ive watched a couple videos and i noticed that not everyone flicks the same way. some people flick out and up, while others flick down-ish, but still land. When i try to kickflip, my board pops up, does the flip diagonally, then falls down. is this supposed to happen or do i need to flick more downish.

I've noticed a load of people flick off the nose, but I just flick off the side of the rail.

Yup, there are definitely different ways of doing it. However, i was once told, (unfortunately i don't recall where, b/c kudos to them) "There is a difference between someone who can land a kickflip, and someone who can kickflip."

VERY wise saying there ^^

A. You can flick down, but you definitely want to make sure that you dont flick ONLY down, that will result in under-rotation, it will look sloppy if you do get it by luck haha, and your consistency will not be good at all. Here is the key thing that you correctly pointed out up, while others flick down-ish, but still land. Notice the emphasis on that "still land". you may land, but it's not good, and you want it to look good, no matter how much you try to convince yourself that you just want to land.

B. Some people say to flick off of the nose. I used to have a worm-crunching kickflip, and this kid who could do it about 2 feet high (lol) finally just took me aside, and took a stick, and scratched a triangle on the corner of my nose in a good spot, which was "where to flick" i found that it helped A LOT. Also, he marked a place for foot placement, but i got that down now. I have a different board now, so I don't have that stuff on anymore, but i've got it down. I still want to get my kickflips higher though, YOU GOTTA MAKE SURE YOU FLICK, DONT JUST SLIDE YOUR FOOT OFF.

sorry for rambling so long, i hope i helped you somewhat, i'm certainly not the most knowledgeable out there of learning tricks, but i hope i could help you!:icon_bigg

i flip the heel kick it and stomp, land, jump when sliding and heel flick it and you got a good kick flip down.

When people kick down it's called mobbing. I mob my kickflips unfortunately. Aim to kick for the side of the nose and out, it looks boss

What I do is flick out when good ol' gravity is about to take me down from the top of my ollie.

its kind of a down motion but your mostly kicking straight.
your foot should flick straight and toward the nose but flick it out when it reaches the point where the nose starts.
