i was surfing through forums and i found this thing about decks and thought it was pretty cool. i hope it helps out people who post along the lines of "what kind of deck should i get?"

POPWAR- Keep there pop for a long time, medium concave, one of the favorite decks on Skaterscafe right now. (Highly recommended)

ELEMENT- Ok, by what everyone says on this forum, don't get an element. not as much pop as other boards, odd shapes, they have alot of concave but the feel of the board isn't right. (Not recommended).

FLIP- These decks have great pop and awesome concave...while they last. Tend to loose pop fairly quick, and are one of the weaker decks. (Moderately recommended).

TOY MACHINE- Great board, nice concave, awesome pop. They last for a long time and are pretty strong. (Highly recommended).

DARKSTAR- Not and overall great board, pretty good concave and pop while it lasts. Board gets 'soggy' after awhile. (Moderately Recommended).

BLIND- Not talked about much because people know these boards aren't very good. Ok pop and concave, but they loose them fast. (Not Recommened).

WORLD INDUSTRIES- Same as Blind.^

GIRL- Good mellow pop, nice concave, pretty good deck all around. A little on the weaker side, but not by much. (Moderately recommended).

THINK- Good deck. Nice concave and pop. Fairly strong. (Moderately recmmended).

ENJOI- They sound like a pretty nice deck to the people that owned them. Fairly strong, good concave and pop. (Moderately recommended).

BAKER- A good deck for the short time they last. Nort very strong, but nice pop and concave. (Moderately recommended).

ALIEN WORKSHOP- Great deck, nice concave, lots of pop, strong board that lasts a long time. (Highly recommended).

HABITAT- Good deck, nice pop and cancave. These decks are nice and stiff and will last for a long time. (Highly recommended).

CHOCOLATE- Good deck, same as Girl. Mellow concave, nice pop, pretty flxible board though, not very stiff. (Moderately recommended).

ZOO YORK- nice concave, awesome pop, stiff, not the longest lasting deck, but not close to being ******. I loved my Zoo York. (Highly recommended).

REAL / KROOKED / RASA LIBRE / ANTI-HERO - Deluxe distribution, what else is there to say? Superb construction, shape, pop, everything.

KAYO boards (DGK, Expedition, Organika) - Kickass boards. Performs superbly, and lasts a good while. only downside is finding bigger sized kayo boards... kinda hard to find a 7.75 or higher. (highly recommended)

For Enjoi, they don't last very long OKAY pop, which is lost fast, and good concave

Uncleleo
09-14-2005, 01:32 PM
^^^^ I have a Plan B now. I really don't like it that much. Here are the pros and cons:

Pro: - Nice shape
- Good Pop
- Good concave
- Nice feel

Con: - Pretty Heavy (can definatly tell the difference between my Plan B and my friend's Popwar also b/w my CCS and my Plan B)
- Doesn't slide so good

What blank deck would be best to get, I do want one from a well-known company. And dont want to pay over $40

Or I was thinking about getting a deck for like $40-$50 with graphics, the ones i am thinking about are... Popwar, Plan B, habitat, and alien workshop. Which one do you guys think. and what size should I get, I'm gonna be riding mini-ramps, a little bit on flatland, and very occasionally a park

^if you've got enough money to get a popwar then get one, there the best deck on the market at the moment in my opinion and are excellent quality, pretty good price too.As for the sizes it also depends on how long you've been skating, if your just a begineer i'd go for maybe a smaller deck (7.5-7.75) there also good for flips and freestyle. But if your more experienced then go for a larger deck (7.75-8.00) ;)

I've heard nothing but good things about the blanks on www.blankskateshop.com. Also, look for shop decks at a skateshop.

Just stay away from China blanks.

Baker is a pretty nice company i used to get their boards all the time but now i skate almost boards.

Most pop comes from the rider so you really can't say that a board sucks because it doesn't have any pop because someone could really like that board and be good.

i would recommend Darkstar or Enjoi ...
they are the best...don't believe anyone saying anything bad about them..
i had a flip deck which was good but not as good as a darkstar deck or enjoi..
Durability depends on how you skate...i land all tricks on the bolts and no problems with me with enjoi and darkstar decks...if you don't know how to land tricks don't blame the deck companies...

