View Full Version : Ollie 180 Guide
misled user 06-24-2005, 06:25 AM before we start here are the defintions of backside and frontside (people always get confused)
backside=you turn your body towards the toe side of the board, so if your reg your left side, if your goofy your right.
frontside=you turn your body towards the heel side of your board, so if your reg your right side, if your goofy your left.
the ollie 180 guide:
1.) Set yourself up for a regular Ollie by placing your back foot on the inside edge or your tail and the front foot in the middle/center of the board.
2.) Rotate your arms/shoulders the other way to prepare for the spin.
3.) Throw your arms the direction you want to go and Ollie while turning your body in a 180 motion.
5.) Spread your feet apart and get your balance.
6.) Stick it. Now go try it over some big gaps!
Tip: Make sure you use your shoulders and arms to help you rotate.
still having trouble check the vid-> ollie 180 vid (http://www.ramprage.com/videos/skateboard/tricks/fs180.wmv) (note*video is not me)
DVSkater0991 06-24-2005, 08:23 AM yeah thats pretty much how i was taught
why can i do frontsides so easily and over stuff, but no matter how hard i try and cant do backside?? i either loose the board behind me, or i dont ollie and kind of do a sliding pivot type thing. i try putting my front foot more off center to compensate for the board going behind me, but this ends up doing half a flip. this should not be this hard of a trink to learn!!
prskimmer 06-24-2005, 01:03 PM yeah the wind up before the actual 180 is the most important part
junchu 07-11-2005, 12:05 AM backside=you turn your body towards the toe side of the board, so if your reg your left side, if your goofy your right.
frontside=you turn your body towards the heel side of your board, so if your reg your right side, if your goofy your left.
you got the first part of the description right, but if your reg a f/s 180 is to your left, b/s to your right. opposite for goofys.
skateboardlord5 07-12-2005, 08:23 PM cool, ill try it first thing in the morning. 180s look real nice but what if you have trouble skating in the other position?
EnjoiSkating 07-17-2005, 01:53 PM awesome. i tried it and landed my first 180. only fs. ill try bs tomorrow. :woot:
junchu 07-20-2005, 01:29 PM i'm horrible at 180s. i can do fs 180 switch sometimes, thats about it. fakie 180s too. just can't do the regular. :-P
Seikai 07-23-2005, 12:04 AM 180's simple, easiest trick ever, learning pivots EXTREMELY helps
im a newbie skater so yeah...can someone help me with my problems...
-i do the 180 motion but i lose the board in the air
-i only turn 90 degree when i land them
XcaleX 08-08-2005, 07:01 AM when i try my board flips away
yay i finally got the hang of the bs 180 ollie =)
everyone who has trouble doing the 180 ollie try doing both fs and bs to see which one feels better. i used to just do fs 180's because i thought they were easier than bs but i could never land them. so today i tried doing a bs 180 and now i can do them almost every time =).
"element" 11-19-2005, 07:13 PM thanks gonna try it tommorow
Higher-Class 11-24-2005, 05:48 PM Hey uhm. I can f/s and b/s 180, but a lot of times, I land my frontsides really weird. Like the board kind of goes out in front of me. I still land them, but only with my toes on the board. It looks kinda sketchy. Any tips?
Newbed 11-24-2005, 06:47 PM im a newbie skater so yeah...can someone help me with my problems...
-i do the 180 motion but i lose the board in the air
-i only turn 90 degree when i land them Happens to me also, Ive only landed on and it was going off a ledge into the grass -_-
"element" 12-01-2005, 04:38 AM last time i tried to do a 180 i landed and all but fell with the head in the ground(ouch):P
Adiosk8er19 02-14-2006, 11:32 PM I can f/s 180 easily, just real sketchy landing. but i cant b/s 180 at all. the board only turns 90 degrees, any tips?

