View Full Version : Skating switch
Anonymous Man 10-06-2008, 02:40 AM My friend had told me I should start practicing switch in between practicing tricks.
Does anyone have any tips for skating switch because its almost impossible for me.
I skate Goofy also.
Practice, Practice and Practice some more.
Anonymous Man 10-06-2008, 02:48 AM I keep up the practicing but its so hard for me to keep my balance. Even when I lean over a little, I start to fall off my board.
Pathtek4 10-06-2008, 12:01 PM Learn to balance riding Fakie first (Feet in position that you would ride forward). As it starts to feel better to you, just inch up the board till your in a ''switch'' stance and the motion, while different, won't feel as foreign to you as you learn the basics switch stance
hokus pokus 10-06-2008, 12:32 PM practice...
i used to commit myself to skate my opposite stance for weeks at a time, to get me comfortable with balance and popping tricks.
BigDogSkater 10-06-2008, 12:33 PM i tried switch yesterday in a game of skate. my friend wanted to see if i could ride it. I rode it but ten fell and jabbed a rock into my hand! OW
Snowjoe 10-06-2008, 02:46 PM You gotta go right back to the basics. The problem alot of people find is that they want to be able to do it just as well as they can normally, instantly, which is totally unrealistic. You cant just jump on the board and do a switch kickflip, you gotta learn how to ride it switch first.
You need the 3 "p's"......
Patience,
Practise,
But most of all Peanut Butter Sandwiches, because everyone knows they're awesome, and if you eat them you will be too.
fallenNJzero 10-06-2008, 02:47 PM practice all the time. going to the stores, friends house, school whatever, ride switch. you have no idea how much it helps
ISkateZero 10-06-2008, 02:54 PM Yep, practice. Just act like your learning to skate again.
Anonymous Man 10-06-2008, 04:05 PM Thanks for the help everyone. I'll start to practice alot more and ride switch when I'm getting from place to place.
j rizzle 10-06-2008, 09:09 PM just start off slow and you will gain balance as you go faster
This helped me alot.
Practice riding switch, and keeping your balance on one foot(front foot)
this helped me alot with the balance issues.

I'll try that too. Seems like it would make it harder though. I'll still give it a shot.
I've been practicing guys and I'm getting closer to getting better.
Kickerflip55 10-13-2008, 06:07 AM I hated learning switch, its so frustrating because you know what to do but your feet just won't do it but you have to go back to your beginner days, where you couldnt ollie or do anything and just keep practicing and don't lose hope because it is so worth it in the end. Nothing beats doing a trick and having somebody say "OMG was that switch!?!?!!?"
R Heng 10-13-2008, 11:37 AM For me it was like almost learning to ride a board all over again, getting used to pushing and turning etc.
Eggums845 10-13-2008, 01:05 PM Switch is hard as hell man.
I don't even bother with it yet, except for when my friend and I are playing Switch only s.k.a.t.e
try doing fakie for a while, and then just casually ease your way into switch, that's what I did.
SkateBoard_Dee 10-13-2008, 02:15 PM im goofy to and i can somewhat ride switch. i say about 25% of the time but if i was to like go down a hill or something i would bail or kill myself lol it is hard
LandBolts 10-13-2008, 10:30 PM i can do fs and bs switch shuvs lol
just practice alot!
thats all there is to it, its like learning how to skate all over again.
at least thats the way i see it.
EricsASkater 10-13-2008, 10:55 PM If you're going to skate at a friends house or something, skating switch there. Or keep practicing on your driveway or street. Once you've done that, your feet will get used to moving like it, and they will cooperate more.
consilience 10-18-2008, 10:22 PM u dont even have thrown down for hrs of sessions to 'learn switch'
like ur friend said, practice riding switch in-between ur other tricks and in a month u'll be amazed at how more natural it feels
colorado 10-27-2008, 11:29 PM Switch doesn't have to be as hard as everyone makes it sound. Of course it will feel awkward to you at first, but you already know how to do everything becuase you've learned it once before. Switch came pretty naturally to me so I can't give you any advice through your point of view, but just like everyone said just practice just like you learn everything else just like you always have.
Ghettoh 11-03-2008, 08:58 PM just like everyone said,
you have to start back at square one....
learn to ride, then to ollie, then to more advanced stuff.
dollarpwncenter 11-10-2008, 12:37 PM Yeah, I have a hard time too, I just try to skate switch while going places to get my balance down
Brokenbones 11-10-2008, 12:56 PM You just have to get used to riding it switch,im always screwing around in switch and it's not that bad once you get used to it,just practice.
Max Kulish. 11-10-2008, 01:57 PM practice riding, push mongo, its easier.
