"This month (April) I was thrilled with the opportunity do the MOTM for a solid skater, and a fantastic member of the cafe that we all know and love, arto-geoff a.k.a. Pat or Paddy! This guy i've know for almost a year now, and he has an funny sense of humor, and can make anyone laugh at any moment. Being Member of the Month is well deserved by Pat for all his work he's done for the site, and just being a great friend to us all...Congrats again Pat, our April 2007 Member of the Month! This is a great interview, I really enjoyed it...so here it is, your questions, his answers, lets get this on" :):
1) Being part of the Cafe, how as your perception of skateboarding changed by being a member here and seeing so many skaters from so many countries?
I think it's pretty interesting to see that there are so many skateboarders around the world. When I started, I always knew that there was such a huge scene going on in the USA, but when I joined here, it just opens my eyes to see the amount of encouragement you guys seem to get from your local government. It looks like you could find about 50 parks per state, where as we don't have 1 in the country. I guess this pushes skaters from Belfast to take to the streets, which is a good thing because it keeps the creativity in skateboarding alive. Skateboarding is so big across the world and I hope one day Belfast realises that.
2) Who are your top 5 favorite members on the cafe?
Man you're all so sound, well most of you. Anyone who is in my shoutouts i guess, and if I forget you i apologise
3) What's the skate scene in Ireland like?
Well, here in Belfast, it's so good. You have maybe 200 skaters hitting up different spots in the city centre so you're never really skating on your own, unless its a Sunday. But then you have the smaller quieter places, such as Carrick and Enniskillen, which are equally as good for skateboarding, but don't contain as much skaters. I have some good friends in Carrick though, and that place definitly holds some good skaters. Down the south of Ireland, skateboarding is very big in places such as Dublin. And it holds some very good talent.

4) What deck size/brand do you ride and why?
Right now, I'm riding my second foundation, its a Romero pro model that I picked up cheapish because he's on Baker now, Its 7.5, and when I first started skating it, it felt a little small, but now I'm used to it so it's all good. Foundation boards just feel really comfortable, I really recommend buying them, they have a nice pop and just feel so right. I have a 7.75 Consolidated though which I will grip soon as this Foundation is falling apart! I've had it like 3 and a half months, and it has served me well. Just been skating it really hard.
5) Do you like idolize Arto Saari and Geoff Rowley? Is that why you made it as your username?
Nah man, I was just watch Really Sorry while signing up, and I thought arto-geoff had a nice wee ring to it. Can't say the same for bastien-mark you know? I don't idolise anyone, but arto is the boss like.
6) What made you get into skating?
Hahaha, them wee music videos, the offspring and all back on mtv like 6 years ago had skaters ollieing stuff which made me think it looked sweet. So I picked up a wee Greenday or something hoodie and practiced ollieing (when I was 10, wow time flies), then I just cruised about ollieing for a few years until I practiced kickflips and stuff, now I love fliptricks, tre flip reverts, nightmare flips, bs heels ahh theyre so fun like. Them wee tony hawk games got me into it aswell, you'd see all the pros videos, and theyd be livin the life like, so I thought it looked fun. A couple of weeks ago I realised skateboarding was one of the only things I'm remotly good at, so I'll be hoping to make a career out of it, don't want a normal job.
7) What motivates you to skate? Why do you do it?
When I'm skating steps, usually I'll listen to some music I like (Modest Mouse, Nancy Sinatra(Ohh yes), Iggy Pop) and itll just make me try some big stuff. Also if I'm thinking of trying something and my friend tries it, that hypes me up, cause it makes you think that if he can pop it I can, and that feels good when your just trying something big and new with a friend. Skate videos also motivate me alot, as it gives me ideas for tricks and amps me up before I go out before skating. I like watching big hammers and handrails, and all that mawwwd hesh skateboarding, because it just hypes me up cause they're all goin nuts! haha
8) What's an average day like in the life of the Cafe's favorite brother in belfast.
Well, I'll just describe my saturday because that's the most eventful. Well, I wake up about 10 or something, and go get a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Put on the internet/skaterscafe and flick on a wee skate video. Then I'll lift some money, my camera and a lens and meet all my mates down the city centre. Then we just have alot of good craic skateboarding and just generally having a laugh. About 8pm ish we get the bus back up to this school called Park Lodge, near my friends house, and we skate that for a while. It's pretty good, banks and sets. Then we head back to our area a 4 min walk away, and skate flatground and just mess about. After that about 10 we'll see whats goin on, maybe go to a party, or just buy a carryout and a have a few drinks and mess about. Then either crash in me mates house or go back to mine, stick the cam on charge and collapse on the sofa, haha its great.

9) Skateboarding or Girls?
Any girl who makes you choose isn't worth it.
10) What's the worst skating related injury you have ever suffered?
Probably when I rolled my ankle off this big ledge, I think it's on youtube. I was trying to just frontside it, and back foot came off, and because i was rollin away switch the tail just murdered it. It wasn't too sore, but it was just so bad cause it put me out of skating for like 2 weeks. I credit carded myself trying late heels and that was horrible lol, hate them.
11) What do you think is the most amazing thing you have ever done on your skateboard?
Not sure, maybe when I flipped the hilton 7 step, that felt good cause I got it 3rd try and hadnt tried something that big before. Either that or this big long nose manual round this bs ledge we filmed for our video (Out Of Sync - July 07), it took so long to land but it was so worth it.
12) What do you like best about the cafe?
The friendly atmosphere and Dr_Feelgoods posts.
13) Who do you look up to or who is your idle and why?
Man, I don't have an idle, i wanna be someones idle haha.
14) If you could skate anywhere in the world, where would it be.
I'd like to hit up MACBA, which im doing in August, which will be the cats pyjamas. I would like to skate southbank some day, it looks so good.
RizFpLy7Bzk
15) If you could have a session with anyone(s) on the Cafe who would it be?
I'd like to have a wee skate with Newbed like, that'd be sweet, learn some funky casper flip variations. Skate Leeds with soap thatd be so good like. Rustynail would make a good session, he has such hardflips. Dr_Feelgood, but I wouldnt get nothin landed cause hed just have me on the ground laughin half the time. Really just anyone whos up for a skate like you know?
16) If you were to move to a different place when your older, where would that be and why?
I want to move to Cali, I have Belfast it's the worst.
17) What do you like about yourself best? Why?
The best thing I like about myself is that I don't care about my image like so many others do, which I think is just dumb, you were given with a body, be happy with it, no ones perfect.
18) How do you feel to finally win Motm? I mean, you should've won this long ago
Alright like, there's other people who should've won this instead in my opinion, but I'm still stoked so many people nominated for me and voted for me, I feel like I have to make a decent interview so sorry if it aint good lol
19) What kind of music do you prefer?
I like a little bit of anything. You can't say 1 genre is bad like, because so many genres are so variable. I really like Modest Mouse, they're good. But I listen Children Of Bodom, Kimya Dawson, The Ramones, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. My music taste is pretty variable.
20) If you could skate with any pro skater you wanted to, who would that be?
Jaane Saario that guy is a beast, youtube his name.
Any shout-outs?
