Ok so today its hot as **** outside. Its about 92 degrees and i have no air conditioning on the upper level of my house. Its as hot, if not hotter in my room than it is outside. Today I got three red lights on my xbox, but they werent flashing, they were solid. I unplugged it and waited a while and the system turned back on without the red lights. I assumed everything was fine. But then I tried to turn it on again later, and I got the lights again. I took it downstairs where its much cooler and plugged it in. It turned on and stayed on, no red lights whatsoever, but i didnt hook it up to a TV. I just think it overheated, but I have a few questions;

1. What do 3 nonflashing red lights mean?
2. Can you get the three red lights and not have permanent damage?
3. How much does it cost to repair a 360?
4. Does the 360 overheating even for a second cause permanent damage?

Im sure you can find the answers on google a lot fast then you can get them off of here. But people on the forums with busted 360s say the normal time to get it back is a month. Im not sure if thats true or not but if you send it in, don't think it won't happen, my friend sent his in 4 times since he got it last year.

Well I never sent in a warranty card or anything, and I dont think theres implied warranties. I got it 9 months ago.

As far as 3 red lights are concerned, there's a 3 year warranty, and you DON'T need to validate it or anything.

This isn't the RROD.

Unplug every peripheral from the xbox, and carefully remove the hard drive.

Wait 30 minutes.

Then put the hard drive back in, and reconnect all of the cords.

Should fix the problem.

Also, as was already mentioned, Microsoft acknowledged that there was a problem with the 95 nanometer chips they were using, and the carelessness in assembly of the first few batches of 360. Since then they have began to use cooler running chipsets, and have extended the warranty to three years.

You have an NEVER EXPIRING warranty pertaining to the Red Rings Of Death.

Microsoft will never make you pay to have that fixed, and if it ever DOES happen you need to call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX.

They'll take your name, address, and console serial number, send you a box with a padded place to set the 360, and they pay for shipping and everything.

You just slap an included sticker on the box, and ship it out.

Free of charge.

And it should return 2-3 weeks later.

So if what I said doesn't fix the problem, just give them a call.

It's the official microsoft number btw, no worries.
