Ok you guys, the game is here! Here are the updated rules, as well as the list of players:

Rules
1) The set has to be reasonably clean. I know in Freestyle some of the crazier tricks can get slightly sketchy, but try to get it where you don't just fall off the board after landing :P The same goes for matches, although some leeway can be given.

2) This is a Freestyle Game of Skate. A lot of flip tricks can be considered freestyle, but for this game, no ollie or ollie-based tricks are allowed. We have the regular Game of Skate for that.

3) No repeating tricks already in the game. If there's a lot of interest, there will be a Freestyle Game of Skate vII. If that comes around, then tricks can be repeated from previous games. This does not apply to combos (ex: If a HS Rail has already been done, you can still use it in a combo).

4) Tricks can be done stationary or rolling, it's your choice. If someone does a rolling trick, the set (obviously?) has to be rolling.

5) Footwork is not allowed, period. Therefore, neither are manuals. 360 Spins are allowed, but the person matching your trick only needs to spin two times in order to qualify as 'matching' the trick (because there's no way in hell some people can match some numbers). Ex: I set as my trick a four 360 Nose Spins. It only counts as two 360 Nose Spins for matching purposes.

6) Here's how the actual game dymanics work:

---When it's your turn to set, you have two days to set your trick. Exceptions can be granted depending on circumstances.

---I will tell you what time you have to post your set up when I tell you it's your turn to set. Don't just assume and go ahead with it.

---You have five days to match the trick after it has been set. I will announce when the particular time will be after each set.

---All times are going to be in Pacific Standard Time (-8 from GMT) because that's the time that I opperate on.

---When you match or set a trick, post it in the 'Freestyle Game of Skate Tricks' thread. All other discussion of the game (including me telling you who's setting/what the time limits are) will be held in the 'Freestyle Game of Skate Disscussion' thread.

---After you match a trick, just give the camera this sign. I don't care where your thumb is, but just do it. It's to make sure your trick was filmed for the Freestyle Game of skate game.

Sweet, can't wait to get started!

P.S. I made you set the trick, 'cause on a list I saw you wrote your name first. No hard feelings. :D

EDIT: Changed your name on there, Etnieskater. :D

You'll see when I update with my trick. Patience young padawan :P

Lol, it's not that hard. Hopefully it'll give a few of you guys a letter...maybe...probably not :P

It's a really fun trick to do rolling, I was trying them rolling, but for some reason I wasn't sticking them on camera (I landed a textbook one though, immediately after I turned the camera off. Fakie too!)

IM SUCH A RETARD. i cant count, spell my name or read...Daniel Jones could you please delete my post in the tricks thread.

Tony W.
03-15-2006, 10:44 PM
Oh man, I'm after Daniel. That kid might do me in :)

Oh, and are rolling impossibles considered ollie based tricks? Or does it depend how you do it? Because technically, you don't ollie.

Necromortis
03-15-2006, 11:06 PM
Mmm...that's a hard call for me. I can't do impossibles, so to save my ass, part of me wants to say that yes, they are ollie based tricks. But then, I don't really mind getting a letter (I'm going to be out anyway), and I've always wanted an excuse to learn impossibles anyway.

I'll leave this one up to you guys, should impossibles be allowed or no?

~Necro

EDIT: I just wanted to point out that the order of players was chosen COMPLETELY randomly (except for me being first, blame Daniel for that).

Daniel Jones
03-16-2006, 06:33 AM
Impossibles should be fine, as long as you don't ollie into them. Do it the other way, either way I'm screwed. :D

By the way, let's follow the other game of skate, and the prize for winning is all the other competitors give the guy a rep point...sound good?

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 09:19 AM
as im next on the list to post a move when should post it, monday night ?

Necromortis
03-16-2006, 09:56 AM
No, everyone has to either match the trick or take a letter, and then you have two days to set your trick.

~Necro

EDIT: Wow Daniel, that was a really clead flip. Dead Sparrow, that one was close. Generally, you shouldn't have touched the ground, so if you get it better in the next four days, try and re-film it. It's cool if you don't, because you still landed it.

