View Full Version : Remember why you're here
“Remember why you’re here.”
Read the thread title and listen to it.
Over the past few weeks I’ve seen our little community get a little edgy with each other, and its starting to get more annoying then the continual Spam we seem to be deleting too.
We at skaterscafé are extremely lucky to have a set of dedicated members who don’t feel the need to bite each other’s heads of at posts they don’t like, the café is a place where we all come to enjoy ourselves , look up threads that interest us, talk to friends and catch up on the newest skate gossip, and real world talk alike.
The current influx of new members seems to have sparked the hostility in our current, then chilled members and this change is disgusting, you older guy’s know how to treat people here on the café, you know how we roll so I expect you to keep up to old standards.
You guys who are “newer” additions to café need to read this:
No "Flaming":
You will not post any messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another member or guest. This will include misquoting another member out of context. You may discuss another member's beliefs but there will be no personal attacks on the member himself or herself.
No "Spamming":
A) You will not post any messages anywhere on this site that are primarily for the promotion or advertising of any website, email address, business, MLM, activity, business, store, or other entities that you have an affiliation with (i.e. no self-promotion). This includes any private contact details (including addresses and telephone numbers). You will not cross-post the same message in multiple forums. You will not make useless posts to Spam your post count. You will not post your email anywhere on this site - people can email you via the site by clicking on the email button - this way your email address remains private. You will not mass-PM or mass-email multiple members of this site the same message. You will not beg or solicit reputation points/ donations in posts or PMs. You will be allowed to post website URLs, links or messages in your signature (you may put links in your profile or CF homepage).
B) If your sole purpose of joining this forum is to Spam it then you have two choices, 1) Leave, 2) Go to the http://www.skaterscafe.com/links section and do it there. We have grown tired of spammers and did not build this forum for the free advertising of others. IF you still choose to spam our forum the following things will happen:
1) Your post will be moved ASAP, we have staff from 4 countries so most spam post get deleted ASAP, no one will see it.
2) Your IP address will be banned and tracked, and several hacks will prevent you from visiting the site again.
You guys need to read this until you understand what it means fully.
This is something I’m going tough on from now on. Flames, Spam, harassment, idiotic remarks, pointless posts, and so on.
We do not need to see this crap around the forum, let alone do us moderators want to be cleaning it up, I don’t know what’s happened to you guys over the past months but this “flaming” business seems to have skyrocketed and its not just me who’s noticed it, we are getting more and more reports of flame’s and im not having it. Not having it.
The café is prided in being a nice, family supporting , clean, well run website where we can come to chill, not a place where you log in and have to watch your back in case you get harassed by others.
Keep it in mind….remember why you come here.
Thank you,
Creative Head,
Soap.
Tristan 07-31-2006, 10:06 AM Good point bro, I will keep this in mind to the fullest.
Necromortis 07-31-2006, 10:08 AM Word. I'm also going to be cracking down on spam and flaming. We've been pretty lax with giving out warnings, and I'm getting rather tired of it. Sometimes I delete over fifty (you read right, 50) spam/flame/advertising posts a day, and it's just ridiculous.
We pride ourselves in having a great community here. Maybe it's because it's summer and we have tons of new guys joining, and that's making the older guys jumpy. I don't care what it is though - it's not fair to the mods to have to DELETE the crap, it's not fair to the new guys to GET the crap, and it's not fair to the old guys to have to SEE the crap.
Let's get it together guys!

