In my opinion it's always better to support your local shop rather than a big business skate shop like zumiez. They're just in it for cash.

Your local shop is in it to support the local scene, and make some cash along the way.

If your local shop has what you want, buy it from them.

If not, see if they can order it for you.

If not... then you can resort to zumiez (or another shop the next city over.. )

:p

no. if you like zumiez then fine.

its just skateboarding. you buy from the store you wanna buy from. and if people give you sh!t be like "yo! zumiez use to be a local skateshop too, then it just got popular."

Well, I always think its better to support your local shop, you might as well buy from wherever you want. Usually, the local shop is just trying to support the skating scene, while Zumiez doesn't care about anything but the money.

I buy stuff from Skatewarehouse sometimes because my "local" shop (or closest thing I've got anyway) is usually really expensive. Although today I got a KILLER deal on a couple hoodies. $7.50 each for a cool Etnies hoodie and an Emerica hoodie I liked the looks and feel of. Freakin' cool. I bought a lot of stuff from locally owned Surf shops back in Florida when I was on vacation last week (I used to live there). I support local if I can afford to.. you know? But my "local" is an hour and a half away so whatever.

Local to where?

Support your local shop(s) all the way!

it was originally made by some surfer i believe in 1978. i guess it just picked up popularity.

everything starts off small, just like mcdonalds.

so i mean, if your local shop went big, would you stop buying from their because its a huge company?

local is definately the way to go. a local shop is more than just a shop, you can hang out, chill with the guys who own it, practice your flatground. and most local shops care alot more about the skating like if you don't got cash but you need hardware or something, they'll hook you up so you can skate. a while ago my friend broke his trucks and went to our local shop and they gave him pretty good used trucks for free

As a small shop owner, I can tell you...there's is not much money in selling skate hardware...! Boards, trucks, wheels, bearings, bolts, risers, and tape only serve 1 main purpose - to allow people to skate - as opposed so business owners can make tonnes of cash. Sometimes locals can't afford to buy gear as they need it, so I will usually hook them up. I even make kids do stuff like mow my lanw or wash my car if they can't pay me back. No internet store can offer that.

If the the locals don't have gear to skate, then the scene would not even support the shop staying open at all. Likewise, if the locals bought their gear from somewhere else, the shop would not be able to stay open.

Finally, local shops usually put on comps, demos, and other events for the local skate community. So there are other reasons to contribute to your local shop.

But, as Berishman mentioned above...DON'T FORGET - if your local shop doesn't have what you want in stock, there is a damn good chance that they can order it for you.

In answer to the original question - try and look at the big picture, rather than think about immediate monetry savings. In the end, do what you think is morally the best.

There are morals in buying boards now?

I usually just go to the nearest shop and buy what i need, get out, and skate...

Quiksilver or Fly (local chinese one)

whichever closest is cool

What is it with kids posting comments like this? Did you even bother to read the post. I suppose you just read the last line and thought "gee, I've got something redundant I can say about that".

Everything we do in life is governed by our own principles of right and wrong....including the integrity we extend each time we decide to buy a consumer product. If you decide to buy your boards from some capitalistic online moneypig, and then your local shop that puts on comps and lets you skate on the only mini ramp in town shuts down...I bet you will have a reflective moment of remorse.
