Learners Game of Skate

Approved by shortys_kid.

We have ten spots for sign ups and this game will start as soon as the current one ends, which will probably happen at about the same time. Once that happens I'll start up the tricks thread and hat-shuffle the set order.

Last time this thing turned into a way advanced game. Let's get some true Learner's in here, so make sure you fit the description. This is for people that don't have kickflips or shoves consistent, it's more about learning the basics so we can go on to the higher levels of SKATE.


Rules:Rules:
1. Players must Rock and Roll kung fu! (have fun :biggrin:)
2. Players can only be signed up to 1 game at a time
3. Players who do not set, will be removed from the game
. A) Baring no serious illness, or another explanation that warrants inactivity
. B) Player MUST let host know immediately of that they will not be able to set
4. At any time, a Skaterscafe staff member can be called in to make a ''FINAL'' ruling on a trick to prevent arguments
. A) Staff member's ruling is not negotiable
5. Once sign up's are complete, no changes to the game are allowed
6. There is minimum requirment of 100 posts to play in this Game's of SKATE.
. A) Members also must have a positive reputation....it doesn't matter if you only have 1, anybody in ''Red'' will not be allowed to play



This is Learner's Game of SKATE. It is for new players that have not played on this site before AND for skaters that are new to the sport. If this is your first game, this does not make it mandatory you play in LGOS, you can play the level you feel that you can play well in (and have fun).
This game is for the beginners that have not established their kickflips consistantly, shove-its, etc...No tricks are to be set that are difficult in any right, its more or less a session of guys learning the rules, and helping to push each other to get better.
It may very well come to a point in this game, that all set tricks have been gone thru, run out of ''easier'' tricks. At this point the game can move onto a ''harder'' difficulty, like the Beginner Game of SKATE, or can be ended early.
This game will count toward a reward, but, in the event the game ends in a draw with 2 or all 10 players, all will be rewarded.
The rules:

0. Games of S.K.A.T.E. are played like a game of ''horse'' in shooting a basketball with a friend. One person sets, and the rest have to match it. If a player fails to match the trick, they will get a letter, UP TO the point where they have ''SKATE''. At that point the member is out, and is removed from the game.
1. Players have 3 days to set
2. Players have 4 days to match
3. Flat ground only, no obstacles or curbs etc.
4. Heel touch and toe touch allowed, but not so much that you can't keep rolling with it.
5. You must be rolling on your trick, doesn't matter how fast/slow, tick tacking in and out of tricks is allowed, but not if it is to allow you to start moving from a still point.
6. No manuals, or reverts
7. Tricks can not be landed in tail stop or nose stall if needed
8. Tricks that can be set in the first round are:
Ollies
180's
Shove-its
Body Varials
Boneless tricks of a fair degree of difficulty and simple No-Comply
...and simple variations thereof.
9. Tricks that may not be set:
Varial Flips
360Flips
Varial Heels
Double kickflips
etc etc, you get the idea
10. The hand-sign will be a peace sign.

Any rules disagreed with can be discussed.

not really... the best flip trick i can do are half cab kickflips. the only flips i can did in the last LGOS are heel and varial kick. i didnt even match the fakie flip, frontside flip, fakie frontside flip, tre flip, or switch flip. i cant do straight kickflips or fakie kicks. i cant do straight flips period. haha.

Alright TRALALAXMAN, here's the deal, I'm letting some real basic Learners in. I think you should host a Mid-Learners game along with DGK and djkells. I'm letting some of these other guys in on the basis that I did some digging and they're more Learner's than you guys. We got Sign Ups done FAST so I don't think you would have any trouble getting it off the ground

When the current standoff ends between Cris and Chrisrokz on the current LGOS. I'm not sure what letters they have left I'm trying to figure it out.

I'd say that falls in the realm of "simple shove-it variation", so go for it. You may want to start things out a little slower but I don't care...if you can go a little more basic 'til 2nd round that may benefit others.

The last game ran away from a Learner's abilities REAL fast and I want us ALL to have fun! I'm not saying what you're suggesting is too hard for 1st round, just throwin' that out there.

