I started skating just under a week now, and I have gotten my stationary ollie down now pretty well. I can ollie about a foot usually, but every time i ollie, i move like 20 degrees to the left, i skate regular. I'm just thinking if it doesn't change it's gonna get really annoying when i'm going into a grind and i end up doing a crooked and bailing >.<" I'm probably thinking too far in the future, does this happen to most people? if not what am i doing wrong? I also have some problems with the rolling of my front foot, like when i do it, the grip on my shoe pulls the board away from me, and my back foot lands on the tail and re-pops it

hmm... i havent exactly gotten my ollies down yet but what i think might be the problem is the when ur sliding ur left foot up your not sliding it straight up, maybe your sliding it to the side... idk if thats why but i think that might be a part of the problem

You might be trying to land with your legs a little furthur than expected because you're used to different physical instincts probablyz. I also think you're not swiping up straight, maybe the tip of your shoe tilts the board over to the left when you're swiping. For the grip tape thing, I remember when I was first doing ollies, I wore down the grip tape a tad bit by just skating around alot for a few hours getting the hang of things. Since you said you just started skating under a week, I assume your grip tape is still super grippy. The grip could possibly be too strong, thus, when you slide your foot up to the bolts, it's like grip gets caught up with the shoe and doesn't go where you want it to.

Yeah that's what I meant, well i've ordered a new board now cause this one is cheapo, so i'll see how things go with that

Lol dude you ordered a new board since the one you have is cheap? Brooo why did you bother to buy the cheap one then? Such a sad waste of money =/ sadly.
You could've just stuck with the cheap board to see how it goes, you know, whether you like skating or not, and get used to the grip (wear it out).
EDIT: ..btw haha was it a Walmart board?

nah, i've had this board for about 4 years now, but I only started skating seriously in the past week or so, and since i'm in england no walmarts here so, just some crappy £20 board from jjb sports :)

dont worry about it dude, with time youll start to gain more control over your ollies and it wont do this.

I had this problem when I started learning ollies. Just practice and it usually fixes itself over time. If not, then just follow what the rest of the guys said.

i had the same exact problem, you gotta just say to yourself go straight and just do it, and make sure those feet move in the motion to another direction

Some problems could be you are turning your shoulders a little bit causing the board to trun a little bit when you ollie, you could be leaning forward when you ollie, and your shoulders arent parralel to the board.

You dont need to worry about it!! just try to keep your shoulders more parallel do the board.

(i'm a beginner so i might be wrong! :D)
this happened to me as well apart from that i am goofy! Your angle 20degrees+ is because your front foot is probably angled slighty to the left/right or when you draw the board up you draw it in a angle that makes it the board turn - you have to try and maintain your front foot about perpendicular to the board in which when you pop the board and draw it up, the board does not really turn.
Don't know if that was much help but good luck! (This is the only trick i can do atm LMAO :D)
Merging doublepost
think about your position of your foot and body before you actually ollie - so if you do make a mistake you would find out what you did wrong much more easily than just doing an ollie straight off without thinking.

meh that's just me :D just pratice and patience!

ooo and i would also advise to look up videos such as on youtube - they're really helpful!!
- i tried to do an ollie with my first $30 skateboard without anyone teaching me or any other information, i just tried to figure it out myself over and over again -this took like over 2 years as i kept stopping or giving up :S! ....until i looked up videos LMAO :D and i did it in 3 days!

your front foots suppose to pull the board forward, and into your back foot. just practice, all it takes is time kid, if you keep skating, you're going to get better.

Just make sure you have your feet in the right place and when you moving at first go slow then speed up after time.

the reason you are moving to the left is because (without you even realizing it) you are turning your shoulder slightly to the left. if you keep your shoulders parallel with the board the whole time, you should be straight.

good luck, have fun

oh yeah, practice!!! koston didnt start out doing switch heel mannies his 1st week... (it took him 2 hahaha)
