View Full Version : Questions on breaking bones
Sheckler_Kid 06-09-2008, 08:45 PM Hey guys.
I was just wondering if you had any tips on avoiding breaking your arm or anything in skating, because I've been watching some videos on YouTube, and they're not cute. And if you've ever broken a bone before, can you tell me how it feels?
ISkateZero 06-09-2008, 09:00 PM Never broke one, but just drink milk, take vitamins, eat your veggies.
krookedskater 06-09-2008, 09:15 PM it hurts but then after a while your just like oh,ok I can wait. it hurts, kinda tingles hurts to move the arm, overall feeling blows donkey ****.
right collar bone 2x
not fun, avoid at all cost.
zeroordie13452 06-09-2008, 09:27 PM i havent broken a bone yet in my year of skating, but then again my biggest stair is a 4 and highest ledge about 3 feet high, so idk yet.
but you can always use your miiind power to control your bones and tell them that if they break there will be hell to pay!!!!, and deff drink plenty of milk =]

kflip2curbstomp 06-09-2008, 09:50 PM well i've never really broken a bone, but i know lots of people who have. most of them were in shock and seemed pretty calm.
Blazz741 06-09-2008, 10:01 PM what are teh chances of an average skater breaking a bone? O-o
RIP_BOB_GNARLY 06-09-2008, 10:57 PM Don't break your falls with your arms. Take the fall to your ass if possible or try rolling.
sK8torTouC@n 06-10-2008, 12:05 AM I've broken my arm twice and to tell u the truth they dont hurt very much... at first
When i broke my first arm i just was delirious and laughing all the way to the hospital
an hour or so later the pain and realization hit me that i broke my arm
I proceeded to wait 5 painful hours in the hospital till 2 in the morning
so all in all, its not an experience that u will enjoy
heartagram695 06-10-2008, 12:08 AM lets see.....how not to break bones......dont be stupid. do things you know you are comfortable with doing and you most likely wont get hurt and if you do it will be really minor

anyways believe me that HURT LIKE A MOTHER, if you wanna know how it feels... click your tounge, and then close your mouth and click it, it sounds and feels like that. or you can just break a chicken bone or something underwater.
Just learn to fall on your shoulder or something. i clearly broke my fall with my arm which.. you shouldn't do. I was racing my friends back to the car, pushing as fast as I could.. and the trail was a little downhill, I think I hit a pebble or something.
anyways, theres 2 metal plates and 13 screws in my arm, I almost went into shock, and that little bloody thing is where the bone came out.
other than that I've had 2 other minor breaks and they're nothing. annoying, but when I broke my wrist it took me 3 days to work up the motivation to go to the hospital. with those you don't have anything to worry about
heroin skates 06-10-2008, 12:34 AM well i broke my arm and a few fingers. they dont hurt to bad ive had spraines hurt more and for longer.
to avoid breaking arms just when you fall dont catch yourself. naturaly when you fall you want to throw your arms to catch your fall wich is how you break arms. to avoid it just dont catch yourself try to take it on your back or shoulders. i catch myself with my arms but i should stop
i think theres a vid on youtube...

Sisterbaysquad 06-10-2008, 09:15 AM i never broke a bone but i got 2 dang close a few times. first, u feel nothing, u just lay there thinking "this dont hurt" then when u make the slightest movement it hurts a little, so u quick go like tell sumone. then, in about 5 minutes u will start having contusions, which is when blood rushes to the spot u hurt, and then u feel lightheaded cuz all ur blood went from ur head. ya, it aint fun.
street skater 06-10-2008, 09:21 AM Drink milk, i've only ever fractured my elbow.
loose bolts 06-10-2008, 02:08 PM never broken a bone in my life, ive landed on my arms to and they didnt break, I also dont eat vegatables or vitamins and i rarely ever drink milk, not joking dead serious