Daniel Jones
03-16-2006, 12:02 PM
^Thanks. I think Dead Sparrow's counts. Especially since he just went out and learned them in a day! Major props.

Necromortis
03-16-2006, 12:24 PM
Yeah, that's what I said, it did count, but if he gets them better, it might be cool if he re-filmed it.

~Necro

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 01:17 PM
ok yea cool,i try and get a better one soon as.

Daniel Jones
03-16-2006, 01:20 PM
^By the way, do you have handstand railstands down? I saw it in that pic comp from you, and that's a trick that could give me problems.

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 01:44 PM
haha yea i can do them, i cant land them normaly, i have to bring them into casper, i cant flip the board back over while im up side down so i bring it down to casper, i have filmed a cleaner monkey flip by the way, i'll post it in the trick thread now, there alot harder then they look..

Necromortis
03-16-2006, 01:55 PM
Yeah, but once you have them they aren't that hard to learn moving. I saw the cleaner one and it took me a a few watches to see if it was a pressure flip or not. I saw the hand though, so good job, it was really clean.

Ok, so two people have posted up their matches, I wonder if anyone else will get it (it's not that hard of a trick, so they probably will).

On the 20th at 8:10 PM PST it'll be your turn to set Dead Sparrow, and you'll have until the 22nd at the same time to get it filmed.

So only four days left...I haven't had so much fun on the internet for a long time :)

~Necro

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 02:08 PM
ok all sounds cool, and yea i noticed it looked like a pressure flip, by the way 8:10 PST is that the time it will be in america ? i live in england so i think thats 6 hours behind are time, so i'll post my trick about 2 AM tuesday ( so it will be around 8:10 PST for you guys) im always up late anyway and i will be getting in on monday really late because im seeing trivium, so it all works out.

Etnieskater
03-16-2006, 02:49 PM
wtf man lol, im trying to learn them..i can barely do railstands and caspers but im gonna get you >=) few questions

1) does it have to flip in the air, or can the board sorta roll over on the ground? :p

2) Dan...Can you do those up or down anything? cuz there sick

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 03:05 PM
yea, they are a difficult move, i can only just about do them, necro and dan can do them very well

Necromortis
03-16-2006, 03:18 PM
Dead Sparrow: I'm at GMT -8, so you can post it up at...I don't know. But dude, don't worry about that until the 20th, and then you have two days to film it. You could film the trick and upload it now, and then I'll PM you when you should post up the thread if you want...or you could just wait until it's your turn to film your trick...

Etnieskater: Ok, you can do them moving if you want, so I guess you could do them up and down stuff...the board moves backwards or forwards though, so it might be a bit odd. And yeah, the board can't really roll across the ground, it kinda has to flip up in the air.

~Necro

Daniel Jones
03-16-2006, 03:21 PM
^If you're not riding parallel to a ledge or curb, you have to use an entirely different method.

I can do them down small things, but it's hard to explain the method. You have to grab the rail, indy side, pull up, so the tail smacks the ground, and then monkey flip. It's an odd one. There's also the indy flip, where you ollie, grab indy, and flip it. I'm much less consistent at that, though.

Can't wait to see what dead sparrow has cooked up!

FaggotLaMaggot
03-16-2006, 03:22 PM

I saw that, do you ahve cicadas? because it sounds as if there are cicadas in the back ground.

Daniel Jones
03-16-2006, 03:25 PM
^Nah, sounded like people speaking in a British accent. :D

Sometimes I wish some guy on here from England would just record him talking for an hour. I appreciate British accents.

Stevie Hunt
03-16-2006, 03:38 PM
necro : yea thanks man, it would be cool if you PM me when to post my trick, just for the first round so i know when to next time (if im still in), thanks.

******lamaggot: haha no i dont have cicadas, just a heavey wind,

i got a little combo plained for my next trick, not giving it away just yet, hehe

Necromortis
03-16-2006, 04:03 PM

I'll PM you once it's your turn to post up you trick.

