View Full Version : What do you were when you do 5050 stands?
PrimoSlide 05-11-2008, 12:40 PM Do you were something on your hands and legs when you do 5050 stands for protection?
Personally i like to wrap tape around my fingers, lessons the cuts on my fingers.
Tyler Self 05-11-2008, 12:46 PM I have never used tape, but I use shin guards almost religiously in freestyle.
amirshaw 05-11-2008, 12:51 PM i dont do anything right now but before i sued to do shin guards, helped so much
Callum Bowran 05-11-2008, 01:33 PM Depends on the trick. If it's just general every day skating I'll not have anything on my hands and just wear shinpads, but if it's some hard truck transfer i'll tape up.
Panda 05-11-2008, 01:34 PM I want to try out shinguards sometime. In one of my latest videos you'll notice I wear tape on my fingers, idk what kind it is but it looks like scotch tape but its alot tougher and more flexible lol.
What I used to do though was put a sock in my pants where my knee is at, so when I did pogo's it didn't scrape up my jeans and my knee.
but now a days, idm the pain because it is a neat sensation, that may sound awkward, I dont enjoy pain haha but when im freestyling it makes me feel more real...though I do admit if I had shin guards i'd feel a bit safer hehe.
But mostly I use tape, I even used a few band aids a couple times when I couldn't find my tape lol.
smallskaterkid 05-11-2008, 01:36 PM nothing
when i started pogoing it hurt but you sought of just get used to it
Minihub 05-11-2008, 03:59 PM Well to be fair I wear gloves, but they do not help at all. They were £1.50 from a vending machine and my local dry slope, so umm, not great quality. After 1 fingerflip they became fingerless gloves. They're just a placebo now.
AntiHero777 05-11-2008, 05:39 PM If I'm doing anything carousel/truck to truck related then I bust out the gloves. Shin pads I don't use that often though, probably because I don't do many nhpogos.
fogle 05-11-2008, 06:21 PM I used to wear tape on my fingers but not anymore my fingers don't seem to get scraped by the grip tape anymore, although I always have tiny cuts all over my hands from doing fan flips and stuff but I don't mind
jmaiurro 05-11-2008, 06:42 PM Once in awhile ill use shinpads, not a regular thing though. The only time I use tape/glove is when I know im going to be doing a carousel because they've made a nasty cut on my finger, which kills when you mess up because its bruised. For nh pogo's though I use a volleyball kneepad. One of these days when i get a job im gonna buy those decomposed shin pads instead.
girlsk8r 05-11-2008, 08:07 PM I wear the decomposed shin guards pretty much religiously like Tyler. :) Just makes skating that much more enjoyable without constant shin pain and keeps my legs prettier. haha I will wear gloves every once in awhile but I find them a little uncomfortable and feel like I don't have as much control over the board. Maybe that's just because I don't wear them often though. I've been trying carousels lately though and I'm going to have to get used to gloves to learn those because the one time I was trying them over and over I about made my fingers bleed.
Tyler Self 05-12-2008, 10:48 AM I don't use decomposed shin guards though Emily (if that's what you meant). I use women's field hockey shin guards, from harrowsports.com. They are terrific though I tell you.
Callum Bowran 05-12-2008, 12:05 PM I'm all about the TSG shinpads.
Nameless 05-13-2008, 01:48 AM I actually use a combination of bowling gloves (or fingerless gloves) with sports tape on both hands, the way I wrap my it makes me look i broke four of my fingers :)
FlatlandBran 05-13-2008, 05:49 AM I wear BMX gloves, but with ducttape wrapped around the fingers. I also wear hockey knee/shin guards, and althrough they're huge, they protect tons.
phlap 05-13-2008, 06:26 AM What happens if you're somewhere and you suddenly feel like doin' a no handed 50-50?
Run home and get pads?
No I just do it padless.
Tyler Self 05-13-2008, 06:44 PM I don't do them at all if I don't have shinguards.
arling777 05-13-2008, 07:16 PM This is going to sound goofy but...Since I started carousels a few days ago, I've had tape on four fingers, shingaurds, a 5ish inch armband on my left wrist with half of a plastic gatorade bottle taped to it (to protect my wrist from the board snapping down on it (im not letting that happen twice)), a regular armband on my palm to help with the pain from catching it, and shinguards.
I didn't start that way tho...My fingers started bleeding so I taped em up, i hit my wrist so I wore that thing I made, and I've gotten hit in the shins doing 50/50 tricks far too many times not to wear shin guards.
bbengyak 05-13-2008, 08:42 PM ^Yeah, carousels will do that to you, all that I ended up doing though was wear a glove when learning them.
Nameless 05-15-2008, 03:31 AM I try landing them... ^_^ (I can't flip out once I'm in... er!!)
IrvinJ 05-18-2008, 02:02 AM I actually never used anything although I want some shinguards XD
McCrank 05-18-2008, 02:53 AM uhm since when did 5050 stand need shin guards or gloves or tape?
Only trick i remember needing pads for was no handed pogo and i didn't need them after a few weeks of no handed pogoing.
PrimoSlide 05-18-2008, 09:42 AM uhm since when did 5050 stand need shin guards or gloves or tape?

same here, after you do pogos alot you just get used to the pain.
Genji 06-14-2008, 09:33 AM I just started nh 50-50s last week. Using nothing and my shins look like I'm an abused orphan. Might be time for shin guards.
Chart 06-14-2008, 09:51 AM Here's what I do. I wear nothing, the board rips out of my hand and now it hurts when I type. Which sucks since I'm a programmer. Yeah I'm going to pick some tape up.
Trickster**FS 06-14-2008, 12:09 PM I wear green lately!
No pads, gloves when I remember them..
Pain is good and makes you try harder.

FSBBD 06-14-2008, 08:05 PM i wear nothing but i once got a blister because of the griptape
freestyledog1 06-14-2008, 08:09 PM yes decomposed smith/scab shin guards and johnson and johnson tape as recommended by Jon Bunn
505088K 06-15-2008, 04:26 AM I got some gloves on. that really help me. but I can live without them
Tim-A 06-15-2008, 05:09 AM yes decomposed smith/scab shin guards and johnson and johnson tape as recommended by Jon Bunn
what do you do with the tape
Callum Bowran 06-15-2008, 05:42 AM wrap it around the tips of your fingers
Neo IZK 06-15-2008, 03:33 PM Right now I don't use anything. But, I actually have some decomposed shin pads on the way right now. I can't wait to get them.
