View Full Version : The Official "Your Local Skateshop's Sponsorship Rules" Thread
Sk8r07 06-09-2008, 07:43 PM Ok guys,
I have all the rules written down.
Asylum's "Sponsorship" Rules:
1.You must be rolling when doing Nollie, Switch, or Fakie tricks.
2.It doesn't matter what you grind on as long as you do a good trick.
3.When jumping stair sets or off ledges you must roll 5 feet.
4.You may do freestyle if you like.
5.You may wear a helmet if you like.
6.It doesn't matter what kind of music you have in the video.
7.If you dont get sponsored the first time, you may send in another video.
8.If you dont get sponsored the first time, you may put old footage from you previous video to your new one.
9.When you get sponsored we will hook you up with a free board every once in a while.

What are the rules for sponsorship at your skateshop/what is the name of the shop?
LukEASY 06-09-2008, 07:48 PM You can't be stationary and do a trick Fakie regardless, then all of those other rules are obvious. Dude, there's no set rules to get sponsored. Get good, have fun, make a video in the meantime. Don't try and get sponsored, it's not gonna happen like that.
RIP_BOB_GNARLY 06-09-2008, 07:49 PM Of course if you are doing a trick in nollie or fakie, you ahve to be rolling. My local shop doesn't even sponsor people. Down To Earth Skateshop is its name and it suck. Pluto Skateshop in Knoxville is the best skateshop ever.
Sk8r07 06-09-2008, 07:57 PM yea i was gonna get sponsored by down to earth until i found out they dont sponsor people when i called them...yea dude (lukeasy) im not gonna try real hard cause i know that if i do i'll hurt myself and probably break my leg or arm
LukEASY 06-09-2008, 07:59 PM yea i was gonna get sponsored by down to earth until i found out they dont sponsor people when i called them...yea dude (lukeasy) im not gonna try real hard cause i know that if i do i'll hurt myself and probably break my leg or arm
Not even that bro, I'm just saying you seem to be all about getting sponsored or whatever. Just skate to skate.
AlmostaSkater14 06-09-2008, 08:00 PM dude why are you so set on getting sponsored. all you seem to care about is getting sponsored. and obviously you aren't getting near there anytime soon. just skate and if your good enough somebody will notice you and get you somewhere. don't do it just for the sponsors.
Sk8r07 06-09-2008, 08:03 PM i do skate for the fun of it....and i also skate to TRY and get sponsored....
Skate for fun:75%
skate 4 sponsorship:25%
ZephyrGod 06-09-2008, 08:04 PM There are no rules to getting sponsored. If your good and the shop likes your style, you'll get sponsored.
Don't focus solely on getting sponsored, as if you do get sponsored other skaters on the team aren't gonna like your attitude towards the sport.
AlmostaSkater14 06-09-2008, 08:11 PM i do skate for the fun of it....and i also skate to TRY and get sponsored....
Skate for fun:75%
skate 4 sponsorship:25%
if thats the way you were, you wouldn't be making endless threads about you and your chances of getting sponsored and what it takes to be getting sponsored. don't worry about it. just skate man.
Sk8r07 06-09-2008, 08:13 PM dude i sound like an idiot...posting all this stuff about sponsorship when i started skating because i liked the sport and when i did start it would relax me evertime nomatter what happened b4 i went out to skate..and andrew (sk8shop dude) he even told me..."dude dont skate to get sponsored. skate for the fun of it. sponsorship will come soon. you dont come to sponsorship, sponsorship comes to you whether its by a shop, am, or pro."
that was his exact words
ZephyrGod 06-09-2008, 08:15 PM Sounds a bit like Stacey Peralta ^^^.
Sk8r07 06-09-2008, 09:16 PM yea dude thats what i thought but thats what he said...hey guys in the future about 1 year from now and if i told you i got sponsored. would you guys believe me?
kk360 06-09-2008, 09:32 PM 1.You must be rolling when doing Nollie, Switch, or Fakie tricks.
Are you serious?
krookedskater 06-09-2008, 09:38 PM 1. don't suck.
2.support them.
3.don't be lame.
I actually have no idea my nearest local shop is 30+ minutes away and I've never been there
AlmostaSkater14 06-09-2008, 09:41 PM yea dude thats what i thought but thats what he said...hey guys in the future about 1 year from now and if i told you i got sponsored. would you guys believe me?
if you had proof. otherwise nope.
kk360 06-09-2008, 09:46 PM "dude dont skate to get sponsored. skate for the fun of it. sponsorship will come soon. you dont come to sponsorship, sponsorship comes to you whether its by a shop, am, or pro."
Irony his you're doing the exact opposite?
soofadude 06-09-2008, 09:47 PM My shop can't afford to sponser a lot of people.

