K, so I'd like to run a little experiment, now in the past the athiests were asked by the christians to test their "faith" (or lackthereof) and open up their minds and pray, earnestly and wholeheartedly to god, and we did it (I did at least, and believe me I actually did, just to prove a point, though of course that wasn't what I was thinking about when I did it, because that wouldn't be very earnest now would it?)

So here, I'm going to ask you something.

Pray to me. One time, I took out an entire army of spartans with a rubber ball, a paperclip, and a Mcgyver action figure. Furthermore I guarentee, without any shred of doubt, to deliver the same success rate IF NOT BETTER, than that of your current god. So I ask you, open your mind, even if it's only for a few hours, and try this out just like we did, you might be suprised by the results.

Oh, I also skate.

If you do not have faith that God is real, and do not have faith that your prayer will come true, it most likely won't. I believe that is all that needs to be said. Call the prayers that I have had answered a coincidence, but I feel they were answered by a higher being.

I wasn't asked to pray and wait for something to come true (though I did wait a good while to help prove my point). I was asked to pray and feel god flow through me, and I genuinely did clear my mind of doubt, and say "hey, let's give this a shot."

Nothing.

Now, all I'm saying is, pray to something else, I only used me because it sorta helped emphasize my point, but it could be anything, I'm not sayin worship anything, but I'm saying say... ask a rock to help you meet the cute new chick at work, or ask a flower to help you land a new trick, and I'd even up the anti and ask god not to help you out on this one, as a control, so you can't say "god helped me and answered my prayer to help show me he is there." I'm not challenging belief really, I'm just saying that if you ask anything for the things you pray for, you'll have the same success rate if you truly believe in them. Try it, you might be suprised by the results.

So I'm not the only one who tried that. Back when =Z28= was big on telling people to pray to Jesus for guidance and all that. I figured why not, did with an open mind, not expecting to not work but not expecting it to work too though. I got the same result as you though.

The thing is, you were 'testing' God. You cannot just say, " Hey, let's give this a shot."

That is where many people are misled. God will help you, but you must accept him into your heart ( figuratively speaking of course, but I think you know what I mean ). I have had many prayers go answered and others go unanswered, but the ones that went unanswered I know I did not have much faith that it would happen. Sometimes though, prayers go unanswered anyway. Doesn't mean a God isn't there though.

exactly why nothing happened. you just tried to fool somebody who knows you better then yourself. "wait, how can he know me better then myself" - you ask? he knows your thoughts before you think it, your actions before you do them. he knows where your heart is mayne... you can fool yourself, but not God.

When I was little I prayed really hard so my grandpa wouldn't die, because that's what everybody in family told me I needed to do. Being little, I was like "hell yeah, these people tell me all I need to do is ask god to help me, and he will". I prayed, and I fully 100% thought god would answer my prayers. Then my grandpa died.

K, whether or not my asking god for help can be seen as valid, that's not the point, I'm saying try asking a tree, or your kitchen floor your next few prayers, and pray to god that he does not answer them. I can guarentee if you really think they'll come true because you asked the kitchen floor, they'll have the same success rate as if you asked god to.

The thig is, if you don't believe in God but you still pray to him just for the hell of it, no matter how much you say you're keeping an open mind, in your subconcious mind you are thinking "this isn't going to work" so it won't work for you. Same with if a christian prayed to a rock, he'd be thinking in his subconcious "this won't work" so it won't work for them either. The human mind is complex and even if you think you have complete control over every thought you have, you're wrong! because the most powerful thoughts that shape your personality are always there laying in the back of your mind where you don't even notice them.

So "believing" is something you "do" as opposed to something you "think" or are tangibly motivated to "feel?" It also sounds as if the believers here are attributing answered prayers to believing, as if all the people who didn't get their prayers answered just weren't real, genuine believers. Isn't that a nice thought? So, all those people who die from cancer despite their prayers just don't "believe" well enough so God decides not to listen. People who are lucky enough to survive cancer have God's ear because they're actual certified believers! Sweet deal. The richest, luckiest, most successful people must be gifted believers.

I don't deny it, but I still say that if you ask god not to answer this prayer, and ask a rock to, even if you're thinking "This won't work" it probably would as long as you believe in yourself.

See, when I dream about skating with deities, it's always Bhudda, and he always snaps his deck, and then like, pulls another out of a roll of fat and snaps it too. Guy's way too heavy.

I bet. Seeing Big Black's attempts at skating on Rob and Big were bad as it was, I couldn't imagine someone twice his size trying.
