Here's a recent article from The New York Time's Business section. Tony Hawk talks about his ''frequent flying'' status, and how even HE can't get a board pass security. Funny thing is, he usually just throws it in the trash can at the airport...so if ya time his flight right, you just might be able to snag his board for FREE!!

That's why you always have your Es carry on board bag with you. hahah

But seriously, that's lame, not even letting Tony Hawk carry on his board....

Only certain airlines don't allow skateboards. I hope you guys don't misunderstand..

You're right E, Nwa/Delta at this moment allows skateboards, others do also. Times are changing though, you might have to pay extra for excess baggage, including carry-on. Hope all skaters stay cool, it is usaully not the TSA's (airport security) fault, they get new rules almost every day. Some ticket agents will let you put your board in your checked baggage. Last year a bunch of skaters(T. H.'s Secert Skatepark Tour) went thru here(Memphis) with no hassles.

Well I don't blame airlines for some rules, like that time there was the discovery of an attempt to bomb someplace.. I don't remember now but it was serious.

Thats messed up, I'd be like, you don't know who i am do you? thats weird.
Of all of the flights I've been on, and I've been on a lot of flights, they let me take my board as a carry on. never even say a word about it. hell, half the time i skate around the lobby and the place and nobody cares. maybe im lucky or something?

LMAO, I guess you could sneak all the items you need to make a bomb in a 9 ply board of wood and 55mm wheels.

I brought mine with me to Key West, but then again, I had it in my HUGE Luggage Bag, and it made it from here to there and back. I think you'll be alright man, but just to play it safe, don't bring your ''good'' one, lol!

Btw, they have some GREAT spots to rip there! In the middle of the ''meeting area'' (cause I don't remember its name), but where all the sideshows go on, there are stairs and waxed ledges galore. Its a skatefest in that little section!!

You guys could always put it in your luggage bag and check it in...

no hassles

...or you guys could look on the airline website? They usually say whether they allow skateboards on the plane or not. They also have customer service, just call and they'll answer.

AlmostaSkater14
06-11-2008, 07:30 PM
or just try and quietly put it on. i always keep it like right against my leg. and i hold it griptape facing out. looks stupid, but matches better with jeans. just don't make it too obvious that you have it any they won't care. i once was waving it around and they got all omg omg you can't that here! on me. but my mom will never settle for something she dislikes, so she got me out of it haha

Elemental106

Most airlines put your carry on baggage and other baggage through the x-rays. If they see the deck and know they aren't allowed, they will tell you so.. and then you'll be screwed over :( so it'd be best to call or check the website.

AlmostaSkater14
06-11-2008, 08:19 PM
True true. Maybe throw it a different way when their not looking or something? be like, he look over there a thief! and then get it through. its weird though, they never even tell me that my board counts as a carry on. i have a huge back with me and my board and still its all good.

Elemental106
06-11-2008, 08:47 PM
Oh no noo, the board doesn't count as an entire carry-on(since you are only allowed to have one carry-on bag), it's just considered an accessory to the carry-on (haha I'll call it that). It's just that some airlines don't allow it; afraid the board will hit someone or something on the flight, could cause problems.

AlmostaSkater14
06-11-2008, 08:53 PM
i suppose. still a carry-on thigamajig. i just put it up on the overhead things. people always get like jumpy when i take it down and stuff. beets me why though.

Elemental106
06-11-2008, 09:06 PM
BAAHA I know why.. lol incase you lose hold of it, once it falls.. it'll hurt like a ***** if it hits someone in the head or something.

why wont he just buy himself a private plane? :D

cause things like that aren't sensible, what would be sensible is if when he was working with big companys there jets flew him, but the thing is people like hawk know they have to save in case something happens

thats retarded
I took my skateboard on the plane with me on my trip to Hawaii
it was with me at all times
people just kept staring at me like if they knew me or something it was weird

^ hahahahahahahahah
yeah but you can still hit people on the head with it

gah european airports are sooooo obsesed with security, once I had this guys go through my whole bag cause it was so full he couldnt make out what was in it on the x-ray machine, but I mean... I was a 12 year old girl. he even opened my pencil box and school folder and all : (

WHAT DID I SAY EARLIER, basiclly athletes like tony don't buy things like that cause they can't be sure of their future, so what they do make they put away in case of an accident which causes a loss of income

i first saw this post the day before i took a plane to las vegas and it made me super paranoid about bringing my board, but i did anyway and it was no problem. i just walked through security with it in my hand, and when i got on the plane put it above me and it was all good. :)
