BuckWyld 11-16-2007, 11:54 AM did you get the big one or the little one? what color? I have been wanting one of the big green ones for a while now, you will have to post a review once you have spent some time on it. slothdog 11-16-2007, 12:16 PM full size pirate, green deck with white graphic. its pretty sweet, its got a lot of concave and its super wide, 10" and the nose and tail and nice and wide and have huge concave, it looks like it will be a fun board to power around the bowls on. maybe even good for some no comply pop shovits on the way to the bowl. im trying to get my stuff together to head down to DLX and get some grip tape put on it. plus i got the pool king custom puke green tracker six trax for it so it looks extra pimpin :) Derrick14 11-16-2007, 12:48 PM nice man, i wish i got a new deck :( lol twitchy_foot082 11-16-2007, 01:39 PM oh that sounds nice. have fun on it and go shred a backyard pool. BuckWyld 11-16-2007, 03:37 PM did you ever try the no comply on the transition? i saw someone doing no comply 180s last night at the skate park. It actually kinda looked easier than on flat ground,. slothdog 11-16-2007, 04:09 PM did you ever try the no comply on the transition? i saw someone doing no comply 180s last night at the skate park. It actually kinda looked easier than on flat ground,. yeah i ate it really bad and decided i wasnt good enough yet to be doing things like that :) oh and heres some pics! Swan 11-16-2007, 04:15 PM Nice deck. It looks really sweet. slothdog 11-16-2007, 04:19 PM its a sweet deck. its 34.5" long by 10.25" wide. its just slightly shorter and slightly wider than the gravity p36 i ride as my main board. trucks are way loose and i dont have the right tools to tighten them. help please! => http://www.skaterscafe.com/showthread.php?t=51929 Grollie 11-16-2007, 05:53 PM Shweet!! ^_* kr3wdude59 11-16-2007, 09:36 PM sweet dude, i just bought a new chocolate dude ;) slothdog 11-17-2007, 12:37 PM here is an inital review after spending about an hour last night rolling around in front of the house and about an hour at the skate park this morning.. first off.. the deck is really light, even complete with trucks and wheels its suprisingly light weight. however... the width may be too wide. i find its hard to lean turn on it. i dont have my ideal bushing setup on it yet (red khiros over yellow khiros) so that might have something to do with it. at the park.. in the bowl i found it kind of hard to skate because of the width and the problem with it not turning that great. its got good pop, its really really easy to ollie and its even easier to do my favorite no comply pop shove-its. it was easy to ollie up and down the banks and ramps at the skate park and it was really easy to drop in with it and i did a 50-50 in the small bowl and it was really easy as well. its really easy to to kick turns on the transition with, its really snappy and responsive. over all, so far so good.. but i think with a few adjustments it might work better. i think i need to get some 1/8" risers and some slightly smaller wheels and i need the other khiro bushings and then i think it will be a pretty kick ass setup for the bowl. Irideplanbs 11-17-2007, 03:52 PM souns good dude T5Video 11-17-2007, 06:39 PM It may be a matter of getting use to the widness part of it all. I know if I ride only my popstuick deck and don't ride my old school board for a while. It takes me a little bit to get use to the old school board. Looks like a fun board. You should be proud. Jarlaxle 11-18-2007, 10:20 PM Pretty ironic but I just decided this weekend to get back into skating and after spending several hours online scouring for the right stick, I had decided on that exact same setup (deck and trucks). I'm thinking of going w/ 1/2" riser (or maybe one of those slanted ones) and Powell Bowl Bombers (60mm 95a) for a little forgiveness and slightly more mellow setup. I haven't skated in 10 years and will primarily be riding in a pool so I thought this would be a pretty good setup for getting back in to the groove while giving me some room for error. I'm likely just going to carve/grind for the most part but could slip in the odd smaller air and/or lip trick if its set up right. One other thing, I'm a big guy (6'4"/225lbs) so this thing should feel about right. My 2nd choice was the Dogtown Reddog Pool which is about 1" narrower and shorter. Any chance you've ridden that one and could compare/contrast? FWIW my last deck was a fairly robust Santa Cruz circa 1993/4. Unfortunately, even though I registered, I can't see your pics for some reason so I'm dying! Any chance you could get them to me in a PM? Thanks and glad to have found this forum. slothdog 11-19-2007, 10:30 AM the 1/2" risers are kind of big. i tried some on it and i was really high. im going to put 2 x 1/8" risers to make a 1/4" total. also im going to get smaller wheels 58mm insted of 60mm. BuckWyld 11-19-2007, 10:38 AM Jarlaxle - go with the PF Bombers unless you plan to be mostly skating on masonite. although I would just choose the bones SPFs, in a smaller size, I think you will have a hard time avoiding bite with 64mm wheels. Also since you are on the heavier side get some of the hard bones bushings replace the stock ones that your trucks will come with. Jarlaxle 11-19-2007, 12:16 PM I can see the pics now and definitely like the looks of it. It is big, but that's more or less the idea. Of course, after more research I discovered a few more decks that look promising too so I'm not ready