We have the NEW firmwire update for menu access in game now. Ive been waiting like hell for this. We are all aware that the 360 already had this, in fact the xbox had it but now PS3 owners can do it.

Well look at it this way, you can now send messages while online in COD as well as kill people while playing music from your console. Im going to test it out with Haze by playing Korn's song for the game called "Haze"

Its times like this Im glad I keep music on my external hard drive.

Well I just found out theres going to be 4 of them in some games but those games that will use this feature will mostly have Gold, Silver and Bronze color ones, but in some games if you get those 3 you earn a Platinum one.

Man if Sony was able to get all the past games to do this and have updates right now I would be rolling in them. Sadly the short game list thats using this or going to do updates I don't own. I could get Warhawk tomorrow but I don't think its my kind of game really.

Those are the only 3 that spark me, Im sure that MGS 4 will get it and since Sony and Rockstar go hand in hand Im certain GTA 4 will do this as well. I mean since Rockstar is all on 360 about having to use hd-dvds for 4 and saying their going to make GTA 5 on PS3 (even if its timed) then of no question we'll get it sooner or later.

Thats what "Mr. PS3" is here for. But really as an owner of all 3 systems I would still take the PS3 over them all. Updates make it all the better. I just think its weird I go the update like 4 hours ago now and I already know a ton about it. People on another site are crying about how hardly any games uses the new function when they should now the devs have to make the the patch first and that could take weeks.

Oh well Im about to crash I'll explore it more later.

No, you must exit the game before changing these settings.

No, but you can view your downloads in progress.

Currently only music stored on the HDD is accessible in games that support this feature. We’d also like to reiterate that Firmware v2.40 merely enables custom soundtracks. It’s up to developers to include this feature in upcoming games (or to patch existing ones).

No, cross-game invites are not available in this system software update. We are evaluating opportunities to expand on the new features delivered in 2.40.

Will trophies be mandatory for all games release here on out?

We are working with developers to ensure that Trophies are supported across the board in the future.

Where is each player’s trophy stat info held? I am going to upgrade my hard drive and I don’t know if the trophies will still be on my account if I earn some and then get a new hard drive.

Trophies will be attached to users’ PSN ID. Trophy data needs to be synchronized to the online account on PSN to be transferred to the new PS3 system.

Will the patch automatically allocate unlocked trophies according to your saved files or would you have to do it again?

No, Trophies aren’t retroactive.

Can we view PSN profiles/Trophies from a PC using a Web browser? Will there be an API for web developers to access the PSN data, so online profiles can be created?

We’re evaluating these opportunities to expand where Trophies can be experienced.

Can you only compare trophies with friends that are online?

As long as a friend has a PSN account, you can compare trophies with them regardless of their online status.

Is there a limit to how many trophies the devs can put set by Sony?

There’s not a limit on number of trophies, but there’s a value assigned to each trophy. Developers must balance out the trophies that are available to stay within an overall value based on whether the game is considered large-scope or small-scope. Essentially, a user that has unlocked every trophy in one game would have the same level as a user that unlocked every trophy in another title, all titles (depending on scope) have the same overall impact on a users’ level.

Well Sony took it down cause it was messing up systems for people (SkateThrash and myself are the only cafe members to get it that I know of right now) but Im sure that before the month is over they'll have the patch something like 2.41 or something. Your not really missing much cause only Super Star Dust HD uses it as of now

Theres going to be other games added to it like Im sure MGS 4 and GTA 4. But in order to get them you have to download and install the patch and then restart the game from the beginning to get them (after I got the medal in Uncharted for killing 50 people without dying and 100 headshots as well).

So far there is no in-game music due to the fact the since Rockstar maked GTA 4 they would have to make a patch that offers trophies and in-game music before you can use them in the 2.40 update.

But on my PS3 everything works like a charm, able to send messages and such in game so Im not sure how or why the update didn't affect mine or SkateThrash's ps3.

No they don't have it on the site anymore they took it down completely to fix the problem. Before it got to a lot more PS3 users, even a Sony worker said that they got a low volume of calls after the update about problems with it.