03-17-2006, 08:04 PM
If I joined the same thing would happen to me. Get uber pwned. But, I didn't join because I know I would be way ou tof my league.:)

Slipknotdude entered? I want to see him skate.

Necromortis
03-17-2006, 08:09 PM
Yeah, I want to know how good he is at freestyle as well.

Man, you're better than me at freestyle, so you wouldn't get UBER pwned.

By the sounds of it, your better then me.

Etnieskater
03-17-2006, 08:30 PM
I might have to take the letter on this...When I crouch down in the indy position and try to jump I get maybe an inch off the ground and sometimes I pull up hard and it hurts my fingers soo bad. then i tried jumping then pulling up and i still cant get high enough for a whole deck to flip. Ive also only landed it like 3 tiems by it rolling on the ground and me jumping way back lol. i think i just have to practice in the indy position jumping up and down :p

skaterbob
03-17-2006, 08:38 PM
etnies skater, try putting your weight on the back hs edge of the board, applying this weight/pressure will make it flip easier..., although, i probably shouldnt interupt im not even in this game

FaggotLaMaggot
03-17-2006, 08:44 PM
^Feel free, I'm not in this game. Your helpin gsomeone out, so what is the problem with that?

Necromortis
03-17-2006, 09:01 PM
Yeah man, here's a tip. Hang your heels off the edge a slight bit. They're easier to learn like that.

~Necro

Daniel Jones
03-17-2006, 09:07 PM
Yeah, I think I might incorporate a few more monkey flip things later on in the game, to shake some people off. The monkey flip is one of very few tricks I really feel I've mastered. I may do a heelflip monkey flip to rail, or a monkey flip body varial or something. I dunno, we'll see.

Etnieskater

WhAHHH? I better learn them, or your just making it hard for the...little guy :(

-so i dont need to be able to indy grab jump as high as the flip should be?

Daniel Jones
03-17-2006, 09:13 PM
^Indy grab? Nah, I haven't done an indy in over a year, probably. Just put your heels off the edge, jump high, then flip hard. It's all about the timing!!

Etnieskater
03-17-2006, 09:26 PM

i Have to grab it in an indy position....lol..dont i? yea indy position and flip it which at the moment is insanly hard

Daniel Jones
03-17-2006, 09:39 PM
^Right, grab it with your strongest hand, now jump, then flip. It has to be that order. That's the hard part...timing.

Necromortis
03-17-2006, 09:40 PM
It really takes timing to learn Monkey Flips. It really kills your fingers if you try and flip to early. Try jumping backwards a bit, but mainly up, and flip right afterwards. I find it's easier to flip if you add a slight bit of backwards motion to your jump.

Ugh, Daniel, and I just got my Monkey Flips back on my freestyle board which came today (it took me a few tries, but they are smooth like butter now :)). I love the deck, it's awesome. Now I have to learn Heelflip Monkey Flips? I can't do those worth beans. Why don't you do a regular 3/4 monkey flip to T/S Rail? I can do those...

~Necro

Daniel Jones
03-17-2006, 09:56 PM
^Heh, if I do them at all. If I do try them, it'll be later on in the game. Don't worry about it for right now, just work on everything. :D

indys are with your back hand...im goofy and my left sucks, that mean i can use my right?

I tried a heelflip one by grabbing it melon and I was closer than an indy kickflip one.

-hey can I grab it any place but still do a kickflip? wate nvm that would be like a fingerflip, THANKS FOR TIPS!!

I think combos look cooler and usually combos consist of stuff that ive already worked on, just as long as someone doesnt do a monkey flip combo :p

Necromortis
03-18-2006, 07:06 PM
Hehe, I was going to set a monkey flip combo to rail/some railwork to casper out, but I decided against being mean on the first set. So I just set a Monkey Flip.

Dead Sparrow: Set the combo, it would really help me because I really need to work on my flows/combos.

