View Full Version : This is Not a Drug Thread.
EnigmaticSkatin 05-30-2008, 08:48 PM But, I would like to throw some things out there, see what the general public has to say, and will explain the reason behind my curiosity later.
From N.O.R.M.L
"more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. By comparison, marijuana is nontoxic and cannot cause death by overdose. According to the prestigious European medical journal, The Lancet, "The smoking of cannabis, even long-term, is not harmful to health. ... It would be reasonable to judge cannabis as less of a threat ... than alcohol or tobacco.""
"Fact: Most people who smoke marijuana smoke it only occasionally. A small minority of Americans - less than 1 percent - smoke marijuana on a daily basis. An even smaller minority develop a dependence on marijuana. Some people who smoke marijuana heavily and frequently stop without difficulty"
in 1960. 2 Marijuana related arrests per hour.
In 2008. 99+ per hour.
"I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws" - Barack Obama.
on the other hand
From the Center for Disease Controll and Prevention...
"Cigarette smoking remains the leading preventable cause of death in the United States,1 accounting for approximately 1 of every 5 deaths"
"The risk of dying from lung cancer is more than 22 times higher among men who smoke "
"secondhand smoke is estimated to cause from 22,700 to 69,600 premature deaths from heart disease each year in the United States among nonsmokers.2"
AND...
" 80% of high school students have tried alcohol."
from NIDA on marijuana
"only 17.8% of 10th graders had used the drug"
Comments?
Paul J 05-30-2008, 08:58 PM I think that they base the legality of it on the things it causes you to do, rather then the things it does to your health. :/ ? lol I'm not really sure tbh, smoking marijuana probably makes you more of a danger to other people? I'm probably wrong here lol.
Shorty's_Kid 05-30-2008, 09:02 PM Less than 1% smoke marijuana daily?
Well, I guess that entire 1% population is my city, I know of over 50 kids in my school that smoke, and only 5-6 of them just smoke occasionally.
unalive 05-30-2008, 09:03 PM There are many threads on the legality of marijuana. Search bar, plox.
Berishman 05-30-2008, 09:03 PM To Paul J:
Alcohol makes you more dangerous to other people.
I've been around friends when they've used it, and they just say it makes their problems disappear, the moment is all they really care about, they like the feeling.
They were a little giggly, but otherwise completely normal.

Yeah I know I was thinking about that after I posted but alcohol has been very popular for a long time, much more popular then marjuana. Too many people drink alcohol, so it's basically impossible for it to be banned.
emenikmatis 05-30-2008, 09:08 PM how isn't this a drug thread?
we've all seen those "facts" in the old thread

That would be true. However alchohol is also a depressent. Driving drunk=No NO. The same rule applies for marijuana. Or, it should.
The effects are completely different

Its for the discussion of its legal status and like contrasting that to other legal drugs. any information ABOUT the drug is only posted for debate, its not for discussion of use, or promoting its use, its just about its legal status in contrast to other drugs and why you think that is.
Vrait 05-30-2008, 09:13 PM 90% of my school smoke it, haha its really no big deal for us.( I don't)
North 05-30-2008, 11:15 PM Cannabis really did get ****ed by the media in the late 60s to early 70s. They abused their power and spewed out a whole lot of propagandized crap and at the time the scientific research had not been done to prove them otherwise. It was their word and no one else's. Nowadays the research has been done and marijuana has been proven to be practically harmless. Unfortunately propaganda is still spreading like wildfire and falsities are being told to the youth of which are easily molded. If only the pro-marijuana organizations were government funded and got the proper attention they deserve, maybe then we'd be living in a much better world. The legalization of marijuana would mean a lot more than just letting your midnight tokers be able to smoke legally. It would also mean the use of hemp to be legal and thus saving the consumers billions of dollars as a whole. Hemp oil can be used as a substitute for the oil which we use now, but that will never happen since the government profits from the oil industry and god forbid the government not having the entire world in a vice-grip, right?
It's just a damn shame how this all happened.
Cookie 05-30-2008, 11:16 PM Toronto has got to be the most hiiiiiiiiiigh city evers xD! All the kids in my school has tried weed before drinking. Being high is harmless to an extent but in my opinion is better than drinking. Anywho, don't get high and ride guys ;D thats DANGEROUS!
FightFlyCrow 05-30-2008, 11:34 PM I am not going to join in on this thread, just want to make a single point, and no more.
Never trust statistics from an group that has a political agenda. NORML's goal is to legalize marijuana, so they find and use statistics that benifit that political goal.
^ You know, there's really no point in saying "I'll never post again in this thread, only once" - Just post, and don't post again if that's your plan, no one really cares if you stop.
Anyways, I have a question, alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, right?
Of course it is, now, tobacco will most likely kill you in the long-term compared to marijuana, but, what effects does marijuana possess immediately? Meaning what (or better, how) does marijuana effect you in terms of perception? I know that when I've smoked it I felt like laying in a hammock...
...I'm just curious as to the effects it may have on someone, who's, driving for example...

