Alright, question out to you christians there.

Can you tell me the story of Jesus in the most detail you can? Just checking facts here, I'm looking things over, and if you're going to ask, yes this is tied in with the "How did christianity spread" thread though I won't link the two just yet.

So yeah, can people tell me the story of Jesus, when did it happen (obviously around 0 AD) and who did what? I know it obviously starts with Jesus being born by the virgin Mary, but after that I'm a little shaky.

Pretty much I'm asking you to preach to me here.

I'll add some info, I can't remember everything so I'll say some basics....

He was born to the virgin Mary in the spring, around 25 years before AD yearline started.

When he died, the Christians went into hiding, and Apostle Peter(St. Peter) became the first pope of the Catholic Church.

Just two basic facts.

Peter didn't know it if so Vrait. He never claimed to be a leader. But on to what you asked, he was born of a virgin named Mary. He was a carpenter by trade. When he was about 30 he was baptized by John the baptist and the Holy Ghost descended upon him "as a dove," and God said "this is my son, in whom I"m well pleased." After that, I could go into detail, but I'll just say he had a ministry for 3 years in which he healed the sick, raised the dead, and did a bunch of miracles to spread God's message. He also had 12 close followers, named later apostles, and many other not-so-close followers. After his ministry he was crucified in the time of Tiberius Caesar on Mt. Calvary (also known as Golgatha "The Place of the Skull") and then rose again on the 3rd day, before ascending into heaven 40 days later. That's about it.

I'd really like to hear a ton about the ministry if you can, and his childhood, you sorta skipped from birth to 30, what happened in between? Just being a carpenter? Surely the son of god had some childhood experiences or experiences as a young man? Seriously, every detail you can lay down I'd love to hear on this.

I know you're asking for Christians to post in here but I have one question. You didn't happen to think of the movie Dogma when you thought of these questions I quoted in particular? I remember there being similar kind of discussion in the movie between the characters about that.

Resurrection and the Day of Judgment

15th-century Persian depiction of the Islamic Paradise. (Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris)

Iranian depiction of the Day of Judgment, 19th century.

Depiction of the Day of Judgment by Mohammed Modabber, 1897. A central doctrine of the Qur'an is the Last Day, on which the world will be destroyed and Allah will raise all people and jinn from the dead to be judged.

The Last Day is also called the Day of Standing Up, Day of Separation, Day of Reckoning, Day of Awakening, Day of Judgment, The Encompassing Day or The Hour.

Until the Day of Judgment, deceased souls remain in their graves awaiting the resurrection. However, they begin to feel immediately a taste of their destiny to come. Those bound for hell will suffer in their graves, while those bound for heaven will be in peace until that time.

The resurrection that will take place on the Last Day is physical, and is explained by suggesting that God will re-create the decayed body (17:100: "Could they not see that God who created the heavens and the earth is able to create the like of them"?).

One's eternal destination depends on balance of good to bad deeds in life. On the Last Day, resurrected humans and jinn will be judged by Allah according to their deeds. They are either granted admission to Paradise, where they will enjoy spiritual and physical pleasures forever, or condemned to Hell to suffer spiritual and physical torment for eternity. The day of judgment is described as passing over Hell on a narrow bridge in order to enter Paradise. Those who fall, weighted by their bad deeds, will remain in Hell forever.

The Qur'an specifies two exceptions to this general rule:

Warriors who die fighting in the cause of God are ushered immediately to God's presence (2:159 and 3:169); and
"Enemies of Islam" are sentenced immediately to Hell upon death.
Paradise
"O soul who is at rest, return to thy Lord, well-pleased with Him, well-pleasing Him. So enter among My servants, and enter My garden." (89:27-30)
Paradise (firdaws), also called "The Garden" (Janna), is a place of physical and spiritual pleasure, with lofty mansions (39:20, 29:58-59), delicious food and drink (52:22, 52:19, 38:51), and virgin companions called houris (56:17-19, 52:24-25, 76:19, 56:35-38, 37:48-49, 38:52-54, 44:51-56, 52:20-21). There are seven heavens (17:46, 23:88, 41:11, 65:12).

Hell
Hell, or Jahannam (Greek gehenna), is mentioned frequently in the Qur'an and the Sunnah using a variety of imagery. It has seven doors (Qur'an 39:71; 15:43) leading to a fiery crater of various levels, the lowest of which contains the tree Zaqqum and a cauldron of boiling pitch. The level of hell depends on the degree of offenses. Suffering is both physical and spiritual.

Being a Muslim does not keep one out of Hell, but it is not clear whether Muslims remain in Hell forever. Non-Muslims (kafir), however, will be punished eternally. A Muslim author on IslamOnline.net explains it this way:

"Ultimately, God will remove from Hell those believers whose sins were not forgiven nor atoned for by good deeds in their lifetimes, and they will then enter Paradise. The remaining inhabitants of Hell will stay there eternally." (Islam Online)
Other Muslim commentators, noting that Allah can rescue people from hell as he chooses, and that he is merciful and compassionate, have hypothesized that eventually hell will be empty. Alternatively, Hell can be seen as a place of progress where souls are instructed until they are fit to go to heaven:

"Life after death is actually the starting-point of further progress for man. Those in paradise are advancing to higher and higher stages in knowledge and perfection of faith. Hell is meant to purify those in it of the effects of their bad deeds, and so make them fit for further advancement. Its punishment is, therefore, not everlasting." (Muslim.org, an Ahmadiyya website)

this is what it said would happen at the end of the world (Islam point of view)

i don't see much a difference between how we can believe either with more sureness.

Now this is a story all about how
The world got twisted upside down
Now I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the savior of a place called the Earth

In West Bethlehem born and raised
Carpentering is where I spent most of my days
Chillen out maxin' relaxin' all cool
Walkin' across the water in my neighbor's pool
I got in one little crucifixion and the people got scared
But three days later I floated up in the air

Or something like that.

If people could avoid simply posting links, I want to hear what you can tell me about the story of jesus, and I really don't want to have to scan through an entire website for the general outlines of what happened.

there's a crucial part of Jesus' time on earth, when he rose from the dead it proves there is a life beyond this one.

all the ministries we know of are recorded in the NT gospels. read up from the source.

Well, about the best detailed account you'll get SY is in the book of Luke in the Bible. I would go into quite a bit of detail for you, but I gotta get some sleep so I'll be able to wake up for church camp in the morning. But as I said, open up the Bible and see for yourself. You'll be able to see in much closer words to exact than our paraphrases, and get many more details.

Alright, you guys are too lazy, but I think I've gathered enough info to help prove Jesus never existed. Thanks for partaking, I'll be making my thread sometime tomorrow.

edit: Oh and by the way, I'm already pretty well educated on the story of Jesus' life and death, and the spreading of christianity as well as the gospels. This was never for me, I wanted to know how much you guys knew. It's your religion after all, not mine.

How's the smashing going? I can't tell if you guys really think you've done anything of value. I know Z28 thinks he has... but he just took a passage from a gospel, which was one of the key points of my argument, that the gospels can't be considered valid, which he would have known if he'd read it, but being Z28, would probably have posted it anyways since his capacity for potentially thinking about something besides god being real, is well, non-existent.
