I'm almost positive I'm getting a miniDV camera soon, and I as I understand it, these cameras use firewire outputs. A tech savy friend of mine said that I wouldn't have any problem using a firewire to usb converter since my computer doesn't support friewire.

Am I going to run into any problems?

You shouldn't, but theres always a slight chance with computers.
All firewire really does it make the uploads faster.(correct me if I'm mistaken I've never really looked into firewire.)So with the converter all that should happen is slow your uploads down to usb speed.

Usb makes the quality of your footage decrease alot. Just buy a firewire card for about anywhere from 25-40 bucks, then buy the firewire cable and ur set.

Can you use firewire with harddrive cameras? I've never seen a firewire cable, i know what the end looks like that goes into your computer but what about the other end? I wanna see if it would help the quality of my videos.

Yea not all MiniDV's Are disc's. Well I got my MiniDV about 2 weeks ago i'd say, I bought a firewireport and cable for it. Im not smart when i comes to installing things in the comp but its super easy you just open up an extra PCI slot clip in the port close her up. Your comp should reconize the new software. It really easy and the quality is really good!
