View Full Version : Achy / tired / fatigued, scared of bloodwork results
CT-Matt 05-27-2008, 11:58 PM I'm basically being forced off of my skateboard as a result of being so tired and achy - For about the past half-year I've had almost no energy at all. It can't be blamed on skating too hard because I rarely skate anymore, maybe an hour or two a week. I get plenty of sleep - Usually over 8 hours every night. Now, I sleep in till 11 no matter how early I go to bed, and I'm ALWAYS tired and sore.. when I wake up, it feels like I just did a crazy muscle workout, and everything is sore everywhere.
Anyway.. My mom dragged me into the doctor for bloodwork. They stabbed me and ran a bunch of tests on the blood, then called with the results saying everything was clear. Then they told us to order more blood tests from a blood lab nearby.
Today mom got a call from the lab - They said that I have a high Bilirubin count and a low blood cell count, but they didn't say what type of blood cell is low. So, bilirubin is often associated with the liver, particularly since I had jaundice when I was a baby - it could mean something around the liver is blocked, something has cancer and is pinching it shut, there's a blood blister on my liver, the liver has some sort of disease and can't keep up with all the extra bilirubin, etc..
The rest of the results / details are coming in the mail any day now, then I go back to the doctor friday so he can explain the whole situation.
I'm totally hoping the fix is as simple as taking a pill every day.. I'm praying that it's nothing serious, I would absolutely hate to get surgery or chemo or something like that.. or what if I would die? Agh.
Hopefully these tests caught whatever the disease is early enough. From what I've read online, the earlier something serious like this is caught, the better. High bilirubin counts are common among teenagers, maybe I'll get lucky and slip into the 5% of the population that has something like Gilbert's Disease. Anything but a bad liver.. ugh.
So enough of my rambling. I'll post updates as they come.. in the meantime, I would greatly appreciate your prayers - if you don't believe in that sort of thing, just wish me luck.
Thanks guys.
NativeSkater 05-28-2008, 12:05 AM It'll be alright man. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Enjoi2 05-28-2008, 04:19 PM keep going man ,,,,its nothin serious,,,just keep going,,
Paul J 05-28-2008, 05:35 PM Awh man that's tough, good luck with the results, hope you get better soon. I really really hate operations, I have a fear of them. I hope you don't have to go through anything crappy like that, fingers crossed bro.
says.kate 05-28-2008, 05:47 PM you will be in my prayers :)
CT-Matt 06-04-2008, 10:35 PM Thanks for the prayers and support, guys -
Good news on the whole thing:
The doc said the lab tests weren't as bad as they thought they were. I have what is called Gilbert's disease, but it basically means nothing - some people have noticeable side-effects, but mine is very mild. He said I have that because I had Jaundice as a baby.. so I'll have it for life.
Anyway, the confusing thing is, the cause of my achiness is still unknown. A bunch of my friends think it's like a growth spurt or something. It's a mega growth spurt if that's the case, because it aches like crazy nonstop..
So the doctor's solution was for me to take Advil every night for 2 weeks, then take a week off of it. I told him Advil helped, so that's what he told me. If that doesn't clear things up in like a month, he said to go see like some muscle specialist, I forget the name.. I wish it was as simple as taking a prescription drug and getting it all fixed for good..
missing_no 06-04-2008, 11:05 PM dude what you explained sounds exactly what I went though when I had mono
it was bad enough having it for 3 weeks (slept like 14 hours a day lol)
My best go out to you man
Only thing you can do is not let it get you down, cause that will make it seem that much worse
chrisrokz 06-05-2008, 03:21 AM Well at least it was nothing serious, cancer is a killer, my grandpa just got over lung cancer
Hopefully your soreness goes away soon so you can get back on the board :)
swordman540 06-05-2008, 05:53 AM Dang man, that sucks. I sincerely hope that you get cured as fast as possible, or at least, I hope it's curable.
But don't worry, the whole Skater's Cafe is here if you need us anytime =]
Don't worry about the no skating though, just worry about your health. We wouldn't want you to skate but die =X
Baller 06-05-2008, 09:21 AM Well I'll pray for you...
...but if you do die can I buy your honda :)?
Highawk 06-05-2008, 09:57 AM Hey man, I hope you feel better. If you want I will make cookies and send them too you if you like.
They can be No bakes.
CT-Matt 06-07-2008, 01:27 PM Sorry for my delayed response; I've been busy trying to get over this soreness - Drugging myself with Advil every night seems to be helping enough, but it's still sore enough to be annoying..
Haha, yeah Baller I'll let you have first dibs on my honda - I definitely won't need it after I'm dead =P
Highawk, I LOVE no-bake cookies, they're amazing! I would love that, except they'd probably end up moldy going through the mail. ick. It's the thought that counts though, thanks =D
Thanks again for all of your support guys, I can ace this.
LukEASY 06-07-2008, 01:31 PM I'll keep you in my prayers bro. Good luck :/
Tyler Self 06-07-2008, 09:00 PM Hey man, you're in my prayers too.
About your achiness, it could be the result of the low blood cell count. If you were dificient in white blood cells, you would be sick as a dog. So you must be deficient in red blood cells, which carry oxygen to every part of the body. Perhaps this deficiency is causing your body to not deliver as much oxygen to the places that ache? Like when you skate or do anything, you're tearing little bits of the muscle in there (which makes them stronger when they rebuild), but when that place can't get the oxygen it needs, it may not be able to rebuild properly.
An FMG a day keeps t3h d0ct0rz away.

krookedskater 06-07-2008, 10:55 PM I got yo back son! best of luck.
CT-Matt 07-23-2008, 04:00 PM Thanks so much for all the support guys, I'm starting a full-fledged campaign against this thing.
I'm getting back into skating like crazy. Couple hours every day, I skate until I don't feel like moving anymore.
At this point, there are about 2 possibilities. Fibromyalgia, or a Vitamin D deficiency, or both. I got further blood testing (getting kindof tired of people stabbing me all the time) specifically for Vit. D and they confirmed I have a deficiency. I looked it up and found that I have a large portion of the most common symptoms. The tricky thing is, I also have many of the symptoms for Fibromyalgia.. that would totally not be cool, because basically it's incurable, and I would have it for life.
Fibromyalgia: a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas.
So I'm drugging myself with like every Vitamin-D containing food on the market; lots of dairy products, OTC Vitamin D, etc..
Thanks again for the support / prayers. Let's hope this gets better.
The Beard 07-23-2008, 04:05 PM good luck man. we're with ya.
IFoughtTheLaw 07-23-2008, 04:44 PM I'm sorry to hear about all that man, I hope you can get whatever it is under control. I've been seeing lots of commercials for fibromialgia meds lately, so its a good thing that they at least have something out there to help it so you aren't stuck with something that you can do absolutely nothing about. Anyways, I hope you feel better :)
