is retarded. Discuss.

lol naw i'll go into detail a bit.

According to EBMUD (East Bay Municipal Utilities District), we are running out of water. That's right. Running out. http://www.ebmud.com/drought/default.html. That's impossible especially when we have extremely complex filters and an ocean right there. I'm not sure if the people at EBMUD get employed without any qualifications, but obviously they all skipped 6th grade science and didn't learn about precipitation. Also known as rain. Whenever you shower, sweat, pee, take a ****, wash your hands, etc., the water goes to some big sewage plant. The water in such contents evaporate and come back down as rain, snow, etc. So yes, that brita filtered water is piss. But when water evaporates, ONLY water evaporates. Perfectly clean. So it really goes nowhere. EBMUD just wants gas money. If you research, the Earth has the same amount of water now as it did say, 20 million years ago, give or take a few thousand gallons from astronauts. I usually get a lot of crap for this, seeing as I dropped out of high school and people judge me, but often times I prove them wrong and they feel like ****:). But since the cafe is assumably mostly slightly intelligent, I hopefully won't get any crap about it and we can have a positive discussion.

EDIT: I forgot about the Science & Astronomy section, I think this would fit better there. If a mod could move it please..:icon_bigg

I concur.

That reminded me of a survivorman episode where he pisses in a cup in the desert and the water evaporates up to a piece of plastic so he could drink it

we can temporarily run out of fresh drinking water. if the population and/or population use of water exceeds the production of the area.

it will always refill but it takes time.

but in the u.s. atleast there are so many different filters and whatnot that we could simply use ocean water

yeah and the filters magically make it drinking water in a split second?

What happens when you eat bread faster than your mom can make it? No more bread until she's done making it.

home filters do but i doubt it would take more than a couple hours of a professional filter to filter enough for a state

then you are in the clear. I only said it was possible to "run out" of water temporarily if consumption is higher than what the filters can filter.

In North Carolina, we were in a really bad drought over the fall/winter. A lake by us that supplies the water was nearing completely empty. We ended up getting to around 30 days left.

Luckily, rain came back and refilled the lake.

If memory serves me right ocean water is expensive to make into drinking water, not to mention it takes a long time.

and sure the earth does have the same amount of water, but that doesn't mean the water all stays in one place... for example minnesota could have the same amount of water as california, but uh oh all of californias water moves (via clouds whatever) to minnesota. so minnesota now has twice as much and california has none.
