Recently I had to restore my computer, and I copied my files my my back up to my computer. When I try to run programs, they say that they need to be reinstalled.. how do I do this?

you either:
-put the correct cd in the drive & run it
-or run the installer of the app you want to reinstall, from a dir on your pc

Have you ever installed a program before? And give an example of a program that is telling you to do this. How did you restore your computer exactly?

Yes. Applian Technologies Replay Convertor. Itunes. I did a sytem restore, whiped everything on my computer out and put the basic Windows programs back on there. I put them onto my restored computer from backup files.

Why did you use System Restore if you were going to reformat your hard dive anyways?

Just curious... And where did you keep your back-up files exactly, and what kind of files are they exactly? Are they the complete programs or just file components? and how did you make these back-up files? If you completely wipe your hard drive and start from scratch, you have to actually re-install ALL of your programs again.

It asked me If I wanted to put all of my files in a backup file before I started, I think it;s just the components.

Do I have to download them again?

Before you started what exactly? Wiping your entire disk? How did you wipe your hard drive?
Merging doublepost
Well, if you "wiped" your hard drive using the Windows Disk rather than the BIOS (this is what it sounds like you did), then Windows simply backed up the components of your programs (such as saved profiles and stuff like that). Windows can't back up every program on your computer AND wipe it at the same time... Not really possible. If you wanted to back up your entire drive, you would have had to use a separate hard drive so you can later copy the entire programs after you reinstalled windows. So yea, you need to reinstall all of your programs, which means you gotta use the CD that came with the ones you bought and using the installer from the programs you downloaded. It's a *****, I know, but that's what you gotta do when you reformat.

No, not all bad. Sites use them to remember passwords and things you have done (such as this site when you click "Remember Me" before you login). Some could be bad, so check which sites they are from and delete ones you don't want remember what you have done there.
