Greetings from the Northland!

I'll make this brief because i've been banging my head against a wall for weeks trying to be specific with regards to information i'm desperately trying to leach from people who know

I'm a 34 year old headbanger who would love to get back into skating... i only rode those old Natas panthers back in the day and after seeing what the hell people are spending on them now i was left searching for alternatives.

I managed to get a couple uncut blanks designed by Bob Merriam and David Friel which have the old school spoon concave but the patterns that i was sent look like the reissue designarium Natas which has the HUGE NOSE

This is not what i'm after. I can't afford to spend $1000+ on a 20+ year old piece of wood that honestly could SNAP at any time.... so i need some help

Does anybody here have an old Panther they can measure for me?

I basically need:

1. the overall length

2. the width at the widest part

3. the length of the nose from the tip to the center of the front truck bolt holes

3. the length of the tail from tip to center bolt holes of rear truck

4. the wheelbase, from the center of the inside truck bolt holes

With those numbers i can adjust the pattern i got to get me back on the street.

ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED !

I managed to snag a pair of lightly used Indy 169's off ebay, as well as a set of Santa Cruz Bullet 66's with swiss bearings... i had that stuff mounted on a misprint Natas kitten i got on ebay last year, but the deck is just too small for me so i'm off searching to find the measurements of the full size version so i can build it myself and not have to take out a 2nd mortgage!!

I have no clue, But this looks like a pretty traditional style: http://www.blankdecks.com/decks/old_school.htm
It had some measurements on it.

That looks like one of those "MOOSE" blanks you can get on ebay.

I have one. (mine's clear though)

They are a really mellow ride suited to a bowl but not much else. They aren't very stiff with not a lot of pop. (which is the exact opposite of an old Natas)

Trying to ollie on it is a real chore.

Here is the stuff i got the other day. The original press for the Natas has been destroyed but these guys (Bob Merriam and David Freil) got together with some old riders and came up with a concave that is very true to the old mellow one found on the SMA/SC Natas'... these were pressed in Wisconsin and are really high quality. Nice and stiff.

The pattern is just off (really looks like the kick nose version featured on the Designarium reissue).... so i need to tweak it.

It also has new school truck mounts which confuse things for me even more.

Doh!... looks like i have to wait a few more posts to hotlink an image....

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy into the modern skateboard industry? Just a suggestion.

Easier? Sure. There are 2 skateshops in town.

...and from reading/researching online over the last few weeks i realize that the whole "blank deck" thing is a reall hot topic .... but for those of us who learned how to ride on a certain style of board, and prefer an old school approach - there are two options:

cough up serious dough on an old school deck that hasn't been beat to death

or

find a suitable blank and try to repro your old fave yourself

I'm attempting the latter, because i just dont have the money to compete with "collectors"

A new school deck really isnt usefull to me. Ive tried them and they don't suit my style (yes i'm already an old fart at 34)

My goal here is to hopefully find smebody with an old NATAS, get the measurements, and then buy a few more of these great uncuts so i can make enough decks to last me the rest of my life... hopefully not having to go through this again :-/

Klyniss - isn't the deck with the smaller nose the one that was brought out with a kitten panther playing with a ball of yarn and a bottle of milk? I'm pretty sure they called it the mini Natas? That is my all time favourite old school deck of all time!!!

If this is the one you are talking about...a mate of mine has one...it's likely I could get the measurements for you. Let me know if this is the one you are referring to.

Nope. I actually have a Natas Kitten - got it dirt cheap because it was a misprint (no graphics) .... it smaller than a Panther, not a LOT but enough that it doersnt feel right to me... it measures roughly 9.75" x 30".. i think the Panther was around 10.5" x 31" ??

I wish it didnt make such a big difference, but it does. I feel clausterphobic riding it.

BTW, the skullandbones forum looked promising, but i ended up getting jeared by some guy who apparently has nothing better to do....

I got a hold of Skip who said he would make me a cut-out unfinished deck with the truck holes predrilled... just waiting to hear back about $
I dont have tonnes of cash right now, and to be honest my patience is wearing kind of thin, trying to find info that for some reason is proving really difficult to aquire.

Ok, sorry I can't help then.

If anyone knows where I can get one of those Natas Minis with the kitten, please let me know.
