View Full Version : Hardcore, anyone into it?
Opivy587 05-06-2008, 01:24 PM I'm an avid skater from Massachusetts and I'm a huge fan of the hardcore genre. I go to local shows all the time and play guitar for a hxc band (myspace.com/snakesandhounds - recordings up next week!). The strange thing is that I hardly ever meet anyone else who is into both of these things, I guess they just don't go together too well. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else shares my interests, or if I'm the only one lol.
FightFlyCrow 05-06-2008, 02:47 PM This whole damn scene makes my eyes roll back
I LOVE HARDCORE BOYS, I LOVE BOYS HARDCORE!
I love hardcore boys, its too good to be true
One on one or the whole damn crew
It's all exciting for us so lets give it a whirl
I love hardcore boys cuz they make my toes curl
mosaic1 05-06-2008, 02:52 PM hardcore is lame, i mean the music is alright dont egt me wrong but seriosuly. the scene kids and crap ruined all for everyone. just like another regualr thing you know. whatever though i like classical anyways lol. :)
Grifter 05-06-2008, 02:58 PM The real hardcore shows are still happening, just not as large a scale as they used to. I'm *in* a hardcore punk band, so I can safely say that I love hardcore music.
drizzle 05-06-2008, 04:30 PM hardcore punk = **** yeah
today's hardcore = **** no.
Shorty's_Kid 05-06-2008, 04:40 PM Hardcore Punk, or Hardcore Metal?
I vote Yay for both.

Well yeah, hardcore punk and modern hardcore are so different, but I love both. Anything from Minor Threat, AGT, or Career Suidice, to Modern Life is War, Palehorse, and This is Hell. It's all good. But as far as Hardcore metal, I don't know what that would be.
I've never heard of Diecast, but I'll check them out. Theres alot of bands from my area, Merrimack Valley, like Hammer Bros, Shipwreck, and Have Heart.
And Mosaic1, I totally get what your saying, theres alot of douchebags that say they're into it that just make the whole genre look stupid.
FightFlyCrow 05-07-2008, 02:55 PM For some reason Limp Wrist is the perfect band for summer.

GAYIN' UP TEH P0NX!
imdesigner 05-08-2008, 10:13 AM i am totally not into it but it seems it is quite popular here
J-Ros 05-08-2008, 10:16 AM Well.. hardcore today, here in the Netherlands is a music for people who call themselves 'Neo-nazi's, wearing bomber jackets, army pants and big high black boots (dunno how you call them in English.. lol).. most of them are racist and stuff.. the music is mostly a insane bassline.. some techno sounds through.. and every now and then a text which says 'Sieg Heil'.. gotta hate it
But if you are refering to hardcore punk.. i'm in ;)
FightFlyCrow 05-08-2008, 10:26 AM The boots you are talking about are called combat boots here in the states.
OwnageKingX 05-08-2008, 01:00 PM Hardcore punk is badass.
I'm into oldschool hardcore as well as the new stuff.
Scensters do bring gayness to shows, but it's fun kicking their skinny ass's in the pit.
My favorite Hardcore band is "Stick to your guns" because their lyrics send a bright message, and the music makes me wanna skate fast or tear someone's head from their shoulders.
I'm gonna see them for the 2nd time tomorrow. The show is gonna be crazy, especially since they've got a new cd commin out soon.

Lol =P There's a football field in front of my house and it's a meeting place for all kind of kids. They usually play that kind of hardcore. When I go skate I only hear "DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM" =P It's really crazy music.
Check it out if you want: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=6CAmVCzI1n8&feature=related
I used to listen to hardcore punk a bit, bands like Madball and Agnostic Front. I'm going to see Madball and Converge this summer, but to me Converge is freaking noise. Madball is music but Converge is just weird yelling and stuff.
M. Mordha 05-08-2008, 11:00 PM I would be quick to say the whole boston hardcore scene is 'a bunch of idiots beating people up just to seem...hardcore, because their too stupid to do anything meaningful'
I would say that, but Ive heard people say that stuff within black metal, such as Euronymous' murder, was done by 'some idiot who just wanted to seem...hardcore (but in a different sense)
and because I dont want to seem like one of those düshes I jsut mentioned, I wont say anything about boston 'hxc', other than I personally dont see anything good about it.
I mean, at least black metal died when it got old...
:)

So...the "bright" message makes you want to rip someone's head from their shoulders? That hardly sounds bright.
The best hardcore is late Black Flag. Listen to "In My Head" on repeat for a few hours and you'll know why.

I think he means that the sound of the music makes him want to rip someon'es head from their shoulders. I see that as a bad thing, but apparantley he doesn't.

