Scoop, flick, jump, and stay above your board all at the same time. Seems pretty hard to do 4 things in one motion with one hop, but it's pretty easy.

and try not to lean forward so much. stay over the board.

i still need to learn how to kickflip but some of my friends can tre flip and it looks like they are doing the 3 steps you are talking about
