View Full Version : How not to be scared of stairs?
Epic Fail Guy! 05-29-2008, 05:22 PM Well I've only been trying stairs for a mounth now, and I can get a 4 every once in awhile. But I'm scared, I rolled away once, but I cant ride away anymore, how do I fix this? I'm terrified of the board shooting out from under me.
KrispyKicks 05-29-2008, 05:26 PM How can you even skate in North Carolina? If you get "tarheels" the road obviously isnt skateable.
nos770 05-29-2008, 05:37 PM Just do lower sets and be comfertable with them.
then move onto bigger things.
I'm not great at skating, but to me thats common sense.
Hellview 05-29-2008, 05:42 PM you just have to do it, don't think and do it.
if you don't commit it's just gonna hurt worse
ISkateZero 05-29-2008, 06:08 PM I made aguide on thisawhile ago..
1. Jump down thestair without the board
2. Ride up and stop before you go off and check it out
3. Go to ollie it, and kick your board out if you think your not going to land it.
4. Repeat step 3 until your comfotableand land it.

You'd think so, we're not backwards rednecks anymore. And we skate on the sidewalk. :]
The Beard 05-29-2008, 06:17 PM mmm. you can..
A) get a little drunk
B) work your way up
C) get in a fight, get that adrenaline pumpin, and just go for it without thinking
or
D) just go for it balls out without the fighting. just dont think about it so much.
Vrait 05-29-2008, 06:32 PM A four stair is really nothing, just go for it! After you land it a few times, the next time you go you will probley have it on lock then.
Thats what happens to me, land a drop like 2 or 3 times, go back in a few weeks, and bam! land ever try.
djkells 05-29-2008, 06:33 PM grow a pair.........
grow a pair.........
of balls =P:icon_2gun
Highawk 05-29-2008, 07:43 PM Bend your knees with the impact of the landing.
The borad will shoot out 90 precent of the time if you don't bend when you land.
Basically listen to music get stoked and do it in a game of skate.
af1 1982 05-29-2008, 08:01 PM It's impossible to land something if you don't commit
Paul J 05-29-2008, 08:08 PM Down a beer and go to ollie it while In a handstand on your board.
No wait thats a bad idea. right?
KrispyKicks 05-29-2008, 08:16 PM You could test my rabid monkey theory which pretty much solves every problem you could possibly have.
skatee15x 05-29-2008, 08:22 PM just get speed and pop a nice ollie. dont think of falling or pain because it if happens then it happens but it will pass. make sure ur concentrated on ur board and adjust ur feet carefully in the air so u land flat on the bolts.
POUNSTER 05-29-2008, 08:30 PM depends on the stair set. its natural to be scared of 2s and 3s. but 14s bust it first try. bro. yannaknamean?
just start off small and do ollies.
eventually you get the feel for them and your doing 7 sets in no time :)

Lol try doing that off of a 7 or higher and I guarantee that you will be too hurt to even try it.
kflip2curbstomp 05-29-2008, 10:10 PM just call yourself a champion and slap yourself on the titties till your ready to ****in RAGE
griptape 05-29-2008, 10:16 PM i had this problem.
dont focus on the stairs. focus right on the edge of the first stair, pop your ollie,
and when youre in the air, THEN focus on getting prepped for landing.
if youre worrying about the landing and the airtime the whole time, your ollie is gonna suck and youre never gonna land it.
just get stoked and dont think.
ricta_rules 05-29-2008, 10:20 PM simple what i do is like work my way up one stair at a time or go from the smallest set in your area and get comfortable and work your way up

All of the above?
Kickerflip55 05-30-2008, 01:26 AM I had this problem too, and I know how big a four stair seems at first.. But really, most four sets are a only a bit more than knee height, just think of it like that and go fast. If you have people there doing it with you it also seems alot easier.
Good luck:)

or drink a rockstar
Aries 05-30-2008, 03:53 AM Read the Overcoming Fear thread. Anyways, I can't ollie a 4-stair yet, but listen to music. Work your way up. And have fun skating. I didn't notice until I read about bending your knees, that I don't bend my knees when I ollie sets.
skateandlive94 05-30-2008, 05:01 AM I also had this problem, just imagine that the stairs aren't there and you are simply popping a nice big ollie on flat ground, that should do the trick.
