View Full Version : Razor Tail
fallenNJzero 06-24-2008, 06:52 PM Note: I DONT manual, tail stop etc. specifacally becuase i didn want to get razor tail on this board
i searched the forums and google and nothing really gave me what i wanted. there is one forum on here thats what i need but it was a damaged archive that pathtek brought up. so, the question is "how can i fix razor tail?"
i really need to know, ive only had my zero for 3 weeks at most and my tails already sharp enough to cut my skin (thats my test, like soft, rough, sharp, razor). i skate everday and i need a durable board. i thought zero was durable...apparently not enough for me, anybody know VERY durable boards? and im saying extremely durable. so how can i prevent razor tail? how can i fix it? and what boards have good durabilities?
ISkateZero 06-24-2008, 06:53 PM You can't fix it.
Prevent it by not tail stopping.
You can always use your nose at the tail also.
Highawk 06-24-2008, 07:03 PM It's an unfixable curse of skating with a peice of wood.
Be more careful when your skating. Don't tailstop, cauious about your tail sliding on the ground. stuff like that helps to lengthen the life your board/tail.
cha-BANG 06-24-2008, 07:06 PM yeah ISZ over here kinda beat me to it, i was going to say the EXACT same thing except the 3rd line. i can't STAND using my nose as my tail, unless i'm going fakie or nollie.. i mean..it just doesn't work for me. it looks weird, for one, looking at your tail, all screwed up, riding up high on the nose..and it just feels like garbage. it gets more pop on fakie tricks though, not so much on reg ^^
have you been practicing manuals? that's the biggest way to get it. also, landing upside down on your board (frequently happens to me cuz i've been learning harder tricks) kinda does it a lot as well.
i'm not really sure, i guess you can just prevent it by not tail stopping like ISZ said, and manuals junk it up, so practice nose manuals or something, and when you're better at manualing, it won't happen as much. just keep practicing, and take good care of your board.
phlap 06-24-2008, 07:14 PM Did me & FLB make this thread for nothing? (http://www.skaterscafe.com/showthread.php?t=46059)

street skater 06-24-2008, 08:10 PM If people mess with you atleast you have a weapon now that can cut.
Bakerx4xLife 06-24-2008, 08:13 PM stop with ur foot
fallenNJzero 06-24-2008, 09:17 PM stop with ur foot
i do. and thats why my last shoe had a 2x2 inch hole in the sole =]
IRideGirls47 06-24-2008, 10:58 PM put some grip tape on the bottom right there and that will not happen
libtech4life 06-24-2008, 11:24 PM put some grip tape on the bottom right there and that will not happen
I've always been thinking this, do you mean like right under the tip of the tail? or were you talking about his shoe?
POUNSTER 06-25-2008, 04:02 AM get a dgk or enjoi
flatthump 06-25-2008, 04:34 AM Note: I DONT manual, tail stop etc. Then your tail should be blunt.
Did someone sneak in and sand it down in the middle of the night? :)
lareaper 06-25-2008, 09:01 AM I got a darkstar armorlight. I had it about... a year and a half now? and it is just starting to get messed up now. Also, are you a newer skater (like workin on ollies, manuals, pop shuv its) or more experienced (tre flips, heel flips, lazers ect.) and what style are you? I mainly ride vert and minis, so I dont ollie as much and stuff. It depends on alot of stuff...
street skater 06-25-2008, 10:17 AM Maybe you skate on the road cause there alot rougher then sidewalks etc.
Elemental106 06-25-2008, 10:25 AM It could be from when you are popping your board for a trick, you scrape it against the ground. There's not much you can do about it, and please do check out Phlap's and FLB's guide.
hokus pokus 06-25-2008, 10:32 AM go back in time...way before my time... get some tail skids or whatever they were called... you will have a plastic bubble on the bottom of your tail, but you wont get razor tail
.snOWFalls. 06-25-2008, 10:51 AM dont pop your board. that's the only thing that works for me.
It's hard cause when you practice new tricks you stand their poppin all day.

..... that doesn't make sense :P
you have to pop your board in order to make the trick. Some tricks don't require poppage though.

what? you kids still doin ollies to get off the ground? Seems like an awful lot of effort, the stomp, board bashes ground, springs up into air, gotta straighten it out, do some trick then finally land.
I developed my own ollie which is far superior to the old-school ollie

..you don't only pop your board for the ollie...alot of other tricks need popping, so "don't pop your board" isn't an option in here unless the kid doesn't want to learn pretty much the bunches of tricks that involve popping that street skating consists of.
EDIT: and there's really no such thing as getting something that won't have razor tail after you skate it for a while lol, you can only temporarily prevent it a bit....that is, you won't get razor tail if you basically just cruise around on the board and don't drag it to stop.
.snOWFalls. 06-25-2008, 11:24 AM ok, here's what i do.
i stomp on the nose and the tail with the exact same force until they are horizontal with the board, then i jump and get my feet out of the way and the board propels into the air setting me up for all kinds of tricks

lol this kid isn't asking about how to do an ollie or how you do your ollie, he's asking for ways to prevent razor tail or why he has razor tail, etc.
..and by the way, when you stomp on the nose or tail to set up a trick, that's called popping it.. and your explaination kind of doesn't make sense because I noticed you said you stomp on the nose AND the tail with the exact same force? The board isn't going to go into the air that way, did you mean to say the nose OR the tail?
By the time my tail gets to its razor sharpest, I've pressure cracked the board to the point that it has lost its pop and needs to be replaced anyway. Or around that time I'll land something wrong and break/crack the board near the back bolts.
.snOWFalls. 06-25-2008, 11:35 AM oh,
this really should be in the off topic section then.
unless he's talking about the griptapes on the other side of it

Why would this be in the off topic section? He's talking about razor tail on a skateboard that you get from skateboarding in general, and this forum part is called "General Skateboard Chat"
He's not talking about grip tape "razor tail" unless he's doing some funky darkslides or something. I don't even think grip tape razor tail exists.
lol are you confused or something?
.snOWFalls. 06-25-2008, 11:45 AM ahh, i'm confused, i'm think i'm in the wrong thread.
anyway, to the poster, keep trying and if you're still having probs pm me for some help

lol I fink you're in the wrong thread too.. he's not having problems with tricks, he just doesn't like the razor tail.