DUDES!!! lol im at my moms but right before I left, my bro filmed me doing 2 monkey flips, i took your suggestions on feet farther back and using stronger hand (thanks Necro, Dan, and Skaterbob) My dad is going to email them to my email and hopefully tonight/tommorow i will have it here, i filmed too because one you couldnt see the hand. Also if there too sketchy for the game then ill take the letter...or if you hate me ill take it anyways :icon_snif

Necromortis
03-19-2006, 01:01 AM
Tony, you have to match the Monkey Flip set, and then after a while (Dead Sparrow and then Daniel I think, could be wrong) it'll be your turn to set. I'll post up here when it's your turn to set, but I can also PM you if you want.

Etnieskater, that's sweet man, I want to see that video.

Looks like this is going to be a cool game to watch, because there is going to be a lot of diversity. Also, when I watched dead sparrow's first clip of his first monkey flip I laughed because the sign he mad looked like spiderman when he goes to shoot web at people lol.

~Necro
I thought it had to be in the indy position because i saw yours. but when is it a fingerflip? just at the nose/tail?

Necromortis
03-19-2006, 10:26 PM
Yeah, it's a monkey flip if it's on the rail, and a fingerflip if it's on the nose or tail.

It doesn't have to be with your back hand, like I said, it can be with either or both hands.

Ok, if you have the video on your harddrive, just upload it onto YouTube or ZippyVideos or something. It's rather easy, you just need to create an account.

I'll post when times up, it's tonight (it's 10:50 AM right now), but I'll still post, then I'll PM Dead Sparrow and tell him that it's his turn to set (I'll also post that up here).

Ah, my monkey flip is a bit sketchy.

Necromortis
03-20-2006, 07:39 PM
Yeah, I looked at it and I have some trouble making out whether or not your foot touched the ground after you jumped. After many views, I figured that it didn't, so your match is fine.

That means only two people will be getting letters from my set *gasps* Ack, I know I'm not going to be able to set again, I'll be out long before then, so I'd hoped to give more people letters :P.

There's two and a half hours left to match the trick!

A casper disaster is basically roll fakie, get into a 180 railstand pivot, and come out riding regular, right? Alright, I'll have to see if I've lost that trick, it's been awhile since I've done them really.

Why is it called "casper disaster" when there is no casper position in it?

Necromortis

Because they guy who invented it was Buddy 'Casper' Somebody :) He invented the Casper as well.

why is it a disaster? lol it looks like a fakie railstand pivot. or fakie 180 rail stand. I get the casper but not the disaster

Bobby 'casper' Boyden. He was called casper because he was so pale, or so I heard.

Hey, can I do pogo combos? Or does it have to be a single trick?

^Right. Here it is. At the end of this one I say, "I can't believe it's taken me this long to land this trick." Because this one took me a terribly long time to get back for some reason. I gotta stop talking to myself...

errr this is like the 4th time i feel retarded in this thread, ive been trying it ever since dead sparrow set it..but I was doing it TOESIDE!!! :icon_mad: now I will go learn it heelside :icon_redf

I have a question...danmit
when i do the toeside casper disaster thing, do I have to do it as fast as dead sparrow and Dan? its like a switch rail and then im on top of them and then I spin it around and land...i cant seem to be that fast, I have it on video and will post it up later so you can laugh :)

Necromortis
03-21-2006, 11:59 PM
Dude, Etnieskater, that wasn't a Casper Disaster, but it was very close.

You held the Railstand to long, so it basically became a HS Railstand Spin out. You have to keep on moving, and spin right when you get into rail.

You don't even really get into rail, one foot is on the wheel and the other is pushing the board around/over.

Check out www.bobstricktips.com for a very nice trick tip on this trick.

you ride fakie, and put pressure on the HS edge of the board with your back foot instead of your front.

Deadsparrow, just a question about this trick. Dos it have to be done like, a railstand pivot or does it like flip into casper and spin or what?

