The Big Spin Guide

This is simply a 180 body varial over a 360 shove-it. However, you are turning in the opposite direction to your board.
Stand as if you were going to do a kickflip with your front foot slightly towards the heel side of the board.
Start as if you were doing a backside 180 but, as you pop the tail with your back foot, pull your back foot backwards to perform the 360 shove-it
Turn your 180 backside in the air over your board, which should be 360 shuviting in the oppisite direction.
As you and the board are spinning, try to keep your front foot hovering over the middle of the board. This will prevent the board from flipping and enable you to catch it.
Once you and the board have stopped spinning, its time to catch the board. You should have your feet in the backside landing position with each foot over the truck bolts.
Applying pressure to stop the board spinning, slam the board to the ground and ride away

ok so i'm trying these and i can get the body varial or i can get the spin. every time i spin it right i under rotate my body or land on the nose. Or if i get the body varial the board spins and i end up standing on my upside down board. what am i doing wrong?

A 360 shove it with a body varial the other way is called a Kallestrial.

A 360 shove it with a body varial the same way is called a big spin.

Hey, I can Kallestrial! Still can't Bigspin.......

yea dude that's not a bigspin. bigspins are popshuvits and bs bodyvarial. so the board overall turns 360. the ideal bigspin would be popping the board and spinning it 270, your body 90, then catch the board and spin the rest of the way. too many people do bigspins like a 360 shuvit with no pop and a body varial.

woops sorry, my bad!
A big spin is a 360 shove-it body varial (turning the same way as the board)

thanks for pointing that out guys :)

I can't finish my nollie fs bigspins. I catch them at 270 and and can't pivot the last 90 degrees because I suck at pivoting switch. Any ideas how to catch it in a switch manual?

Daniel Jones
07-14-2005, 04:53 PM
^Yes! Don't catch and pivot, do it the whole way right. Catching something into a pivot is usually not considered good. Junchu said it was ideal, but I don't think so. When you see some one do a 360, do you like it better if they do it 180, then pivot, or just do a whole 360? A whole 360. Just learn nollie 3 shoves, then do the body varial with it.

junchu
07-14-2005, 05:26 PM
well you don't catch and pivot, it's all in the air.

Acetylene

I think catching them in a manual and pivoting the last 90 degrees looks alot smoother than just catching it at the full 360. By the way this is just normal shuvit style. I'm not good enough to do a Nollie 360 Popshuviting bigspin and landing switch.

fun way i think is to do a 180 shuvit and hold a manual and pivot or just do bigspins going really really fast they are cool looking.

WTF?
07-21-2005, 02:36 AM
i can almost do fakie bigspins, i land when the board has only spun 270 and my body 90, sigh, but still, its a cool way of stopping lol

ok, i just wanna say, a big spin is a 180 and a pop shove it, not 360 shove it body varial, ryan smith explains it on the dc site

Etnieskater
09-30-2005, 12:17 PM
i think of it as a 180 then popshovit because i pop the 180 high and let in spin. or yea pros usually do a popshove really high then catch it and spin the rest of the way.

i can fakie bigspin easily but a normal one is hard for me...after landing its cool to do another shove it to get it back to the tail side

yeah, for some tricks, pivoting looks really cool. this is one, but only on flat. don't try to pivot off a stair set, lol.

i found a really good tip for these, really turn your shoulders when you do them, it really helps the rotation.

With bigspins, is it included as a bigspin if you do a shoveit, not a POP shoveit?

Lachlan001, It doesn't matter. If you pop you've got a higher chance of the board flipping. And if you slide it you might not get the rotation perfect because you wont have enough time in the air.. At least that's how I find it..

@ elmo, he eventually ran away from us. Like many other of the "oh' so great gods" have in the past. Fremry, Deaf, Watchdog, Mislead User, Daniel Jones.. Just to name a few..

I did see Daniel on the other day though..

Is it a good idea to learn how to 360 shove it before I try to learn to bigspin,or does it not matter?Which is easier in your guys opinons..

For some odd reason when ever I try these I roll one way and when I finish the trick and land I end up rolling the exact opposite direction. I don't end up rolling away switch/fakie but normal. Can anyone help me fix this?

any tips for back bigspins off of ramps and nollie back bigspins plus switch frontside bigspins on flat?

for nollie bs bigspins, get nollie bs shoves on lock...then practice overturning the shove and turning your body 90 degrees...once you got that try doing that and sliding the rest of the way...the more you do it the easier it is to get the whole spin...once you get close you will see how easy it is..

One other tip, it helps to keep the board close to you if you put your back foot near the outside of the tail, but it sometimes makes it hard to keep the board from flipping if you do that.

How I learned them is turning your torso prior to popping your trick about 90 degrees, so you are looking around your shoulder. If you need to, pivot on your nose to complete the full 360 rotation.

i was just gonna come in here and give the tip of turning prior to the flick >.< i went to landing these 30% of the time to 60% of the time

also slightly turning to your backside may help you get the full 360 shuv

These are so confusing... If i try to 180 in the same way as the board i end up sending the board flying and just cant get it to go right. i can 360 shuv and kallastarial but i cant turn the right way for a bigspin
