This is probably the simplest tutorial you could do. The reason I'm posting is because when I use to do this for flyers I would end up making some arbitrary outline selections and croping the text properly. This is about 1000x times easier and I can just move the image to best suit the text.

So, say I take this image:

And place it inside some text...All you simply do is create your text layer, type whichever name you want (I'm using 'Times Square')

Now, either paste the image overlapping the text layer or drag it from another open PS window. Right click on the image layer, select 'Create Clipping Mask' and that's it...just move the text as you see fit

This was my result:

another way to do it is ctrl+click the text layer so it's selected, press ctrl+shift+I, go to the pic layer and press delete. but your way seems easier. i will try it

That looks pretty nice and its simple to do (even though I dont have photoshop xD)
Only the M looks a bit strange because of the white picture at the bottom.

Yeah, I just noticed that now, but I usually do these things on black backgrounds, they look amazing that way

I did it in MS Paint.

You make a text in a specific color. I used yellow. The background was white. Then make sure the backgroundcolor is yellow (which is done by right clicking on soemthing yellow in MS PAINT)
The i took the letters, and put it on top of the photo. The yellow became transparent and made the picture visable.. then i was done :)