TheExtremist 06-10-2008, 03:14 PM also when falling learn the:
tuck and roll.
Seriously dude, you have to learn how to fall. Watch some daewon song vids; his bails are masterfull.
I broke my collarbone before but it didn't hurt as much as i thought it would. It actually hurts more in this stupid humid weather than it did back when i broke it.
I amThe1 inUr80 06-10-2008, 03:47 PM yes, learning how to fall is good, also dont try anything u aint certain u can land.
TemperMode 06-10-2008, 07:27 PM 14 years skateboarding, many, many injuries, no broken bones, but many a broken heart. Sorry ladies.
just try to roll when you fall, hurts a lot less
fluke 06-10-2008, 07:40 PM Learn to fall and break (pun intended) the habit of stopping your fall with your arms. Also.. this is why I wear wristguards and elbow pads. :D Every little bit helps, eh?
BTW: I'm positive those pads have saved me from a broken wrist or two and some cracked or broken elbows so far; and I don't skate that often!

i know dude i broke my collar bone didnt feel a thing it dint hurt at all i just couldnt move my arm :)
Adam Walker 06-11-2008, 06:06 AM I have had busted ligaments in ankles that hurt WAY more than broken bones.
Although once I broke my thumb doing a blunt ollie to fakie on a sizey halfpipe...except I thought that it was just sprained. I walked around with a purple thumb for a week...until I thought maybe I should go to the doctor. The doctor sent me straight to emergency and I went in for surgery that night. Because I had left it for so long and I had shards of broken bone in my thumb that were lacerating the inside, it wasn't good. The result is that I cannot bend my thumb like I could before it broke. And it hurt...a lot.
Moral - if you are a bit suss on an injury, get it checked out just incase.
2DALMAX 06-12-2008, 01:47 AM i heard it sucks bad
Michal 06-12-2008, 04:52 AM drinking milk is just a mith. I have never been a faan of milk and never broken anything. This year i landed on my sholder from flipping forward on a big jump on my snow board. and last sunday while doing a kickflip my fot slipped of my board an literary landen on my ankle. my fot was so twisted, twise the size and it hurt like hell for a few seconds and then past. kouldnt walk on it though. I also got delirious and lauhed the whole way to the hospital. After some x - rays they said it only was sprained.
Luckaly for me i had a guardian angel or something because my soholder popped back in plase by it self and god alittle spraind and my the same with my fot. I think that exersising the musels around week points of you body is much wiser thatn drinking milk and thinking that you wont brake anything. like ankles, wrists, shoulder and so on.
PS: i live in Norway where the statistics sa we drink to moste milk in the world, and still Norway leads the statistiks for people with skrawny bonestrukrure.
hope you dont brake anything!!
standard 06-12-2008, 09:35 AM Never broken a bone, but I jacked up my ligaments in my ankle skating. It hurt like mad, and the crutches were pretty bad, too. Lots of rawness under the arms.
Daniel Jones 06-12-2008, 02:14 PM It hurts pretty bad, but mostly it's just like the pain lasts a long time.
emerica sk8er 06-12-2008, 05:01 PM i broke my arm and it hurt for like 2 seconds then shock whent to place and it just tingled.
twitchy_foot082 06-12-2008, 05:09 PM I have never broken a bone. I drink milk everyday that probably helps.I thought i broke my knee a coulple weeks ago. it was like a minor highper exsteinstion thing or something though.(thank God i didnt break it). Tips on how not to break bones are drink milk and do not put your hands out to break your fall no matter how much you think it will help you will just wind up breaking your wrist or your arms. Learn how to roll out, it absorbs the shock and makes it hurt a lot less.
MysterySk8er3 06-12-2008, 05:28 PM I have only ever fractured my foot before. It wasn't so much that it hurt it was just the realization of what happened. I thought I broke it at first. I have also broke my thumb before and didn't know it. It didn't hurt all that bad so I figured it would go away. Now I am stuck with a messed up thumb that is wider then my other one and it only bends down about half the way that my other one does.
donthateiskate 06-13-2008, 06:28 PM i've broken a bone, but i was like 5 and it wasnt from skateboarding. it still hurt like hell though. so far i havent broken a bone from skateboarding, i pray i never will.
