View Full Version : Old Skool Greeting from NYC
Lifeseeker 05-21-2008, 11:58 PM Greetings to all here.
Saw someone saying he was old in his intro, but I am 20+ older on top of that dude. I am 45 years old. Started when I was 15, and got back into it again when my kids saw LODT (Lords Of Dog Town).
Hoping to hit some bowls in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Also Hoboken has a sweet park too.
Look foward to being a member of the forum

We look forward to having you :D
Glad to hear you are taking up skating again, as well.
Welcome :)
Lifeseeker 05-22-2008, 12:42 PM Thanks for the welcome!
My arsenal are the following
Jay adams Z-flex (Green and black)
Powell Peralta Frankie Bulldog
Z-flex Pig deck
SMA Stigmata.
All have nice sticky wheels, and tracker trucks.
Nice big boards for bowls and swimming pools :icon_bigg
Damn pity Z-flex closed their doors. I personally think they made the best decks.
Later dudes, crossing my fingers the rain stops. Four days straight, I am ready to lose it! :icon_redf

Lifeseeker 06-17-2008, 08:28 PM I just wanted to thank everyone for being really cool at making me feel at home in the cafe.
I have to admit, this has to be the MOST FRIENDLY group of skaters, and supportive.
I can not thank you all especially with my efforts in starting a skate team in the area I am now living. It really makes me go and make a REAL effort to make this happen for these kids.
You folks have no idea what rough lives these kids have. They are all from broken homes (parents being divorced) and not having money to purchase skate boards. Any skateboard that is around, five kids have to share that board. Really sad man.
So that is why I am working with Z Sports Distribution and getting as many of the kids regular blank decks, for those who can afford them. I am dishing out of my own money 3 or 5 decks just for the kids to borrow, and then keep them at my house.
Funny how they love to ride my boards, but want those plain boards to do their tricks. I can't wait to unleash them in a bowl or an invert ramp. There they will learn why you need 'sticky wheels' like I have on all my boards. They want to ollie, kick flip, etc. and they can't do any of those tricks on my boards. They are all made for bowls and other concrete type parks.
I have been doing well on my skating. I try to get out every day and skate on the basketball court in the park there. The court is so smooth man, and it is such a great ride. The court is on a slight incline, so you do pick up speed when you head down to the other end. Pity they never made the new skate park next town over as they promised (Forest Park in Glendale, <QUEENS> NY). They said it was going to be like this OWL PARK in Brooklyn, but as all cities, they lied.
If you want to see some of the kids I am working with, check out the picture I have posted on my space.

Later folks

We are talking back in 1976, so there weren't any skateparks or anything like that. Just skating on the street. I was in Queens, a part of NYC. I just to ride a skateboard that was made of Fiberglass. All the boards in those days were the thick plastic in the shape of a surf board. :icon_snif
I skated until 1980 and then went to college, and then worked in an office. It wasn't until I rented LORD OF DOG TOWN with my sons who then took an interest. My older son worships JAY ADAMS.
So I got them skateboards, and they kepts some boards at their house, and I got more boards to keep at mine since we are divorced. It was then on the Jay Adams Z-flex that I started to skate again a year ago. I had lost enough weight so I didn't have to fear of snapping the board. {rf)
So with the limited time I went to California to skate, and what I did here in NYC I got back on the board and started again. Pity I moved from Rutherford,NJ as they had paved the road in front of my apartment. The road was so smooth it was an incredible ride. The avenue was not too steep either so I could practice without fear of speeding and having the dreaded SPEED WOBBLE!
My dad got put into a nursing home, and my lease was about over at the Rutherford apartment so I moved in to help my mother out. So here I am in NYC helping Mom, and trying to work with kids and keeping them out of trouble with skateboarding!

Hey Jilli,
I have to REALLY think about where I did skate in those days. I hate to say that lately my memory has been failing. I know it was not far from LA, and near where Dogtown was. I just got thrown into a car with a bunch of people and then heard "all right, lets tear this place". I was staying with a good friend, and I tagged along with his friends.
Was not like I stayed around for a long time, it was just for several months and then headed back. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I was getting heat from my folks to head back. :icon_redf
I will try to remember where it was, but again my memory is not as good as it was. Hope this is not a warning of Alzheimer is my impending doom, just as it has cursed my dad.

Yep, I is old folks, but got the heart of a 16 year old!
I have to admit I having more fun now, than I did back in those days. I have money to spend, and I am not working at this time. I just grab my deck and just RIDE!
I will have to return to work somtime, but for now, I will enjoy the summer and kick that deck around.
I am also dedicating time to these kids around the neighborhood. I am waiting on some decks for the kids, along with my new Quad 12 and another Pig Zflex. That is one nice rider the Z-pig, so I had to have another as you know decks do not last forever.
Damn pity Z-flex closed the doors. They made a damn good board for sure.
