View Full Version : Aluminum Deck
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 03:41 PM Just wondering, how many of you have tried an aluminum skateboard? Does anyone know anything about them? If you have tried one, did you like it or not? Why? Furthermore, why am I asking all of these questions?
Because I'm new, THAT'S why.
Thanks

SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 03:55 PM Yeah, ouch!
The other threads were more than 2 months old. No one would look at them. SOOOO...
What would make you want to skate an aluminum board? Would you skate a board if an entire ply was made out of aluminum?
If you've skated an aluminum skateboard, how thick was it? 2mm?
Thanks
SirCheeseburger

okay! Sorry about the searchbar. hehe...
Elemental106 05-30-2008, 03:57 PM ..... Aluminum boards aren't entirely alumnium, jeez, some of you guys are going all like "OW IT WOULD HURT SO SO MUCH ON TEH SHINS" but.. it's actually only one layer of aluminum inside and surrounded by wood like a regular board.
I haven't tried one, but they should be not much different from any other deck except for the tad bit of aluminum. Just get a regular maple wood one.
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 04:07 PM Now, what would you think of the idea of a TOTALLY aluminum board? That's what I've been talking about the whole time. xD

I assumed he was talking about the idea of a skateboard made all out of aluminum. Its been done before. And I think you are mistaken...
Most skateboards have a CARBON insert, not aluminum, because aluminum isn't very strong.
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 04:11 PM Hopefully, this'll get things cleared up...
please post!

Sorry...but I must say...aluminum is quite strong.
Which would you pick? Totally aluminum (strong and light if made right) or 6 wood plys: 1 aluminum ply?
big big big 05-30-2008, 04:13 PM MADNESS!, some kids on this board seem to have an aluminium board stuck in their... anyway, i would rather keep a wooden board, if aluminium was a better material for boards then wouldnt they just use that?.. but its not, wood is the best so they use wood. WOOD. WOOD IS GOOD.

The Beard 05-30-2008, 05:42 PM when you know an admin is going to lock a thread. some people post this before it gets locked. im not sure whyyyyyy, just because i guess.
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 05:46 PM That makes enough sense...I was always curious as to what it meant, as it was in people's signatures and stuff...thanks!

it means that you get a comment in before the admin blocks the user
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 05:59 PM Alright, thanks.
BTW, I'm not interested in a new board (although that would be nice.) :icon_bigg Just curious about the dynamics and stuff of the board. Curiosity is all.

dont_do_it 05-30-2008, 08:54 PM So are you talking about a deck that is made ONLY from Aluminium, or partially?
I had a friend with a 100% aluminium deck. They have inserts in the tail to avoid it becoming sharp, but they wore out after a day of skating.
It was a POS imo, too heavy and made a racket when you skated it.
SirCheeseburger 05-30-2008, 08:59 PM I am NOW talking about a deck that has 6 plys completely wood and 1 ply completely aluminum. Thanks for the post...what would you think about aluminum? (others?)
POS???

are you trying to be funny or is it just me? haha.
You are wrong about the strength of aluminum. It is not strong. It does not have enough impact resistance to withstand skating properly, while keeping the benefits of aluminum and not becoming overall worse than wood. Your experiences with aluminum is wrong in my opinion. Do some true impact strength testing. Even just do some calculations. Or heck, just look at the density and structure. Also, aluminum would not have the same characteristics as wood. It would be like skating something different, I do not know about this. Yet what I have seen from aluminum I expect it to be true.
Trebor 05-31-2008, 02:44 AM that aluminum deck has a 400 pound breaking point
the con of aluminum is that it feels unnatural and it vibrates the hell out of your feet
it will get gouges and stuff it it too

exactly. it wont break but will bend to ****...think soda can. easy to crush. much harder to rip open
SirCheeseburger 05-31-2008, 08:50 AM Okay. Finally Got some answers. Does anyone know how thick those aluminum decks are (the stuff with the tips)? That would help a lot.
So, it would appear that MOST EVERYBODY would rather skate a cereal box than an aluminum skateboard. Alright. Got it.

6 PLYS WOOD AND 1 PLY ALUMINUM...NOT COMPLETELY ALUMINUM. *rips out what remains of hair*
aronsamma 05-31-2008, 08:56 AM ...think soda can. easy to crush. much harder to rip open
of course, wood that thin will crush AND tear
SirCheeseburger 05-31-2008, 09:00 AM Hmm...yeah. Right. *in all seriousness*
hokus pokus 05-31-2008, 09:18 AM im going to through my 2 cents in before the lock...
i knew one guy who had an aluminum board made. it was ALL aluminum!
well, just like wood, the tail started to get a razor like shape...
one day at a park, this kid fail doing some trick that he was trying and the board cut into his leg.
i couldnt tell you all the gory details, but it was very bloody.
i highly recommend not getting one!

lilro 05-31-2008, 11:00 AM of course, wood that thin will crush AND tear
no...it will crack and break open lol...we can go all day on this....aluminum is better if you need something to just not break...but wood keeps shape better
big big big 05-31-2008, 11:00 AM In before the lock statement:

no, and you could end up in jail for a long long time. :icon_woow