It doesn't have anything to do with the trick called the 'Casper,' it has to be done in Rail.

Hmm...I'm having major amounts of trouble with this thing. Ok, here's what my problem is:

Normally, I put pressure on the HS edge of the board with my right foot and scoop with my left (I'm regular). Now, with this trick, you have to switch feet, and so I have to put pressure on the board with the left and scoop with the right.

I have insane amounts of trouble doing that, it's not even funny. It either overflip it (casper anybody?) or I don't flip it at all. Any tips on overcoming this? Is it all just practice, or is there a special stance or what?

Second, even when I'm popping regularly, I have trouble getting into rail when moving, I figure this is all just practice, but I'm wondering if you guys have any tips for this trick?

My problem too is with the railstand, its not in my reg stance so I over flip it and as you saw when I do it i have to get balance

Stevie Hunt
03-23-2006, 03:32 AM
hey necro, when u put pressure on the board start to turn your shoulders 180 before the railstand gets up and with the foot that scoopes keep that rested on the griptape to help the 180, dont really think of it a railstand, more of a vertical pivot maybe.
hope that helpped

Necromortis
03-23-2006, 09:49 AM
Ok, I'll try it some more when I get home today. I found out that if I had my feet kinda parallel and I had my shoulders facing directly across my board (so I'd be literally riding backwards) that it is a bit easier to get the railstand. Anyhow, I'll try it more when I get home.

Thanks,

It's going ok. I'm actually having a blast now that I've switched to freestyle. I'm set on getting No-Handed 50-50s, but I'm having trouble balancing in that position.

I've discovered that I really like being upside-down, and I cleaned up my HS Rail to Gymnast Plants immensely, and I'm working on a stationary Handstand (on the tape) Flip. I hurt my left wrist a bit, but I was also doing Rail Handstands, and I was trying to get a Rail Handstand Flip as well.

The Casper Disaster isn't going to well, but I haven't really worked on it, because I haven't had that much time to skate. Oh well, I should be able to get it before the 26th.

I'm basically cleaning up all my tricks, and trying to get a few new ones (like Varial Rail Flips, which I got today...yay). I really need to improve my consistency, my style, and my flow.

So yeah, I'm also working on footwork.

Hopefully I'll be able to land Daniel's set, although I doubt I'll be able to. Ah well, it's good for me to try and learn some of these tricks (although my left shin is taking a beating from those failed Casper Disasters).

hey necro, i saw in the trick thread you wanted some tips,

what helpped me to learn this was dont focus to much on the board, focus on spining your shoulders 360, and dont do it to to fast ether. also as you begin the spin turn your shoulders and spot the place were the 360 stops and just focus ont hat spot as you spin, dont look at the board ether and dont worry to much about falling of, the worse that may happen is getting hit in the shin but it probly wont be that bad anyway, hope that helpped man.

Posted up my match in the Tricks Thread. I'm sorry for the sketchy Casper, but I promise my foot doesn't touch the ground. That was try number 30 (I made two spins just fine in the garage, and then I got into this kinda funk where I didn't get one full spin out of 27 tries - it was my foot positioning). So then I adjusted my foot and got it the first try afterwards (I was doing fine in my room and earlier today as well), and I was really tired of that damn match ;)

Let's see...slipknotdude190 hasn't posted at all in this thread...I think he forgot. Tell you what, I'll let you join. Here's the catch though - you have to be willing to start the game with an S. I know it's kinda harsh, but that's the price you pay for coming late.

Also, get every single trick that's been set (Monkey Flip, Casper Disaster, and a HS 360 Railspin to Casper) to me in two days (so by Mon. April 3nd, 4:00 PM PST) in order not to get a letter from those tricks as well (considering they're past their deadlines).

Again, I know it seems kind of harsh, but I am making an exception to the rules here. This is only because slipknotdude190 is just not replying, so we have an open spot.

So get those tricks filmed to me by Monday 4:00 PM my time!

I'll update my signature now.