That would be true if the thread said just what board is the best, but the fact that each brand has the pros and cons about them makes them fact (wheather they are true or false.)

(And no ofense but you can shuv'it up urs about the blinds)
If you meant no offence then why did you insult him? Isn't that like me going up to you and saying "No offence, but you are an ignorant fool who has no life and your best friend is your hand." I don't actually mean that. I was just using it as an example.

And about the boards, since it is just about opinion, then he is in title to his own opinion free from criticism and insults.

I am sorry if I've offended you because of something in this post. If I have, I am sorry.

Man, I just read every post on this thread. From what I can see, a lot of people here display something called "blind pride" (no pun intended). Meaning, they have pride in something and refuse to see the flaws in it. Fact is, everyone has opinions, but some decks are just poorly made. For example, I could claim to love a Geo Metro car, but it would still be a terrible car. Blind, World Industries, Almost, and Enjoi are all poorly made decks. They are made from cheap wood, and are not shaped well. I'm sure you could find the deck of the same shape (if you like flat decks) made with higher quality wood. This is exactly why I don't go around flaunting some company that I bought, because I might find out that it's not as good as I think. Most of you kids that are Dwindle Distribution supporters have probably bought the same brand of boards ever since you started skating, and have it drilled into your head that they're the best. Fact is, THEY'RE TERRIBLE. Get over it.

What’s the actual meaning behind the name "Almost"?

Almost is the best thing because it’s the biggest excuse ever. "Hey, is your video part done yet? Almost. Did you pass? Almost. Did you get your trick? Almost." That’s the way the name came about, through all the excuses everyone always has. It’s the best working word ever. And then people think that it’s China wood we’re using, but it’s not. So we use it as a joke and say it’s Almost made in the U.S.A. It’s 100-percent maple, pressed in China. It’s like you buying me a Big Mac and having you deliver it to my house. Dude, this ain’t really McDonald’s, fool! It’s the same thing.

They may be made out of American wood. If they are, it's news to me. But I'm just saying that from personal experience with them, as well as 95% of other skaters' opinions, Dwindle boards are low quality. They don't last long, all the ones I've dealt with are flat, and they just feel brittle when you ride them.

I didnt read through all 7 pages of this to see if someone reviewed zero and just forgot to put it on but here ya go

Zero- Heavy Deck, good pop, moderate concave, very durable for street skating, as I have a tendency to break one every 4-5 months I keep trying out other boards, and none of them make me happy. (I highly recommend)

CITY- Light deck, weak pop, okay concave, its been 5 days and it hasnt broken on me yet, so thats a plus, I fear for my first handrail though as I am 95% sure the board will break. (low recommendation)

LIBTECH- once you lose your pop, the fun stops, stays good for 2 months, maybe. hard as heck to break, concave can be good, (med recommendations if you dont wanna break a board every couple months)

Someone mentioned that tails of some decks are broken easily which would give you less pop. That's the same feeling with using a element. Oh, my, I am trying to get anther deck. This thread is flawed considering most of those boards come fromt he same distributor, but the original poster is saying some suck and some dont.

Also this is just a post copied/pasted from someone at RampRage who didnt know what they are talking about, becuase they dont know how skate companies work.

Enjoi decks all come from the same place as World/Blind/Almost/Speed Demon/Darkstar and a lot of the time are even made with the same shape.

These guys have to produce boards for every single company they aren't going to open up seperate factories just becuase there is a different graphic on the bottom.

I usually buy Blind/World/Almost/Enjoi/Darkstar decks or Element decks.

Ok well I've got a question.

Which is a better board and why ( I wanna know for my next one..)

Zero

Mystery

AWS (Alien WorkShop)

Or if you hate everything there then just tell me some other boards that you think are awesome.. but i'd really like your opinion on those ^ ^

Also, I've never heard of stereo or krooked or null. Why not? Is it because its made in a different area? or because its old. Or maybe i haven't done any research.... But when i was first starting out i researched it and i never found it.

I love skating some of the lesser-known decks like The City and Volume Skateboards, they're both crazy good.