My 80 GB came 100% BC, i have been able to play any PS1 or PS2 game i have tried. I know i have mentioned it before but just thought i would say it again.

Ah, i see, i've only tried a few PS1 games so thats probably it, b/c all of them were bigname titles [thps2, twisted metal] stuff like that.

Good luck with that update, Sony hasn't put it back online so your still on 2.36 or something but Ive been able to play games from 99 like Warzone, Parasite Eve, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I know mine is 3 Playstations in one cause I have the chip that allows you play each systems games in mine. God bless the 60 GB!

Who said they were? Sony only added those things cause people wanted them on the console but you can have 100 people, I found an article back at its launch about the menu section. The patch only has in game menu access, in game music. Thats it but I do say everything is faster though but Sony will always give free online thats one thing, they don't ask for money to get more enjoyment out of their games from their fans.

Ive played on live and Ive played the PSN their the same thing really only thing different with online between PS3 and 360 is, PS3 has an internet browser, search bar now, and wi-fi the 360 doesn't. But again online will still be free theres no reason for them to charge people. They charged money for online on the PS2 (I think) and I don't know anyone having online for that (wish PS3 could play PS2 games online).

Well I never had a network adaptor nor the cord to extract saves from my PS2 cards (all 30 of them) on to my PS3. So I can live without playing PS2 games online. I don't even think any of my PS2 games HAVE online feature on them.

Looks alright but i will just wait for Guitar Hero 4, it is going to have a full band type thing with drums replicating an actual electronic drum set and supposedly the "most realistic guitar controller yet". You can also make you own songs and edit them within the game.

But i think they should make a Metal Edition Rock Band or Guitar Hero, with different styles of metal in it. Mainly for vocals and drums though.

Yeah, the online on Quake is the best part about it. She might not have a wireless router though, i don't and it sucks, i have to plug up everytime i get on online.

I will later cause Im just on lunch break but if you want wireless just buy something like a Linksys router, I got one for like $100 but its good cause my computer also has wi-fi.

Well I don't really know what to say, Sony is about to unleash a great looking RPG flood gate this year (enough to sell more consoles in Japan, really mainly cause FF 13 releases there I heard 11/15). On the other hand you could connect wirelessly and be online on your computer all from the same router at the same time.

so whats the latest so far on the updates problems, my mate... the only person i know that lives near me that got it before they took it down said the in game music wasnt working.

Buy an HD TV and get an HD component cable for your PS3 and you'll have some insane quality gaming.

You definatly want to go for something capable of running 1080p, in short terms the screen will progressivly be scanned every second to update colours and reduce flickering to gain the best picture.

With that the PS3 runs in 1080p, and BluRay is formatted in 1080p so it's overall best for high definition.

As for T.V, i would recommend SAMSUNG IN ANY SIZE. Being that in any size you go for the contrast ratio of colour is always larger on Samsung screens. The contrast ratio is determined to a ratio of one, i.e:

30,000:1
20,000:1
10,000:1

and so on. the higher the number to the left is, the most contrast between the brightest white and the darkest black is on the screen, therefore the screen with a higher contrast ratio can produce the best range of colours and give the best picture.


If you are wanting a good deal on a T.V ATM, go to Comet (we have the same deals all throughout England so it wont be differant for scotland) and ask for the Samsung series 6 in 40 inch, at the moment it's on deal at £799, or the Sony KDL40D3500

Again, the sony has a god contrast ratio, and thats at the same price, depends which you like more.

No worries mate. Just so you know too, the Samsung screens also come with a GAME MODE, which is selected from the SCREEN MENU, baisically it upgrades the colouring even more and insted of running the screen at 50 or 100hq, it amplifies it so that the flicker on the screen is baisically non existant for epic graphic output.


Monster HDMI's look exactly like this, with the HD1000 being the grey boxed one, and the best:

Wish I had a Sony 1080p tv all I have is a Sanyo SD but MGS 4 blows every game away in graphics on it.