to pull the trigger just yet. In terms of wheels, I want this setup to work on regular pavement around the neighborhood too so I think I'm going to stick w/ a little bit softer compound at first. I can always buy a 2nd set for pure park riding if I feel like these are too slow but like I said, for getting back on a board for the first time in 10 years, slower is probably better:) Thanks again and I would love any other deck reviews/recommendations you might have. I'm loooking to stay b/w 9" and 10" wide and around 33"-35" long with an upturned nose and some decent concave. BuckWyld 11-19-2007, 01:58 PM check out the Purple Skunk (www.purpleskunk.com) RVB shop deck (http://www.purpleskunk.com/product_p/ps-rvbcompa.htm) , I have one and it is great, they were willing to change up the completes to have exactly what you want, there is a ~10% discount code floating around the interweb and free shipping. Jarlaxle 11-21-2007, 07:17 AM So I pulled the trigger on this same setup yesterday and can't wait to get back to riding. Decided to go with Skaterbuilt Pool Side Formula wheels but will probably have a couple of different sets that I switch out based upon where I'm riding. slothdog 12-01-2007, 10:31 PM update.. so its been a few weeks and ive skated it at several different skate parks and i got my bushings dialed. i ended up going with 1/4" of riser and smaller 52mm bones street tech wheels and of course ceramic bones bearings. it freaking screams around the bowls. its so big and fat that it just hugs the curves of the bowl, its a blast to ride. i feel totally comfortable on it im really happy with it. verdict: pool king pirate is a must get it if you like big wide old school type boards and want to be the king of the pool. this is the board your gonna want to ride to the throne on. Jarlaxle 12-02-2007, 11:20 AM Slothdog - Right on, thanks for the update. Still waiting on mine to arrive, should be here tomorrow. What's funny is, after I ordered it direct from Pool King, I found a great shop here in ATL that focuses on the old school and they actually have it in stock. I compared it to at least 15-20 old school shapes and really is a step bigger than everything (that's not a cruiser). Its a tremendously confidence inspiring size, kind of like an oversized driver in golf. It does seem to have more flex than I remember boards having but I'm going to put some rails on it so that might stiffen it up a bit. I'm really excited because I feel like its the perfect board from a confidence/re-learning to skate standpoint. I plan to switch out wheels alot and I'm most excited about the 62mm/85a Rainskate combo for pure smoothness, speed, confidence, and ability to be aggressive at the coping. That should be a powerful combo while providing lots of room for error. My other wheel sets will be 58mm/97a Rainskates and 60mm Skaterbuilt Pool Side Favors but these two are really for when I get my legs back and start trying to do more advanced tricks. I plan on using Rockin Rons bearings in all 3, including at least one set of his Ballistech Missle bearings which supposedly smoke even Bones ceramics, but for about $30. Eventually, I could see having 2 or even 3 boards. Combined w/ multiple combinations of wheels/bearings and its sort of like having 10 different boards with each setup maximized for a certain style of riding (determined by the desired combo of speed and stability/trick-ability). I hope to post pics once I get my full ride together... I'm still a couple of weeks from hitting the big stuff as I've got some PainCheaters on the way (woo hoo :)) and I don't want to buy something else just for those 2 weeks. oldrampratt 04-16-2008, 05:33 PM just looked at their site, nice boards, maybe this old ratt will get one for christmas, hope santa's good to me... Tim-A 04-19-2008, 02:17 AM its a mean green pool shreddin machine greentime 06-03-2008, 04:44 PM Hey all, I just ordered the wide Pool Pirate board and I'm psyched to get on it. I've been riding long boards for a while and am stoked to have a killer skate park near my house now. I'm looking for some feedback on what wheels, trucks and bearings to get. Looks like there's some variety listed previously... Jarlaxle and Slothdog: wondering about your thoughts..Slothdog, you still liking those smaller 52mm wheels? Jarlaxle, what wheels did you go with? I've been thinking about the new ACE trucks, size 66. And the Bones SPFs at 60 mm, along with Bones Super Swiss bearings...but I'm piecing this together with online research versus experience... I'm looking for something that'll carve well in and around the bowl, won't bite, and won't be too fast as I'm pretty new to skating the bowl (but really excited to get decent at it). I won't be hitting any coping for a while probably, let alone going above it. ..will only use the board in the park. I'm 5'11 and 180lbs. I appreciate any suggestions, Ben slothdog 06-03-2008, 08:48 PM i tried every wheel size, i found that 56mm is the best for all around use in pools, parks and street. its big enough to get good speed with but small enough that you dont need a whole bunch of risers. you can roll over bumps and cracks and not be phased. the pool priate deck is a good deck, i found it was a lot of fun in the pool especially. glidenhi 06-11-2008, 09:28 PM http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=919 http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3967 NST 06-11-2008, 11:57 PM nice, i need a new one too, ive worn the pop out of mine. |