Well, every band has their own sound and style.
Stick to your guns has very inspirational morale-based lyrics,
But the breakdowns give me an intense feeling.
Common Enemy makes me wanna skate fast, because of the lyrics and the rapid-fire vocals.
Unearth has a fast paced vocalist and brutal breakdowns. Some songs have a pretty good meaning along with the lyrics. But at the same time i feel super intense, due to the brutality felt from the music.

But at the same time i feel super intense, due to the brutality felt from the music. That happens to me too, mainly with fast songs. That's one of the reasons I listen to hardcore, because it has fast songs. I can be listening to a song then all of a sudden I feel this rush and I just want to move, not just sit there and nod my head.
LukEASY 05-11-2008, 05:30 PM So wait, where in MA are you from?
I'm from the Worcester County area [central mass] and there are actually a lot of good hardcore bands around here. In fact a few of my friends from my high school are in good hardcore bands. Have you heard of Ligeia? The ex-drummer goes to my high school.

Hell yeah, bro. I swear... Hardcore, Deathcore, Grindcore... Pretty much anything fast or heavy. I just can't stay still.
hahaha
And when i'm at a show, if i'm all wired on energy drinks... I just can't keep myself from going into the pit. Even if there's big dudes throwin judo-kicks.
anton619 05-12-2008, 12:22 AM do people still hardcore dance? :O
NativeSkater 05-12-2008, 12:37 AM do people still hardcore dance? :OActually they do. It has even evolved to actual dancing(not saying that moshing isn't a dancing style). There are people that come to shows and do dance moves made specifically for the hardcore genre. I didn't know that though until I saw this documentary called Inside Straight Edge. But yeah they do.
OldSchoolKid 05-12-2008, 12:40 AM my war is the most depressing album. EVER.

PirateMafioso 05-12-2008, 11:49 AM It depends on what hardcore your talking about.
The hardcore "Hxc" kids, AKA Screamo
or
The real Hardcore, which derives from punk rock. A Wilhelm Scream and Everytime I Die

Yeah, those would probably be the skinheads. I'm sure that stuff is way bigger over there, but I've seen a few of their bands over here. That stuff is so lame. It's sad, because sometimes they make some decent music, but they're busy singing about how much they hate blacks, gays, or anything else they're afraid of.

I'm from Dracut (really small town next to Lowell) and I go to shows in Haverhill, Lowell, and Nashua NH mainly. And yeah I've heard of Ligeia (I've never gotten a chance to hear them though) and I'm pretty sure my bandmates have played with them. I'm in a band called Snakes and Hounds and all of my bandmates used to play in Holy War.

Jup.. skinheads here.. the same people.. only most of them have mullets, bomberjackets and army boots/pants.. a lot of racism is in the lyrics.. most of the times about people from Turkey, Morroco and off course, gays :)
Girlv.s.Lakai13 05-13-2008, 05:58 PM hardcore is ok during these days
Nameless 05-14-2008, 07:40 PM HARDCORE RULEZZZZ!

Okay too that many z's but seriously I personally HATE most mainstream music, so HARDCORE suits me fine especially bands like Between The Buried and MeI hate a lot of mainstream too. Because Hardcore has lyrics I can relate to, but mainstream has lyrics that are usually about somebody else. What the hell is that! I don't understand how people can like a song that is for example, about the drummer's girlfriend. That's just stupid to me.
Shorty's_Kid 05-14-2008, 08:31 PM Whilst we're on the subjects of hardcore-dancing and moshpits, I would just like to add that I lose about 75% of the respect I might've had for you before If I see you doing either of the two.

kaylaaiken 05-15-2008, 12:01 PM I personally love the mosh pits... Hardcore really brings that adrenaline rush that you can't control. It is the best feeling!
Hardcore punk and hardcore metal.... Love em both!

riots?! **** YEAH CIRCLE PITS!
FightFlyCrow 05-15-2008, 06:43 PM There is one thing to be in a pit, but the majority of shows I go to people are just being violent for the sake of violence, rather than some sort of mutual agression. Its gotten to the point that I dont go to certain shows just becaue of the fan base(Municipal Waste being the most recent example). And for get about hardcore house shows. There is so much disrespect coming from a lot of people that I dont know why people book certain bands in their own home. There are a lot of people that need to learn a lot of respect.
[/older jaded punx's rant]

I would rather to be able to go to a show and not be worried about how many times i'm going to get punched in the back of the head by a bunch of douchebags that think they are cool by flailing their body around and htiting random people.
I don't mind jumping around and stuff. Thats fun. But seirously, give me ONE good example as to how "Hardcore Dancing" or violent moshpits don't make you look like a complete tool.

