hey guys I started inline skating in 2004 back in miami, FL.. I then moved to NH and skated in the rye airfield skatepark for about 8 months until I finally moved here in Monroe, NC about 13 months ago - since then I have skated only twice - once in woodward skatepark in atlanta, GA and once in NoName skatepark..

anyways..since the closest vert ramp around here is 2hrs away and it doesn't even have the professional measurements of 11 1/2 of transition and 2ft of vert I decided to build my own ramp.. I started building the footers a month ago [which is the hardest part and most time consuming] so here are some pics..

if you're an inline skater or skateboarder and want to help lifting up some wood.. and have a nice workout building the ramp with me i'll let you skate for free.. i'm just looking for a few guys who can help me lift up the 8ft decks once I finish them.. the ramp is going to be 40ft wide so there's plenty of room to train at a professional level and maybe become pro and compete..

that's pretty bad-ass! You seem like a really cool guy, not charging people, just asking for help as you build a HUGE ramp that has to cost upwards of $30,000 or so. I'm not in the area so I can't help, I just want you to know that I think that's cool that you're opening it up to people who help whether they're inline or skateboarders.

riot

yeah its insane how expensive all the materials are.. just 36 sheets of skatelite come out to be $11k and the pressure treated lumber like $14k.. im still debating if I should build half now or like 24ft wide and the other half later when I get more money but yeah its gonna be a huge ramp once its complete.. I have a few real good friends who skateboard and are pro so if we share the same passion why not skate together..

MattxLustt

You could charge people for that and get your money back, and then actually make money. Haha.
Then you could make your own little personal skatepark, and start banking. =D

How far is Monroe from Fayetteville? I'd be more than happy to come help.

basically when i finish those sections this is how is going to look

then I will layer everything twice with plywood and then with skatelite..

I know I'm late to the game, but I'd be totally willing to help out any way I can and would love to skate that thing sometime. I am heading to northern California for a skate-cation this weekend, but will be back next week and willing to work. Will hit you with a pm with my e-mail address.

there is a skatepark about 2hrs from here called (noname skatepark) and they have a vert ramp but the transition is smaller and the ramp is indoors so its full of dust and its slippery..

I basically made my own plans on google scretchup software which is like autocad..and started building the framing of my ramp all by myself outside all with treated wood.. yours look like metal framing.. pretty plans and instructions but get the right measurement or at least 13ft

the vert roll-in is not going to be a roll-in anymore since you need more space in the back so im going to setup a 4ft drop-in like in the sketch..

Dude do NOT let people skate it without having them sign a waver, or their parents. Have an opening day and have people sign the waiver for it so you don't get sued. Make sure you are watching whomever skates it and build a big fence.

Why exactly is there a 3 inch gap between the wood and the coping? Is it intentional, or just unlucky?

if I was you nowayza.. I would build the vert 13.5ft high.. which is 11.5ft radius + 2ft vert..and 14ft flat bottom.. those measurements are what xgames ramps use now days.. the plants that you have on your site are plans from the 1990's totally outdated.. I basically made my own plans on google scretchup software which is like autocad..and started building the framing of my ramp all by myself outside all with treated wood.. yours look like metal framing.. pretty plans and instructions but get the right measurement or at least 13ft

thanks for your input... and we have been consulting the internet community and ramp building companies about the best size of the ramp, and we came to a conclusion that our current 12.3ft high design will do fine (10.5ft raduis + 1.8ft vert). we have a vert ramp in Durban that is very similar in size and a very good ramp to skate... picture of the wavehouse vert ramp (think designed by tony hawk):
Can't post links yet :( but check out the "Wavehouse - old" gallery under "Skateparks" on vert[dot]co[dot]za.

Yes, the ramp is built from steel. we have already started with the "pilot" and hope to be finsihed soon. this wil allow us to check the measurements and if our plans works according to plan. I will post update on vert[dot]co[dot]za as we progress. We have a new version of the plans and will upload to our site when it's ready ...

o, and can you please confrim your flatbottom length of 14ft... We have it as +-15.4ft which is derived from tranny radius*1.5

Thanks

the transition of the ramp is the most tricky part of the whole project and you should be 110% careful about it.. my friend Chris from Palm Beach made his ramp twice and a guy from TeamPain xgames made the templates of the transition for him and he gave me a copy of them.. and yes you use 2x6x14 studs for the flat bottom.. you can see it on the previous pictures. if you wanna use different measurements for your project then I wish you the best of luck.

This is the first day I have logged into the site in quite some time. I am happy this is the thread I was greeted with. However it does set the expectation bar a little high.

I am also curious about the total project cost. Whatever it was, I know it was well worth it. I have always wanted to build a mini-ramp; but I have hesitated because I still live at home. I know I will build one once I move out though.

Congratulations on the awesome vert ramp, and I am sure the pleasure of building it was a great lifetime experience as well.

This ramp is a bust... Myself and a few other skateboarders spent a fair amount of time helping Riots (a rollerblader) put the final layers on this ramp and were invited to skate it about 4 times. Shortly after that, he decided not to allow skateboarders on the ramp anymore. The ramp is HUGE and is a little big for even seasoned vert skaters... the transitions are about 11 and a half feet and there are 2 feet of vert. I learned a lot about building ramps, so it wasn't a total loss for me.
