I've been street skatin for only about the last 6 months or somethin, not very long, but I have decided that I think I want to go full on freestyle. So granted I'm going to be picking up a new freestyle deck very soon, but I want your guys' help in choosing the whole setup. Talking to Jeremy at small school, he suggested a deck like this:

Something like the "Con" but bigger. i.e.
7 3/8" x 28 3/4"
13 1/4" wheelbase
5 7/8" tail
5 1/4" nose
Single Kick

Note: I'm 6' with size 13 feet.

So what do you guys think of that? Any tweaks you would suggest or does that sound good?

Also I was thinkin of also ordering Tracker Fultrack trucks and SK8 Kings Crown Jewels 55mm wheels from there. Any suggestions in that department?
From what I see people don't really like the fultracks but I don't see much else in terms of freestyling trucks.

Any and all advice even concerning something I didn't bring up is appreciated as I'm not that informed on the freestyle side of things.

Oh, and I forgot to ask about concave and side cuts. Seeing as how I haven't had an opportunity to form a personal preference yet, do you think I should have a mild concave and/or slight nose or no? And I've seen some decks with side cuts in em, what's the purpose of that? It looks cool but does it help or hinder the board in rail at all or anything?

Well when I first bought my freestyle deck i chose a singlekick too but I thought it was way hard to adapt (or I was just being lazy :p) so I'm sticking with doublekicks.
When I street skate I usually skate 7.75-7.88 and freestyle 7.4-7.625, my shoesize is 10.5.
I have the SK8 Kings Crown Jewels 98A wheels and they're great and I'm thinking of buying the 95A version the next time. The Tracker trucks do have their potetional, however the bushings that come with them are crap and I think you should buy some new. Also the Trackers Kingpin have a tendency to dig into your knee when doing pogos, so buying Grindkings inverted kingpins is an investment.

Jeremy knows what he's talking about he's probably set you up well:) Unfortunately I can't help much with freestyle decks, but the guys here explained side cuts to me a while back so I'll pass it on:) BAsically it means less of the deck is in contact with the floor. That reduces friction, making Primo Slides and Railwhips easier. It might be quite a specailised thing to jump into with your first deck though I don't know.

that sounds very close to what i've been riding. if you're just learning the basics i wouldn't worry about sidecuts. if you can get ahold of some grindking king pins you should replace the tracker pins with them. those stock tracker kingpins HURT A LOT
also, deck style (single kick, double kick, concave, no concave) is something that you are going to have to figure out on your own. i'd try a single without concave and next time u get a board try a single with concave or even a double kick.

mmmm single kicks no concave a sexy thats how I like to ride, maybe you should try the grind king mini's first I thoguht they were an excellent first freestyle truck.

^Gk minis would be way too small for that deck. if he's going to be riding sk8king wheels tracker fulls would be a better choice
if he were riding OJIIs GKs might work but idk

If I made the deck a little smaller do you think Bullet 111's would work better? And any wheels you would suggest better than sk8kings? Other than the OJII's?

And ya I plan to go with some gk kingpins.

merging: Oh and what kind of bushing would you suggest, soft, medium, or hard?

i like hard bushings but that's all up to you. whatever feels good
i recently got a new deck, trucks, and sk8king wheels. the deck was 7.25 and the trucks were bullets but the sk8kings still weren't offset enough for the deck so now i'm just riding old
^not that sk8kings aren't good wheels. i like them, they just aren't very offset
and i've only really skated ojs, sk8kings and ghosts from decomposed. i'd stick with the sk8kings

I would recomend wheels from Little Wheels. Both Decomposed Whitter Ghosts and Small School Wheels are from Little Wheels. The Sk8 Kings wheels are okay, but I prefer little wheels.

I was about to jump in and recommend the Smallschool wheels (see picture below for the offset - from what I remember, that was without washers). I hate Skatekings wheels. They're certainly alot better than the first ones they bought out, but they're still not very nice in my opinion.

Wow seening them wheels and looking at my old reenas this make me realise that im skating wheels that could probably fit a street skater plus they not even of set any more. them wheels look sexy though.

Just jumping in to clarify - Callum hates the Sk8king wheels because for some reason they don't do well with the British roads. I have no idea why. Or at least, last time I talked to him that's the reason he gave. I've ridden them in various places around the US and I think that they're really quite lovely. Certainly better than any other freestyle wheel I've ever ridden.

Also - regarding side cuts. The only person I've ever seen do that is Primo, and he screws in a plastic rail into the side cut to bring the deck flush again. I personally really don't see the point at all.

I'm not sponsored by them, so I don't have to like them. :)

dont side cuts keep the board more stable in rail too?
because the portions over the wheels always wear out fastest. I think its because of the pressure you foot adds, so the wood compacts and gets ground off faster.

just my 2 cents

by sidecuts you all mean the ones that hazze used, right?
i find that they make casper to casper flips and classic kickflips easier but that's about it. not much of a difference in railstands for me

yes those are the ones I was reffering to

Casper to Casper you say? How so?

i think the spot where the side cut starts gives a better...pocket...i want to say...for the foot when flipping the casper to casper. maybe it's all in my head

I am sponsored by no one, and would highly recomend the Small School wheels by far the best wheel I have ridden. The Witter Ghosts are the only freestyle wheel still for sale that I havent ridden.

Wow, thanks for all the help guys! So for wheels, what would you guys chose between:

Small School 51 mm / 98A
Small School 54 mm / 98A
POWELL PERALTA Freestyle (57mm, 95a)
SK8KINGS CROWN JEWELS 55 MM / 95A
SK8KINGS CROWN JEWELS 55 MM / 98A
SK8KINGS SLASHERS - 60MM / 98A
SANTA CRUZ OJ II Freestyle (57mm, 98a)

And in general would you go for 98A or 95A?

FightFlyCrow

Depends on your riding surface and style of riding. I prefer a bit harder wheels because my footwork is quick and a bit choppy. If you ride smoother or only on smooth surfaces you may want softer wheels.

But for your first set up I would get the harder ones. If they are too hard for you liking your next set can be softer.

Yupp I've got the 98A Crown Jewels. I like the hardness just because I like my wheels to slide:icon_woow And personally I like the offset (Though they're the only offset wheels I've had)
