I know I am. Are you? I'm deathly scared of heights, it's probably my worst fear, and I'm not afraid to admit it. When I look down from a really high building I always get kind of dizzy and I feel like I'm about to fall even though there's a wall there about up to my chest.

You'll never get me to go on a roller coaster (I've been on a few big waterslides though, those are fun), and planes are even worse. I HATE planes. I hate it so much I don't know why. If you paid me 5,000 dollars to go skydiving I still wouldn't do it. Just, no. NO.

Anyone else here on SkatersCafe like me? Are you scared of heights and what's the worst experience you've ever had with them? I haven't really had any bad experiences since I tend to avoid them anyway lol. So, vote in the poll and post here to tell us if you are or aren't afraid of heights!

I'm pretty sure it's because you know that roller coasters are safe, fun, and controled/maintained whereas on rooftops it's all you, so that isn't really weird.

A while back I was tagging downtown. And there was a apartment building that had access to the top, my friend who lives there decided to go up with me. It was really high up but I didnt care and I did an awesome tag :)!

i thought i absolutely wasn't for sure... but then a few days ago i went off this REALLY high zipline.... maybe 40 or 50 feet in the air... it went from a tree on a small cliff into the water... ? that was the scariest thing i've done in a long time, so i think i might have a little bit of it, but besides that, heights don't scare me.

For me its hard to explain if I like 80 floors up in a building Im not. If Im 80 floors up and the floor is glass then yes Im scared of heights. Maybe its the thought of falling 80 floors with nothing to save me thats the reason. When I go to St. Louis I'll go up to the top of the arch to the west, though people say you can feel the wind sway it a little.. Doesn't the space needle have glass floors?

Skydiving yeah I want to do it, you could pay me $100 and I'll race you to the plane.

I do the same weird things on 100ft high i would do on flat ground.. i don't have real fears.. i'dd also want to get a black widow (at least a big hairy spider.. peferably not a poiton one) on my hand once :D

I fear drowing, but only If I was like in an enclosed space where I can't get out, that would be hell, like If you were wedged in a water slide and the water started building up on top of you, that actually happened to someone here and he died :|

I fear heights aswell, but not severely. I get nervous when I go on planes but it doesn't stop me getting on them. I almost had a panic attack one time because it was night when we took off and it was raining really bad and it was also thundering really loud and we flew right through the thunderstorm it was Sh*t scary.

I think final destination 1 gave me this fear.

I don't give much of a damn.. Planes are no problem at all.
But at the same time it freaks me out..
I'll answer yes i guess.

I HATE heights! I put on a game face to go on roller coasters, cause I love the speed and thrill of it, but I hate the climb! I don't do high rooftops, and you will NEVER EVER get me in a hot-air balloon!! Its not the height, it the falling to a ''splat'' that gets me feeling sweaty, and lightheaded haha! But I can do planes, parasailing, things like that cause I enjoy it, but stationary or very HIGH slow moving things, yeah, I need Xanex for haha

I don't really fear heights but I don't think anyone finds it too comfortable standing on the very edge of a roof or anything.

I've never been on a plane but I'm not scared to. I know you think I wouldn't know if I'd be scared but nah. I would go hanggliding and big rollercoasters if I could. Skydiving, eh, the only thing I'd hate it having the parachute not come out the right way.

I'm scared
But i have the weirdest way of being scared.

If one of my family/friends get's too close to a roof's edge or anything, I'd freak out, tell them to not get too close to the edge, and stuff.
If it was me, I'd handle it fairly well. I dunno why, it's always like that.

ah thats kind of sweet really its like you're worried for other people :]

I'm not scared, I'm fine being up really high but only if i'm attached to something. If i'm just sitting on a ledge with nothing to hold on to or whatever I freak out a bit at the thought that I can just fall any moment

Not sure about the space needle, but this new walkway that extends 20-30 feet over the grand canyon has glass floors. It's so sick.

And no, I'm not scared of heights. Sometimes if it's windy and we're mad high up, I'll skip sitting on the ledge, but for the most part, I can chill sitting on the edge of some cliff playing cards and be fine.

Is it a bad thing to occasionally have this weird urge just to jump off?

I have that too.. its really weird it makes me think I'm mad or something. allthough in my case its like to finish with my "suffering" haha like I'm on a ledge kind of nervous cause its so high and theres no protection, and I think how easy it would be to just jump.. weird.

Thats exactly like me!! i get so freaked out heights is probably my worst fear too, like im terrified. like my friends got me to go on the school and its like really tall and this sounds really stupid but i couldnt even look over the edge without leaning over to far like i lean when i look down so i had to lay down to look over the edge cause i didnt want to fall, it sounds so stupid but like im so scared you dont even know haha

:)

I don't understand why people get scared on rollercoasters. Fear wise, they don't phase me one bit, they never had. I've been riding coasters with inversions and such since i was 10. (I wanted to since i was 6, but I never was tall enough until I was 10, hahahaha.)

I used to be afriad of heights but then I just got tired of it. I forced my self to go on the biggest roller coasters and tall buildings if I was at one or what ever. Now I love high places. It kind of gives me an adrenaline rush that is awesome. I also really want to go sky diving in the future. Nothing like free falling from the sky for a couple thousand feet.

Psh. I was 9. It was on a boomerang type coaster, Y'know, the ones that crank you up backwards and then release you into a cobra roll and then a loop, and then it makes you do it all backwards. I remember crying as it started and wanting to get off, but once it was over I was all hyper and my love for coasters began :)

^Haha, this was the first one I rode:
http://cache.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/p3452.jpg

And I just went back and checked the date on the photo thing my mom took, I was 8 when I rode that, haha. I was 10 when I was finally tall enough to ride the rest of the coasters at that park, that's why I was thinking 10.

I am terrified of heights. The fear is so prominent when I see others acting to comfortable around them I get scared. I suppose it is the equivalent of having a gun to my head, I know it is fatal and that is what scares me. All it takes is for me to trip or some other freak accident and its all over, I suppose I just realize the repercussions. I did have a lot of the falling dreams when I was young also. I know they say you can't hit or some crap like that but I hit in almost every falling dream I had. I think that is the largest contributor to my fear of heights.

On a side note, I challenged my fear and went out on the New River Gorge bridge tour. You are basically on a 2 foot wide catwalk, and for those of you that aren't familiar with the bridge it is 876 feet above ground at the highest point. It was by far the most terrifying thing I have ever done in my life, I never let go of the handrails the whole walk. Also since it is an active bridge whenever traffic passed overhead the whole catwalk would shake violently. You are basically standing over nothing with only about 1/16" thick steel separating you from death. They mentioned if you were to fall it would take approximately 10 seconds until you hit. Although I was holding on for dear life and cussing the whole way, I am very happy that I did it.

Here is a picture of me with the look of pure terror on my face.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/Kowycz/Bridge.jpg

And here is a picture of the bridge itself. I was at the center point over the arch in the picture above.

When I go to St. Louis I'll go up to the top of the arch to the west, though people say you can feel the wind sway it a little... I felt it sway, it was pretty crazy knowing there is nothing under you.

My story is similar, I was 11, I didn't cry, but I was really scared. Then I got off the ride all hyped up. It was the boomerang at SFFT.