Exactly my point Christian.
King's_Apostle 07-31-2006, 10:19 AM There has been a lot of flaming om this forum. I think that we should all just be chill with each other. Especially to the new members, because those of you who have been here long enough knows that a new members need to welcomed so the Cafe will grow.
Mr. Weenabago 07-31-2006, 11:41 AM yea.... even though luckily I haven't been at the point of any flaming.... but yea I'm working hard not to go ****in beserk wit the new people.
Pathtek4 07-31-2006, 11:59 AM Soap and Necro said it all above! *Stands in ovation*
Truly, everyone can let their guards down here (the specific reason why I enjoy skaterscafe) and I will continue to enjoy it! (exit the existance of needless "flaming/spamming" posting)
Higher-Class 07-31-2006, 12:02 PM I'll be cracking down on spam and flaming, also.
Thank you soap for finally making a thread like this! Its starting to get out of hand.
Daniel Jones 07-31-2006, 01:16 PM Here's a tip for mods, of what I do. If I notice that one guy is particularly a problem, I go into his User CP, see all his posts, and just delete all the bad ones from there. That way you don't have to go find all of them.
Then ban him.
Dog Town 07-31-2006, 01:20 PM Some people don't understand all the work that is involved in a modding this site. I get PM's all the time (even though I keep asking form them not to) asking if they can be a mod...after people become mods I bet they are thing what the hell was I thinking...lol.
PS: I am making a new usergroup that is a "restricted" group, the mods are going to give -rep for these flaming post, and then a member that flames with go to the restricted group and not be able to use many features of the site.

Dang, that's harsh DJ. Is that really neccessary? To ban someone just because of a few bad posts? But if that's really what you do then be my guest.

No way, I don't mean just someone who's come in after a bad day and flamed a few times, I mean like problem people that are habitual spammers/flamers. A good example would be the recent spam attack here at the cafe. With my method, you can wipe it all out in just a few clicks.
feedmegrease 07-31-2006, 07:33 PM OK man, I will definaltely keep that in mind. I admit to flaming a while back, but I stopped long ago. Good point man!
Retired_Skater 08-02-2006, 08:16 PM I don't have a problem with this but I'll be sure to report any bad posts to the moderators. ;)
Embracer 08-07-2006, 08:29 PM Honestly, I hate the pampering they do on forums. Liek OMG dur is liek a mean sentence. Seriously, what the ****? If anything, they should grow up and accept the fact that someone in a diffrent part of the world got mad at them and threw words at them.

Um, in case you haven't noticed...This site is a fully "family" oriented forum! Certain rules are in place to protect the sanctuary that is skaterscafe! Understandibly, people do get upset and toss out a few words here and there, but a complete onslaught of other members just won't be tolerated! This is a shiny happy place, SO SMILE :)!

The fact that you went out of your way to come back here shows there's something here that keeps you.
Get your "war on dogtown" out of here. Go make a geocities site or something. Just please disappear before we have to make you disappear.
panda_enjoi_kid 08-09-2006, 11:29 AM I will also be helping you guys by reporting spam post and flaming.

Retired_Skater 08-12-2006, 01:21 PM i didnt know you could repost posts while your banned?
Shh it's a secret, he's not really banned. :) lol.
Guess we need some law and order, just please don't go too extreme and ban people if they just swear lol!!!
Fliptastic 09-06-2006, 12:40 PM Its a weird coincidence that I'm listening to Judas Priest - Breaking The Law while I have been reading this section lol. But cool!
Yeah I feel for the mods. I like a lot of the mods especially Necro, cause he's been real nice to me, helping me out with stuff about freestyle through PM.
I like all the mods though. I hope to one day become a mod, but I don't think I'm good enough yet lol. I've only got like 43 rep and 250 posts lmao! But to take some of the stress of mods, i'll try reporting some spam and bad posts wherever I find it.
Lmao this site means loads to me and has helped me loads, and I hate spam and flaming here! I try my best to never flame, and see things from all points of view.
Keep it up mods, admins and the creative team. You make the cafe THE CAFE! Thank you to all of you all! Keep on going people, this site is on it's way up, and I hope to watch it grow.
Long Live The Cafe!

Futt Buck 12-12-2006, 06:16 PM So, in a way were not aloud to post our own opinions. If we think that a band is bad or somthing like that, we have to keep it to our self because some prepubesent little girl will get her pantys in a bunch. Last time I checked a fourm was a place that you could freely express your opinions, and if you can't handle alittle criticism then puberty will never come to you.

What bull****. I got negged over telling a dude who was complaining about needing his braces on for 2 years to get over it, and it could be worse, like having them on for 7 years like me. Some members that negged me didn't even have anything to do with the conversation I was having with the braces dude.
