View Full Version : Street Decks and freestyle!
itmepaul 05-29-2008, 06:06 AM Well i have been doing freestyle for about 1 year i have used a street deck for all the time i have been doing freestyle. I do freestyle more then street but i still do street on and off (like grinding and some flip tricks) I am thinking about getting a freestyle set up but i dont no if i shd.
This is some of my old footage will get a new video up soon

I want 2 learn truckstands and get a better pogo and do butterflips.
But i finding it hard on my street set up so would getting a freestyle board help me?
Callum Bowran 05-29-2008, 06:15 AM Yes. There are larger freestyle hybrid boards though that mean you can still do both comfortably. The Francis Lavalle board from Reverse is an example of this, as is the Keith Renna from Decomposed. I know Steve Hunt personally uses the Renna, and says he's comfortable on transitions as he is on flat with it.

Where can i order these in England?
Callum Bowran 05-29-2008, 08:18 AM You can't. I'll have a root around and see what I can do for you though.

Oh thanks
I have seen some freestyle set up's on ebay but dont no if they would be right for me.
arling777 05-29-2008, 11:04 AM If I were in your shoes (wanted to skate both FS and street) I'd buy a blank deck, buy some trucks that are narrower than the deck, get offset wheels and skids, then reshape the deck.
Erwin 05-29-2008, 11:21 AM I use a street deck and dont do any street skating at all. I just have a skidplate on the tail for minimizing 50/50 and footwork damage, freestyle wheels for rail tricks and some trucks that are narrower then my board. Ive had a whole bunch of different freestyle shapes but went back to street decks because i feel more comfertable on those. Its al about personal prefference realy. For you a freestyle board might make things easier so you should definatly give it a go, its only way to find out.
itmepaul 05-29-2008, 02:06 PM At the moment i sort of have my street/freestyle board.I always have decks 7:75 wide my trucks are krux and 4.0 all the time bec of all the tricks on the side the axles go down nice and smooth and its about the same width as the deck. then i just have hubba 54mm wheels. I can do loads of tricks on the side. But seem 2 lack with pogo and tricks like that. So all i was wondering was would getting a freestyle board for that help for them tricks?
Callum Bowran 05-29-2008, 02:32 PM Yes, it would.
jmaiurro 05-29-2008, 09:41 PM You can't. I'll have a root around and see what I can do for you though. You can't order Decomposed product's in England?
Panda 05-29-2008, 09:54 PM I used a street deck my whole life in freestyle...but now that I have one its more comfortable BUT this may only be for me lol...but I am so not used to having a small board so I have to adjust though I am doing tricks I never thought I could do.
I just fell like 15 minutes ago trying to NH 50/50 to nosestop lol and I ate it hard cause I didn't exactly stop the nose..I stopped the hardware near the nose haha.
But yeah...fs boards are a greater feeling though depending how fast you get used to things...its a bit difficult...just my personal experience BUT I love it!!!
I am more used to a street deck but dude..its worth it to have a fs deck
Callum Bowran 05-30-2008, 05:56 AM You can't order Decomposed product's in England?
You can, but not everyone wants to have to pay almost as much as the product in order to get it across here.
bbengyak 05-30-2008, 09:27 AM Yoyo has Decomposed decks in his webshop now, no Renna but there is Joe Flemke's model which based after what he used to skate, street decks that he'd cut down himself, and there's Guenther's deck which a bit more traditional in terms of a freestyle shape but still large enough that you should be able to use it for street.

Erwin 05-30-2008, 11:22 AM Ordering from the US is nog so expensive over here in Amsterdam, if i order a deck, the deck + shipping is under shop price most of the time. Just make sure the shipper sends it as a gift and omits a bill in the package to avoid import tax. I get most of my gear from the US.

Yeah I no what he means last time I ordered they held it at ups for like a week, sent me mail saying I need to pay more for this product I was like what is up with that... but I still go there as theres no where else for me too go. (in england)
itmepaul 05-30-2008, 12:31 PM This is the only deck i have ever seen 2 buy in england and even from the skate shop it was £60 just for the deck.

Callum Bowran 05-30-2008, 01:40 PM I used to stock freestyle decks for people to buy in the UK, but there just wasn't the interest in it for me to be able to make money to buy new products.