Shangri La 03-29-2006, 09:59 PM Do you move your legs at all or just let your arms and shoulders do the work and let your legs follow?
Phantom2_chick 04-29-2006, 12:56 PM yea i had trouble with those before thne i realized that u dont rotate ur hips
burkov 04-29-2006, 06:06 PM I learned a little while a go, now I can do them 3 out of 5 times. Thanks for this thread, it really helped me a lot.
SkataBOI 11-02-2006, 05:52 PM try a pop shove it and let your body follow
rikaroo 11-08-2006, 06:57 AM I find i can do them a lot better if i use my hips more, that's how i learnt...
SkataBOI 11-27-2006, 03:43 PM ok with backside 180s.. roll slowly on flatground and then do a bs 90 degree ollie and youll stop... but you cant fall cuz you are moving slowly.
then go for a full 180 moving very slow. once you get thaton lock then go faster and faster and work on height.
OwnageKingX 12-13-2006, 11:42 PM Wow, thanks!
SUPGUY! 01-08-2007, 01:46 AM good thread, can i get any more feedback and yall's techniques of 180s?thanks..
Bender 01-08-2007, 01:54 AM I'm getting back into my 180s. I don't usually commit to em and the result is a one footed landing.
I landed a few decent ones today!

SkatePhotograpr 06-13-2007, 08:46 PM I want to try them - Can they be done stationary or does it have to be rolling?
HighVoltageSk8r 06-13-2007, 08:49 PM They can be done stationary but I highly suggest doing them rolling first.
SkatePhotograpr 06-13-2007, 08:55 PM Right, but my ollies are only like half as high when im rolling.
Maybe I should work on that, first. Haha.
skatermccrank 06-24-2007, 01:36 AM cough easy trick cough haha jp...nice tip

Try2Skate 09-23-2007, 07:35 AM I just can't seem to land my back foot (the one at the back when I pop) on the board, it's always an inch to the side lol
darkfluffy 10-14-2007, 12:26 AM Practice dude, you will get it.
ISkateElement 12-01-2007, 08:18 PM Just landed one yesterday, starting to do kickflips now.
kizza 12-30-2007, 09:45 PM if the board flips out from underneath you its usuually beacause your rotating the board to hard or your leaning forward/backward to much.

largoembargo 04-24-2008, 02:18 PM i've never been able to do these
VagGR 04-24-2008, 02:42 PM thanks nice ..
nilsleven 04-29-2008, 02:45 PM Please help me on my bs 180s.
I do fs quite stably, 4 out of 5, and gaining height. But I'm absolutely unable to do any backsides.
What happens is that I scoop the board too much and it just flies away in the motion direction. I know the obvious suggestions would be "not to scoop" but that hasn't been a helpful advice this far.
Anyone had similar problems? How did you solve those?
ChinMusic 05-13-2008, 01:02 AM YeaI also have the same problem with BS 180s...
I think everyone's problem has to do with commitment.
nilsleven 05-13-2008, 06:03 AM YeaI also have the same problem with BS 180s...
I think everyone's problem has to do with commitment.
I'm about to reach a solution to this. I lean towards riding direction (i.e. towards my back) when jumping. It's a great help.
amirshaw 05-13-2008, 07:24 AM thank you so much for this guide, it helped me alot! thanx =]
rep added man, once again thanx
AthleteSK8 05-21-2008, 12:14 AM I just started landing 180's and here's my tip-
When doing BS 180's don't bend over forward, just crouch. If you do this, you can lean too far forward and fall off the board after the spin.
sk8hawk101 05-31-2008, 06:41 PM If you are having trouble, purchase the book Sk8 Essentials. It has mostly street tricks in it, but a couple of vert. It help!
MysterySk8er3 05-31-2008, 11:04 PM Thanks, I used to be able to do ****ty ones that were real low and then I stopped doing them (don't know why) and now i can't do them anymore. I only manage to get a 90% turn or a little more. I can do it off a curb though.
nissan0skyline 07-28-2008, 07:57 AM i'll attempt these today, My gosh That stair set I'll look nicer.
Jakobb 10-13-2008, 01:36 AM ahh i can't get the spin i done it first try today and i was like "yeahhh" but then i kept trying and couldn't land it again LAME! ;(
VolcomDrmer13 11-14-2008, 11:41 PM thanks helped me with my fs 180's!
