Why is Canadian skateboarding different?

"Because our weather doesn't exactly cooperate, most Canadian skateboarders have ninja-like skills for finding dry spots to skate. A lot of skaters that really shred a ninjas, so our talent is full ****in' force." -Sascha Daley

"We have half as much time to skate in the year due to weather. It makes the skateboarders hungrier. Also, Canadian skaters are more versitile; they can usually skatye everything and don't have trouble dealing with rougher ground and rugged spots. Plus, there's not as much drama in Canada as there is in the U.S.; we're just chill-*** Canadians." -Ryan Decenzo

"It deffinitely makes you stronger. And makes it easier to go through certain things down the line as you grow because you're kinda used to struggling through the seasons, finding places to skate, and skating all sorts of not-so-perfect spots." -Pierre-Luc Gagnon

"We have to work for our spots, especially in the winter. It's a lot smaller up here, so eeveryone knows each other and helps each other out. That's what it's all about: the love of skateboarding." -Paul Machnau

These are just a few I felt like posting. What are your thoughts?

I really agree with the rough spots thing for around here, theres not alot where its smooth, at all. Also the weather, you can see me skating in my garage when its freezing cold outside.

Not looking for pity or anything, just want to know if you can relate and what you think of these quotes. Yay or nay?

Haha I remember reading through that, good stuff. Kinda bugs me how they took the going postal section out, ah well...

As for the quotes, as true as any I've ever seen, Canadian skaters are ninjas, and you look at our style in general compared to others, we definitely do some wierder stuff, it's influenced by the seasons. I see a lot more canadians popping bonelesses and wierd wallrides in spots you'd think it was impossible, as well as bringing in wood ramps to different spots people wouldn't even think were spots. We shred man, and I know Canucks that shovel flat spots in their driveway etc... just to do flip tricks.

When I'm living on my own, a basement with a concrete floor is a must, which is nice cause it's easy to find an undeveloped basement in a cheapish house, probably gonna try and build my own mini in my basement =P

Yeah, a basement miniramp would be killer. When I grow up, I'd either have my basement, or if I had alot of money, built a garage, half for a car, half a skate section for the winter and stuff.

And that mag is pretty old, haha, just thought like posting it. I really related to that when I first for the magazine and was suprised to find it.

Yeah, I've been getting SBC for 4 years now, I have every issue since Late summer 2004, and I've even had my letters published twice.

It's pretty much the same for british skaters, we have to deal with wet weather and rough ground too. :(

Wet? We'd take wet over frozen, which is really just wet and cold together.

Checkmate.

^ I'd rather have ice then wet. It's still skateable kinda and doesn't ruin your board as much, plus you can go ice boarding!

If you've ever skated on ice, you'd know it's nowhere near as skateable as you think it is, haha. Immidiate moment you ride over it, if it isn't completely even, your board starts slipping out and you'll fling it out and land on your ass and wrists, on cold hard ground. Not fun.
