View Full Version : Is the world ending?

A couple of churches I went to talk about 'the end times'. They say (meaning the pastors and preachers and prophets) that the 'end times are near and there will be something called the 'rapture'. It means a great amount of joy, not in religious context but the pastors say it means that the true Christians will be 'taken up by the wind' and ascend to heaven while the others stay behind and really horrible stuff happens on earth.
Has anyone heard about stuff like this and do you believe it?

People said the world would end in 2000/2001. We're still here nearly a decade later...

Yeah I know, my parents said it was because God was being merciful because a lot of Christians were not ready yet.

i dont care if the scientist think the poles will become uber magnitized or whatever crap theyre saying.
thing is..
god isnt gonna let anyone know a spesific date when the world will end.
then it will be all,, 'oh raptures next week, i should probly study up on this christian thing'

we dont know if the world is ending soon,
in the bible it says he will return to judge the living from the dead
or 'the christians and the non believers' in other words.
nowhere in the bible does it say when the rapture will occur.
so we will never know,
and god wont allow us to know

The Bible says no one knows the hour or day.

That's after Christs return, not before. During the 7 years (I THINK).

Fruitcake indeed.

As mr. awesome clearly stated, God wouldn't give even the most VAGUE hint of what time all this would occur.

It is supposed to happen when no one expects it right?

Even if I'm horribly mistaken, and there IS a God.. It isn't happening in your life time dude.

You just want to feel like you're a part of something big.

Give it up, it isn't happening.

maybe, but IDK, also in the bible, it says that a day is like a million to the lord and a million like a day (or sumtin like that) so one generation could be millions of years.

Izzy is not a fruitcake, he seems to be the one person in this thread that is aware of what is actually happening. Israel is being rebuilt. It is rapidly advancing in all fields, especially in technology, and has been for several years.

The USA is on the verge of complete chaos; nations are fighting over oil, massive earthquakes are ravaging the other side of the world - crime and moral decay is rampant more than ever, throughout the entire world.

Mankind is bringing upon itself its own end. The end of the world is at hand - If not by God, then by man himself.

All of them not all in history. Israel was reestablished as a nation in 1948, fulfilling the prophecy in Isaiah 66 and in Mat. 24. That was something lacking for a long long time. Not to mention all those things are much worse now than ever. The Bible says that you will not know the day nor hour, but you will know when it's at the door.

^Word. Izzy is a great guy.

I've been listening to this radio station lately, with a pretty respectable pastor who takes calls in and answers people's questions. Well a few days ago he said something about the end days which kinda shocked me, a (imo) decent pastor one whom I respected and looked up to just declared he knew the date of the rapture.

I'm in no way saying I agree with it. I'm just pointing out that I've heard a good pastor claim he knows rapture is comin in 2011. That's a huge claim, if false then he's considered a false prophet. Somewhere in the Bible I think it says if someone makes a prophecy and it does not come to pass, he is a false prophet.

but he said something about October 21 and may 21 in 2011..

http://www.familyradio.com/graphical/literature/rapture.html

It'll be very interesting to see how it turns out.

We all know about the stuff going down in the middle east, coincidence? hmm...

Tyler Self

The Bible recognizes prophets, and that all prophecy comes from God. But if you are wrong, even once, then you are a false prophet, because the prophecy couldn't come from God.

Don't know about y'all, but I'll have plans for the future beyond any of these supposed "end" dates. If I were a betting man I'd have my money on the dates passing without incident.

I think the people who make these silly predictions want the world to end. They're so caught up in how the world doesn't fit their ideas about the way it "should" be that they aren't enjoying themselves. So, they wish oblivion on everyone. Sad, really. I'm having a good time, and the gloom and doom folks are trying to spoil it for me. Get off of my cloud, downers!

First off yes the world is coming to an end but it wont explode or anything like that, second, their actually is no rapture, its not in the bible, we got no exact clue what gods plan is to protect his people but he will.