~Necro

EDIT: Yeah, this is the first Freestyle Game of Skate. Once this one's over we'll be staring a new one, but you can jump in on this one. Oh, I'm also putting you after lazerflip, because I don't think it's all that fair to him to put you in front of him.

Yes, but it must be done moderatly fast and from tailstop. It can't be like you go into rail, wait a second, then flip out. I'd like it to be one fluid motion if that's alright.

Necromortis
04-03-2006, 12:07 AM
Yeah, that's cool. But be slightly lenient, considering some people have never done Freestyle in their lives before.

Ya...this should be an interesting one. I played around with the idea of doing that trick awhile ago back to rail (Like Mullen does in Opinion) but never got close. Im looking forward to tryin this so future variations.

Good set.

Necromortis
04-03-2006, 12:18 AM
Yeah, I've fluked them back to rail, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that on purpose.

Tony, does the board spin directly under you, or more to the side?

~Necro

Tony W.
04-03-2006, 12:55 AM
I'll be lenient, I just don't want people to wait forever in rail in a trick that loses its essence if not done quickly, you know? Plus, it's really not that hard to do fast once you get it.

It moves almost directly under me. It goes a little to the back. The trick is to flick it once you feel the rail start to come into place. It's not really a flip, it's more like a twist of the board with your foot.

BRETTNOVAKcom
04-03-2006, 01:06 AM
Im all for the idea of not counting unless its relatively fast - I mean if you watch it that really is the point of the trick. It would be a way different thing if you said - shuv out of rail.

arto-geoff
04-03-2006, 02:28 AM
Does it matter how you get into the railstand? Can you like, push the board into a one foot railstand if you know what I mean or does it have to be from tailstop.

Sarge
04-03-2006, 08:36 AM
the whole point of that trick is to do it in one "fluid motion" as Tony put it. Any yes, you have to do it from tailstop like that.

This one will be good for you guys. Once you get it slow, you can get it up to a reasonable speed.

This is a quick piece of footwork, cant halfass it

I'll get it done...it's hard for me because it's raining so I'm confined to a 4'x4' room with CARPET in my basement...and I'm extremely claustrophobic.

To my advantage though, I forgot 95% of freestylers let their foot stand around on a tailstop to rail. :D

04-03-2006, 09:46 AM

It looked like your other foot touched the board when you went into rail Daniel, but after watching it a few times over, I'll accept it :)

It's ok to have your foot on the ground when getting into rail from tailstop, but it's not considered good to have it their for longer than half a second.

I email Keith now and then :)

I intended to try this trick after school, but I didn't get a chance. I hope I'll be able to after dinner.

A warning: My sister just caught a 'highly contageous' virus. I really can't afford a virus right now, so I'm being hyper-hygenic and I won't go near her with a twenty foot long pole, but in the even I do catch it, I'll be confined to my bed for awhile, and I'll be unable to skate, so I'll have to pass on this set (or maybe the next one, depends on when (if hopefully) I catch it).

He told me that he misses the healthy attitude between skaters that was apparent in the 80's. He says that kids nowadays are more critical of everything and there's not as much mutual respect among skaters nowadays. I doubt he's against beginners in freestyle; just big egos from beginners.

I think he didn't really like my critism of that movie...I'm just used to offering up constructive critism to people, and the guy who posted the video asked for critiques. It doesn't mean I don't respect him, because I said a lot of good things about the video, just pointed out some things that he could of worked on...

...Sigh, it's probably some big misunderstanding. I wasn't alive in the 80's, but I want the freestyle attitude from back then back.

Hmm, your speed is good, but it wasn't really a full 360.

Necromortis
04-04-2006, 11:45 PM
A full 360? I thought it was a 180 degree shove-it kind a thing (so the board really ends up doing a 270, if count starting from tailstop).

I know it was slightly underrotated, but so was Dead Sparrows's match, so I figured I would post it up. Plus, I tried to get it as smooth as possible ;)

Does it count?

By the way Tony, where in California do you live?