Shorty's_Kid 05-17-2008, 09:13 PM ^I actually like Satin. Why would you want to burn it? It's a quite soft material, it feels nice.

Hardcore music is amazing! So is moshing hardcore dancing and being scene. Over here in cincinnati scene skaters seem to be taking over. Quite interesting. I listen to stuff like Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Heavy Heavy Low Low, ect.

Okay... for a minute there I thought you were just bashing on hardcore... but now I get ya...
On a different note: Perhaps the whole idea of a 'dance' is unique to my area, because wikipedia has an article written about it and most of the dance steps that I've seen are listed here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_dancing

Ok thats an understandable arguement if you've never been to a show, but it really is more than that. Theres definately the dudes who want to show how tough they are by just hitting people, but usually people just dance and have fun. And yes, theres definately legitimate dances. They're very aggressive, but it's fun and you can actually add you own style and whatnot. And no, you dont want to try to hit people while hardcore dancing.

Well usually the majority of kids at shows arent those guys who just want to hit people, sometimes you'll get stuck with the a**holes, but most of the time you just get to dance and have fun.
Shorty's_Kid 05-19-2008, 05:19 PM ^I have seen over 30 bands, And I have yet to see someone hardcore dance/seen a moshpit where people weren't simply trying to hurt other people.
OH SORRY! I DIDN'T MEANT TO PUNCH YOU 3 TIMES AS HARD AS I COULD! MY BAD!
I've been in moshpits, I've been caught in a group of "Hardcore Dancing", I know what it's all like.
And you will NEVER be able to convince me that it is a dance. Every time I see someone do it, all I see is somebody having an intentional-severe seizure.
R Heng 05-19-2008, 05:31 PM i like old hardcore, like the bands that were around in the 80's like bad brains, minor threat, etc.
On a related note, anyone seen American Hardcore? its on google video if your intrested. Quite an intresting documentary.
FightFlyCrow 05-19-2008, 05:57 PM I really hate that a lot of people only listen to bands that are broken up. So much of music(especially genres like hardcore) is about the live experience. FightFlyCrow 05-19-2008, 08:58 PM St Louis doesnt really have a music scene other than noise and hardcore. So no powerviolence bands really came through. But since I moved here I have been to a couple of powerviolence shows and it was fun. Not something I listen to much, but great live.

Man... I don't know whos what anymore; either too many bands are either shifting genres or being classified differently according to the person whos defining it...
So I gave up on trying to define a bands influence or genre, especially when it came to the "harder" music genres like metal and all the other "cores"... plus its too damn hard trying to think contructively at 2 in the morning... :)
PirateMafioso 05-20-2008, 11:51 AM No dude I hate screamo. Everytime I Die is pretty good, but not exactly hardcore.
I consider them hardcore, cause they dont fit any other genre i see thats coming out nowadays. They do have the punk influence as well. So the Hardcore im talkin about is the genre they fall under.
I love the kids on here who "Love hardcore" but then name bands that fall under diff genres such as screamo or death metal.
BTW, sorry this is delayed, my ass hasnt been on in forever.

Everytime I Die is a Southern Metal/Hardcore Punk hybrid. Kinda like Sludge-metal.
But yeah, it ****in annoys the piss outa me when i hear kids call Death-metal "Screamo" or "Hardcore"
PirateMafioso 05-23-2008, 02:41 PM Everytime I Die is a Southern Metal/Hardcore Punk hybrid.
Thats what i was calling them. Haha, my last post says Hardcore deriving from punk, I.e. Wilhelm Scream and Everytime I Die, but some whiny ***** said they werent hardcore.
OwnageKingX 05-23-2008, 09:22 PM ^^^
Well it actually depends on which album. Because their latest album is a hell of a lot more Southern metal then Hardcore. But the influence is still there. Just not as strong as previous albums.

Shorty's_Kid 05-26-2008, 11:43 PM ^the Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Norma Jean, and As I Lay Dying are all chrisitan bands (Even though Underoath isn't hardcore). Just say your listening to one of those 4, haha.
NativeSkater 05-26-2008, 11:59 PM That probably wouldn't work out too good. Underoath and As I Lay Dying are two of the christian bands I listen to, and my mom doesn't even want me to listen to them because of how they sound. YOU'RE EVER SO INVITING doesn't even change her opinions about it. But she still lets me listen though, she doesn't like to hear it.

Well it actually depends on which album. Because their latest album is a hell of a lot more Southern metal then Hardcore. But the influence is still there. Just not as strong as previous albums.
My poor ass hasnt downloaded it yet.
