you need a program that can keyframe, probably. like vegas, premiere, final cut.

Hmm...

Make like alot of the checkered things, then make a keyframe, then move it up and make a keyframe, and then add another set of the checkered under that so you can keep moving them up and key framing?

well thanks for the help everyone, i ended up making 4 copies of the same document except for i started with a different color, and i think it ended up pretty nice except the fully flared text shakes :( oh well :D here it is

Guys, you don't make animated .GIFs in after effects.

All you need to do is download a program, like Jasc Animation Shop 3, that allows for creation of animated GIFs. Then, you make new frames for each desired movement. Put them all together in animation shop, export, voila. So in your case, all you'd need to do is rotate the color layer by 90 degrees and create 3 frames.

Which you can do in photoshop aswell. Just to a limit thats all...