I love my City, but after two years of skating on it, it's getting replaced today, but man that was a great board. Had some insane pop at first, but it gradually started going away last year. The concave is just right for me too.

Sorry to bump an old topic.
But someone said that Zoo York boards were stiff.
I'm wondering.
Are they anything like A-Team boards?
Which were stiff and flat?
If not, are there any boards on the market that sort of fit that description?

Lol wow I am surprised how many people said "Almost suck" Hah thats :icon_bs:

Its the best deck I ever had, it was an Almost Resin. I stomp my tricks and do alot of transtion/quarteripe skating, and when I had my Almost I did alot of QP to flat tricks and it took a beating. It lasted like 6 months or even more perhaps I cannot remember how long. It kept its pop for the whole time. It actually ended up getting given away. Amazing boards, I cannot believe anyone could bad mouth them unless the other decks are not as good as the resins...

I have "heard" baker are strong decks, but I have never owned one so I don't know.

Actually an underrated deck is a birdhouse. Perfect shape for everything. They keep the pop, but end up losing the convace after so long. They are strong as long as you aren't a person who lands on the middle of the board regularly. I guess some people wouldn't ride them because it is a 'Birdhouse' and some people have something against them. Or think they are only for transtion. Hah, try one out! I have owned one before and one right now, I love them both.

Any recommendations for a beginner to start with? I want the best board with a relatively moderate budget. What should I save up for? xD

A blank.

Or the 'deck of the week'/'on sale' deck. You don't need anything to strat with really, this way you'll save money. When you can ride comfartably and do a few things, like ollie, shuvit and kickflip, perhaps buy a pro if you want. Then you can find the feel of board you like. I think its pointless buying a pro when you won't really know what feels/is good for YOU.

I'd say stick with the blanks till you can rip a little bit, then look for decks that feel good. Off the bat you won't know anyways.

Lol, we can say what we think is good or what is good for us. That may not/probably will not be right for you. Find what you like!

Sweet, I'll heed that bro.

I just got a second hand deck from my friend yesterday. Kind of rotten but can still pop. The grip tape is still intact and its not the worst deck I've seen. Haha. But I do not have trucks and bearings. Friend gave me his second hand blank red and orange wheels too. Waiting for my other friend who is asking his brother to give me his trucks and I'm just going to get new bearings.

Way to go!

PSH SCREW OFF TO WHOEVER WROTE THAT REVIEW. They just bashed Element decks entirely, they definitely have pop, and..when the heck did they have weird shapes?......just because an Element deck didn't feel right for whoever wrote that review, doesn't mean that it won't feel right for you. I bet he/she's just one of those stupidarse people who just bash on them because other people are since apparently they got sold out and are a "POSER" brand. Screw off if you keep thinking that, you're just a loser if you say that but you haven't skated one or gave them a second try (and if you have, you fully know the Element deck had good pop!). And yes, I had an Element deck, but I broke it when I got fustrated one day...

I love my Flip deck.

Why does it seem like you made Girl/Chocolate decks sound so bad.. lol guys, they are wonderful decks and I highly recommend them, good pop and concave.

I don't think there's a Zero on there but I got a new Zero deck a little while ago and it seems pretty good so far, I haven't been able to skate it much because when I got it, I was really busy with some school and cruise stuff (I only JUST came back a couple days ago, so I haven't skated it since before vacation yet). Good pop and concave, haha and obviously it hasn't snapped yet.

EDIT: To the dude above me: GET A GIRL OR CHOCOLATE (they're made by the same distributor company)

I think skateboards are personal items. I recon that the board you ride represents who you are. it does not matter what others say and all these "guides" to the best board.

You should choose the brand that you think represent you the best. and regarding how the board handles i also think its all up to the skater. a guy or girl who sucks big time wont nail tricks over night after getting a real or pop war deck.

By a deck that represents you people! that’s my device!
But don’t forget that some brands really are lesser than others.

Your right in a way but people just want to know what is good in other peoples experience to help them choose which deck to get and help them make a good choice.

A lot of it is just personal as you say but it is helpfull to get advice off others
