View Full Version : Lords of DogTown.
ForumSkater 06-25-2008, 02:53 AM "Lords of Dogtown tells the radical true story behind 3 teenage surfers from Venice Beach, California, who took skateboarding to the extreme and changed the world of sports forever."
This is a pretty cool movie. This is about the history of skateboarding. It tells the story of the Zephyr skate team, and how they revolutionalized skateboarding. It's based on 3 teens, Tony Alva, Stacey Peralta, and Jay Adams. Anyway, it takes place in the '70s and it shows the gradual increase in the popularity and more advanced gear in skateboarding. It doesn't go up until modern skating though. It's a pretty good movie, and had some historical events in it.
There was one part where they met Tony Hawk before he was even skating. He was in a space suit and met the 3, and he asked to try one of their boards, and he fell lol. It was funny. Anyone else seen it? If you haven't, you should go out and rent it or something. It also shows the beginning of backyard pool skating, pretty much how vert started. The whole movie they use the old "banana boards" and a bit after the beginning, the first Urethane wheels. The movie goes on for a bit less than two hours, and I liked this movie overall. My rating, 8/10. You should watch it.
AlmostaSkater14 06-25-2008, 02:56 AM third one is Jay Adams. Man he was sick back in the day. I wouldn't really know. but footy proves it.
ForumSkater 06-25-2008, 02:57 AM OK thanks, I remembered it started with an "A", thanks.
AlmostaSkater14 06-25-2008, 03:00 AM oh and also, Tony Hawk had a cameo or whatever. He played the astronaut. Wasn't him before he started skating. He was like tiny then. Mad good movie though.
ForumSkater 06-25-2008, 03:06 AM Haha, what was your favorite part? Mine was when Tony Alva got punched in the eye at that competition, it made me laugh in excitement.
AlmostaSkater14 06-25-2008, 03:10 AM Yeah yeah that was funny. I don't really remember. Haven't seen it in a while. The end was pretty cool. In that kid Sid's pool.
ForumSkater 06-25-2008, 03:12 AM Yeah, too bad he died. Sid was a fictional character they made up to add to the story, right? Because they never mentioned a last name and I tried looking him up.
mazonemayu 06-25-2008, 03:49 AM Actually, Sid wasn't made up, he was a rich guy they knew who actually died of braincancer. However, I'm not sure his actual name was Sid
btw, they all do cameos in the movie
Skip Engblom : as the race starter at the Del Mar Event
Stacy Peralta : the director of the charlie's angels episode
Tony Alva : in Jay's house at the party
Tony Hawk: the astronaut
Jay Adams: I believe he was in jail at the time
its also not the "true" story of dogtown, but a semi-fictional version (but an awesome movie in all, imo)
if you wanna see the true story, check out Dogtown & Z-Boys (2001)
Tyler Self 06-25-2008, 09:04 AM ^^Actually, Alva did some of the skating in place of his character (especially at Del Mar) and Jay Adams was a man sitting on the couch when his character met the guy who wanted him to sing.
ForumSkater 06-25-2008, 01:30 PM Haha I remember that guy, he wanted him to sing some advertisement... ah man I can't remember what it was about...
iskateniketres 06-25-2008, 02:03 PM i liked the part when all they did was kickturns and got like 10s for it haha, but it was cool
AlmostaSkater14 06-25-2008, 05:00 PM Haha I remember that guy, he wanted him to sing some advertisement... ah man I can't remember what it was about...

and the documentary is really interesting. at first when i started watching it i was kind of expecting something different, but it turned out to be really interesting. it talks about the real story of the z-boys and theres loads of real good stuff in it, i wanted more it was too short haha
heroin skates 06-26-2008, 11:22 PM theres like a hour long documentary about it.. i saw it before the movie and it realy helped
but what i dont like about the movie is posers might watch it and say they want to skate to do all that (ect. "get laid every night")
choker 06-27-2008, 06:58 AM see thats what i mean the documentary is soo much better because it doesn't have cheesy lines like that or this whole OC drama bull****