I remember you posting this a couple of weeks ago after you posted the video of the pivot.
Jake_Mystery 06-09-2008, 10:17 PM seriously dude, you need to chill on the sponsor thing. All you talk about is trying to get sponsored, and no offence, you not at the caliber a sponsored rider is. Skate, chill and have fun. Maybe one day you could get sponsored, you never know. But just stop talking about getting sponsored and go skate! :)
RIP_BOB_GNARLY 06-09-2008, 10:27 PM What is so special about getting a shop sponsor? They probably won't even give you anthing for free. Most shops don't like to give stuff away wether they sponsor you or not cause they are struggling to make money to make a living on with all these popular internet shops like ccs and skatewarehouse.

I wouldn't.
And I highly doubt you even know who Stacey Peralta is.
and now you're about to go google him.
sponsorship will come soon.
HA.
I believe the rest, but you totally added the "soon" part.
kflip2curbstomp 06-10-2008, 01:36 AM just relax and skate. if your any good someone will notice you and sponsor you. if your not don't waste time trying to get sponsored, just focus on improving.
Sk8r07 06-10-2008, 08:50 AM hey guys the do give you free stuff every once in a while...and the only time i dont skate to try and get sponsored is when im skating with my friends but every other time im trying to learn new tricks...and ok...but when i do get sponsored in the future i will have andrew get on here and tell you guys that they really did sponsor me (in the future of course...

If you want to stop the flamming stop posting these stupid threads! I mean you're just asking for it you make the thread and you know you're gonna get it.

Berishman 06-10-2008, 10:37 AM and guys im not trying to be mean but could you atleast give me some advice like good tricks to do off a ledge or a stair set or anything without flamming this thread.
That's the thing.
Let's say that, five years from now, you're good enough to be sponsored.
It's not going to happen if you aren't creative enough to come up with your own tricks.
I still find it funny that you think you are good enough to be sponsored.
Have you ever even tried the tricks you see in skate videos?
It's been said before.
If you can't flat 3 flip, you aren't getting sponsored.
And that doesn't mean that you are getting sponsored after you can either.
Adam Walker 06-10-2008, 12:31 PM sk8er07 - I own a shop for one main reason - to provide skate gear to the local skate community. It doesn't make much money but there's one basic rule: support me and I'll support you. The more you support me, the more I'll support you.
Naturally, those with integrity and skills are those who can provide the best support for me. However, the skills I am talking about are not necessarily skills on a board. We give free boards or shoes to heaps of people, for heaps of reasons. It's how we get our shop painted, get DJs or bands at our events, etc.
So, maybe think about it more like how can you support them? What will you do to deserve them to support your skating? It's the same once you get into label sponsorship really, only they develop branding through imagery, stereotyping, and marketing potential, so naturally they want people to rep them that are the best at what they do.
But your local shop would probably be stoked with any action you put in place that showed your potential in successfully representing the ideals of the shopowner. Because their main aim isn't to bombard the planet with a logo - it is to support local skaters.
ps. if you're local shop is not there to support local skaters...burn it down...! Or at least don't go there.
