As the title has stated I am new to druming.
And I was just wondering if a metronme is worth the investment.
Also any tips would be nice.

i dont really see the point in buying a metronome for drums, when ur the one who sets the beats. but thats my opinion. and for tips......hitting the drums harder wont make you sound better(i found this out the hard way)
No. Ask me any questions you need to know. Ive been drumming for awhile, I'll do my best to answer.

nah, dont get a metronome. just get some good quality headphones and listen to some easier songs while playin. and get sinced up with it. youll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Definitely do get a metronome. What's the point in being a drummer if you aren't going to learn to keep time. Sure, you set the beats, but if each bar is at a slightly different speed how are your bandmates going to keep up.
It's very true that hitting the drums harder won't make you sound better though; several mates are always doing that when they muck it up-they just make more noise to compensate.
Seeing as you're just starting out then you might as well start right. When I had a teacher he insisted on it. Just play for 5 mins or so on one speed setting. Here's a hint - until you can play in perfect time on a really slow speed setting (say 40bpm) then there's still work to be done. After a while, you'll just have that instinctive ticking in your head when you play. Hopefully it won't drive you mad any time soon ;).

Don't buy one, if you have a computer near your drum set, you can just listen to one on the internet

No. i drum for 3.5 years now, and even when your half deaf (like i am..) a metronome makes no sense.. i never needed it, i never used it.. just learn without it :) Timing comes with practicing

True, good rhythm comes from within, but a metronome can be a good investment.
When it comes time to lay down some tracks in a recording studio, you're 99% going to be asked to play to a click track. If you can't make your beats line up with the clikc track, you're F'd.

Yeah dude, i drum and everything, but i've never used a metronome. I think that its more effective (and more natural) to just listen to songs w/ cd player, iPod, mp3, w/e you can get your hands on, and drum to it, you'll get the hang of it, really. It's your choice though, when i learned piano a while ago, my friend used a metronome, but i didn't, and i have just as good timing as he does, it's really just with practice, and you have to make sure to listen to music, even if you're not drumming, listen to the drums.
hope i helped

Use this when you practice instead of buying a metronome