The strain and traits of the marijuana you smoked would all have to be put into equation but let's just presume you smoked a standard indica strain and smoked a standard .5g.
Indica strains affect your body more so than your head, where as a Sativa strain will affect your head more than your body. Neither are really detrimental.
So, you've just smoked a joint of some Indica and you decide to drive down to Wendy's and grab yourself a burger since it, in your eyes, would be the food of Gods at this point and time. Trust me on that one. What you should expect when driving is a slightly impaired reaction time. Not one that is necessarily dangerous, but you'll definitely be driving a lot slower and making wide turns. It's best to drive with no music on or have any other distractions around since your main focus should be driving if you do decide to venture into the world of driving stoned. Now, I don't personally condone the idea of driving while high, but it's not like my opinion is going to affect someone else's decision on the internet.
Just heed this, if you do plan on driving high, make sure you are taking all the necessary safety precautions and driving defensively. It should come naturally to be a defensive driver when stoned, though, since everything you do is intensified mentally because of your intoxicated state.
Play safe, kiddies.
lilro 05-31-2008, 12:52 AM i agree with everything except the overdosage thing..you can o.d. on anything..even stuff thats not drugs...to overdose just means to have too much of something...even though the word dose is in it doesn't mean it only applies to drugs...hell, if you wanted to, you could o.d. on chicken...or even lined paper lmao.
the only reason so many teens smoke weed is because its illegal.
yes it gets you a nice high, but i also think it makes them feel "rebellious"
I think the only reason why Marijuana isn't legal as of right now is because it would be practically impossible to legalise it due to the government not going to be able to tax it.
Who the **** would buy it legally over desks when man would grow there own tings in there garden or habitat.

I made the same thread a while ago, it's in the religion/politics section.
Toad_Freestyle 05-31-2008, 04:45 PM just to fact a lot of people who say they have tried or had marijuana are usually lying and are under peer pressure.....thats what i think anyways.
i think they should defo change the laws, ok fair enough i have only smoked the stuff once and this thread is looking for guys or gals that have experienced the drug and its after effects often.but i know my brother does it often and he has clearly explain the ups and downs of it,which i think a lot of people already know.
alcohol gives most kids the reason to go wild and start fights, going out on the streets making them open to accidents.they wake up spewing and with a sore head if the amount is big.
smoking some drugs keeps you inside, happy and wont have an after effect on off occasion users.
RIP_BOB_GNARLY 05-31-2008, 04:59 PM I could care less that marijuana is illegal. I have no problem getting it and I have never been caught with it so idc.
i agree with everything except the overdosage thing..you can o.d. on anything.
That's plain out bull****.
You'd have to smoke like a pound+ in a couple seconds to O.D on ganja.

you could always eat it...it would be pretty hard to od smoking it cuz you'd pass out...but get high at night and put a blunt in your nose when you go to sleep...you wont wake up

Why not? You have to smoke your bodies weight in marijuana to OD on it, if i'm not mistaken. If you have your bodies weight in marijuana please let me know, i'll be happy to make sure you don't overdose.