Since the time of Christ people have thought that the end was extremely near. Although I think it is obviously getting closer (even if I didn't believe in the Bible, I would believe the end was fairly close) The Bible says that we cannot and will not know the time that it is going to happen. I generally do not concern myself over it much at all. I believe that Christ will return but I do not know when.

uh just FYI, its religious people that say the world is ending, not scientists. people think the world is ending 2012 because the mayan calendar ends then, which i would consider a scientific explaination at all.

si si good point,
but even though all the signs of it are appearing today, gods timeline and our timeline are extremely different.
his timeline is infinate, our timeline is about 70 years average.

a short time for god in his eternal timeline is a very long time in our timeline.

you know what im saying?

"Rapture", when used in eschatological terms, is an English word used in place of the Latin word raptus; taken from the Vulgate, which in turn is a translation of the Koine Greek word harpazo, which is found in the Greek New Testament manuscripts of 1 Thessalonians 4:17. In many modern English translations of the Bible, harpazo is translated; "caught up", or "taken away".
so yes the rapture is in the bible. with small vague clues probably

well, in the bible god says that he will not give us a specific date, so there is a lot of controversy over that, but he does give tell us he will give us signs that will tell us the season it will occur. so as you can tell i do believe in the rapture, and to clarify it a little more for you, heres a quote explaining it.

"What is The Rapture?"

The Second Coming of Christ will occur in stages. First, He will remove all Christians from the Earth, to protect them. This is called "The Rapture." The term comes from the Latin verb raptare, and the Greek word harpizo, both meaning "to be caught up" or "to be snatched up." Jesus will "snatch us" out of harm's way.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 [15] According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. [16] For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. [17] After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

"What takes place after the Rapture?"

After The Rapture, God will begin executing judgments against unbelievers, during a period called the Tribulation. At the end of the Tribulation all nations will attack Israel, and Jesus Christ will physically return, leading the armies of heaven. At the Battle of Armeggedon they will destroy everyone who is not a believer. Then Satan will be bound, and Jesus will set up the Millennial Kingdom, headquartered in Jerusalem. Jesus and the saints will rule over the nations of the Earth for a thousand years. During this period there will be people born who are not loyal to Christ. However, it usually will not be obvious. Therefore, at the end of the thousand-year period, God will release Satan and let him tempt those who inhabit the Earth. A large group will take up arms against the Lord and be defeated. Then, Christ will judge all who have ever lived, giving rewards to some and punishment to others. Those who were "destroyed" will be cast into the Lake of Fire, i.e., Hell. After that, God will destroy heaven and Earth because they have been polluted by sin. He will create a new heaven and a new Earth, put those who were saved on the new Earth, and rule it forever.

I thought the christian "god" loved all and will always love all no matter what. Yet he makes all of the "wrong" people that don't believe in his almighty powers suffer and "burn in hell". People need to get the story straigh becuase i'm one confussed son of a *****.

Tyler Self

^^Instead of looking at God as 'tossing people in hell' (which is a Muslim concept), instead view it as that "if someone doesn't want me, I will give them a place without me."

Whatever happens in this place is anyone's guess.

Well guess what Christian Izzy(I'm Agnostic Izzy), you are going to be waiting FOR EV ER...ok...seriously so many times religious dates have been set, and well nothing ever happens...

I don't get why people can't just have faith in themselves, and happiness, and morals, without this bible(basically boo of fairy tales about morals), and this random guy Jesus...

EDIT: Ok another thing, this rapture thing sounds like god is just coming down and ripping us all apart....

Now let me get this straight, just because I didn't follow this book, I'm going to burn in hell for the rest of eternity....well I'm sorry, it sounds like bullsh*t...I have been morally right, done everything in my life in a good way, lived independently, had my own ideas, expressed views openly, andd tried to better people around me......but JUST because I dont follow this little black book....I'm a goner...

...I'm sorry but, unless I have some strong surge in some kind of faith thing, somehow(because I'm open, but I'm more of a science man, and I have read the bible, and well it just doesn't seem right, and nothing has been shown to me that seems like its real), then I'm staying with just myself...as I always have been just living morally right and just.
