They destroy smaller shops business. In my nearest city there was a shop called Flatspot (it was in sidewalk a month ago) just up the street from route one. Route One came along with sales on all the time. Taking skaters money and putting very little back into the local scene. Then they've decided they've taken enough so they pack up and leave. Literally 4 months later, Flatspot has been forced to close as well leaving the city with one surf shop and an element shop (every decks £50 or over) to get skate supplies from. Also all the staff that work in R1 are miserable bastards.

Maybe its just skatings popularity thats waining but R1 are still evil.

Possibly, in the past skating's had plenty of periods of high and low popularity.

Anyway, skater owned shops FTW.

^^ Yeh it certainly has. I reckon its going into another dip, esspecially in England. Theres just no coverage of skating anywhere anymore. I find it hard to get my hands on a skate mag now where a year ago my local Smiths stocked 3 different ones. Now they only have Sidewalk and occaisionally Kingpin.

Theres also nothing to suggest skating exists on TV either. The last time i remember seeing a skater on TV was that BBC intermission thingy and that was like 2 years ago.

It seems to me like skatings popularity is being taken over by BMXing seeing as there are now more bikers than skaters at my local.

It sucks.

i know what you mean. but its not as bad as online-only shops because they have high street stores, plus the one that i visit employs mostly skaters. If i had a skateshop closer than 30 miles away then i'd stop buying from routeone though.

There not to skate in, just to go out in and stuff. Shame because they sound like really good shoes. Oh well least i'll look snazzy when i'm out and about instead of haveing some ****ty old DC's (which i'm now skating in).