Actually, they are freestyle mate. ;)

Boneless's and no-comply's are allowed, as they're not considered freestyle.

best thing to do for me is just jump with the front foot and push-scoop away with my back foot while jumping backwards

just like a regs pop shove it's all in the back foot, watch the board, stomp on it when you see bolts

I gave anton 24 hours and explained to him exactly how to reach 100 posts, but that was 3 days ago, so I guess he has no desire to be in the game any longer.

I_Like_Cookies don't get down man. Frontside shoves are very hard to get, leagues harder than B/S. Just take this as more motivation to skate and get better. Everytime you DON'T land a trick again and again, you're one step closer to LANDING it. It's easy to get frustrated but HAVE FUN!!

Yeah I think you can re-set with a different trick. I remember seeing it done before in the past LGOS.

My match is up. I wasn't satisfied with the tic-tac on the first one, but the second one is much cleaner. Bad lighting but I played with the brightness to hopefully get the message across. Last frames are like double brightness double slow-mo, LOL.

360 boneless, Whoow, here i come "K" i'm gonne try to trick for ever , xD

Tips for the Boneless 360. By the way this is a GREAT learner's trick IMO because it teaches you a lot about shoulder/body movement.

Ride up with moderate speed. Too little speed and you won't have enough momentum to carry you around.

Back foot shoved right in the pocket of the tail, this will "hold" onto your foot as you spin around.

There's no "popping" involved really. Early grab close to the front wheel, and as soon as you put your front foot down be exploding off of it in a spinning motion. Be turning already with your shoulders. Keep pressure on the back foot. When you spin, it will be like you are smashing the board between your front hand and back foot.

As you are coming around watch for the board position. Stomp on it and ride out, commitment is key.

Edit: Watching my match might be useful as the last part is super slo-mo and you can follow the body positions and movements I'm talking about.

It's actually quite the learners trick. I'd be surprised to see someone set this in Beginner GoS, and not have everyone land it.

It's a really good trick to learn, heh.

Because you need to roll away for at least about a foot (~1/3 meter, 30 cm) after the landing. I hope this is translating well enough with the translation program...?

If you end up stopping when you land a trick, just push with your foot real quick to keep riding...that simple.

You can get another 24 hours to rematch. Just a little more roll-away and you're golden!

Noobskater you don't need to wait for this to Set, proceed as usual.

I think FS is easier because you are "pushing the board in front of you". With BS the board is behind you the whole time- uncomfortable to me.

Once you get the body mechanics down, 180's are a very satisfying and fun trick. I'm trying to get my FS on lock enough to go down stair sets with it. Almost there...

Use the same principle as a kick-turn, but with pop. Wind up a little in the opposite direction, but don't pop until you've unwound and are back facing normal. Momentum will keep you going through. (clear as mud?? LOL).

A big key I think is looking over the shoulder while you turn. Looking over your shoulder during the spin should keep your head, and thus shoulders and hips turning in the direction you are looking.

The hardest part is landing switch and not slipping out. Just experiment with foot position prior to the execution of the trick, and see what makes you most stable when landing in switch. It's easier if you get real low before the pop, because your legs will stay flexed and you'll land a little more crouched and stable. Flaring your arms will help with balance too.

My foot position was like, back foot ollie position, front foot over the "back 2 front bolts".

Most importantly, GET F#KIN HESH AND JUST STOMP ON THAT SH*!!! If you bail hardcore it will be so glorious...bask in it. Then get the f* up and try again.

what helped me with fs 180 is two kinda think of it as two parts. Wind up and ollie, THEN unwind and the board will spin with you. idk if that helps at all.

You ride, you pop the board in your front hand, (dont let your frontfoot touch the ground) then jump high and put your board back under your feets)

Bomb drops or Acid drops can't be set. They just include jumping from a standing position holding your board, jumping onto your board. Bomb drop is a melon grab hand position, Acid is a nosegrab hand position...or vice-versa, don't quite remember.

They are fun to do off of stuff like cars, stairs, fences, small buildings, etc...but they don't constitute a rolling trick since you aren't rolling in the beginning.

Body Varials, Fakie Ollies, Boneless'es, and Nollie F/S Shoves are the easiest ones I can think of if you guys need ideas.

Well yeah it was close because you rolled for a bit switch and then reverted. The problem I had with rheng's was he reverted immediately without rolling switch for about a foot.
