I'll create this thread for everyone in the community to post their own musical/lyrical recordings. You can post anything you've either created or covered (either by yourself, or with your band).

http://www.fileupyours.com/files/5153/Trooper3finger.wma <- That's The Trooper by Iron Maiden, I used the 3 finger gallop style that Steve Harris uses as well, it's a work in the makings.

That was nice!!! I dont know how to record my songs
P.S-Work on your timeing a bit

Tom
10-30-2005, 01:53 PM
Yeah, I'm still having trouble with the 3 finger gallop, so that's why the timing's off at a few places.
As for recording, you can just buy a cheap mic. from your local electronics store, and then download Sony Acid Pro. I believe you can also record with Winamp, not too sure though. Goldwave should have a recording function too >_>

It sounds good man, just work on the 3-finger thing. I remember when I first started doing it, I had these huge blisters on my right hand ring and pinky fingers, and I popped them all over a $600 Geddy Lee Jazz bass in a music store by accident. Heh...
I'll try to get a clip of me on here, but all I have is a broken in half mic and Windows sound recorder. Oh well.

Oh yeah dude, I forgot you play bass...

Anyways, maybe you should get a drum track (prerecorded) put over it, just to sound a little more together. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Ok, here is a recording I did with my friends band; it's a cover of Fear Factory's Self Bias Resistor:

http://www.fileupyours.com/files/5499/Powerball%20%20Self%20Bias%20Resistor.mp3

Recorded it on my ESP SC-600 through an ENGL Powerball. Check it out, y'all!

Ripptyde, that was very cool. I had my speakers turned up pretty loud and the bass/drums were knocking stuff off my shelves >_< Good stuff, great cover.
DVS, I'll take a look at your bro's stuff later. I barely got a chance to listen to Rippty's stuff.

Lol, thanks dude. I had a similar experience in the studio, cause when that suckers gain gets cranked, stuff comes flyin.

Here's another little thing I dug up, which is a little inspiration recording I wrote with my friend:
http://www.fileupyours.com/files/5499/andrew%20riff.mp3

This was recorded with a modded Mesa Boogie Dual Rec and my ESP SC-600, again. Enjoy!

Ripptyde, your stuff is sick. It is so heavy and good and whatnot. And DVSkater's brother is... wow... I love it. I didn't expect to see such talent on here, to be honest. I'll put something up Sunday night. I guess I'll play a Bach piece I know and some slap stuff. I hope you guys don't mind it sounding like garbage... partly because I am terrible, and partly because it'll be through my brother's tiny guitar amp and with a microphone that's snapped in half...

Here's another clip I just recorded recently. Watch out though, the tone is pretty brutal:

http://www.fileupyours.com/files/5499/andrew%20riff%202.mp3

This time, I used a combo of the ENGL Powerball and Savage, with my Ibanez RG7420. Enjoy!

I dont mean to moan or anything but...I dont believe that is you ripptyde. Sorry if it really is you, if it is you turely are a ripper! But I doubt that it is. I dont see how a 14 year old could play that good. Just the fact that you seem to be able to play that smoothly and involve pinch harmonic on key notes seems to address to me......seasoned pro guitarist. Sorry.

Ahem...

I've been playing 5 years, dude. Not to mention I co-wrote these riffs with my friend, who has played way longer and can play much better than I could.
But, you could probably learn there riffs, too. Just learn your chops, man! With more than 5 years of practice, plus receiving training from a seasoned pro, your chops would develop quite nicely. As for smoothness, most of this stuff was done using a metronome, or the recorded drum track.

:icon_wink Heh, sorry dude, but I ain't bullsh*ttin' you.

Sorry dude, but theres no way someone thats only been playing for 5 years can play that good. The music you posted was too complicated. The bends in it were perfect, and you got so many pinch harmonics in the right places. And the ending, it was so fast, I dont know if it was fret tapping or just normal playing, either way...it cant be you. The only way youl convince me is by showing me a video of you doing it. I know people that have been playing for ten years and theyre not that good.

I'm not trying to bash you at all Ripptyde, your stuff is sick, but I think it's pretty believable that it's him man... I mean I've heard (a very very few) guys who have been playing for that amount of time do stuff like that. Well, the only person I can think of is my friend Blaize, he has been playing about 5 years, but all he plays is blues. He can do some pretty insane solos. If I were you Ripptyde, I'd consider it a compliment that he doesn't think it's you. It really is incredible.

Ripptyde
11-18-2005, 11:35 PM
Thanks bro.

And you know what, I don't really care if he doesn't believe me. I definately know that's me playing, and just cause he doubts that...whatever dude, I don't care. It ain't gonna help me to sweat over something someone said on the friggin' internet.
So jward, bro, believe whatever you wanna, I don't care.

But I notice you talk a lot about the pinch harmonics in the second clip. For me, pinch harmonics are really defined and clear when im using my Mesa/Boogie. It all depends on the amp and how powerful its gain is. I find that I can do a very defined harmonic on the 3 string, just below the bridge pickup. Try it man, though it takes practice to nail it every time.

I can't really say I know much about pinch harmonics on guitar... they are fun on bass though! And really easy to get out, in my opinion.

My song... (www.freewebs.com/higherclass/tap.wav)

These were both first takes... both have mistakes in them and are pretty sloppy. The song I wrote is done with left and right hand tapping, and is incomplete. I played it wrong too. You can hear me totally mess up and start the measure over again at one part. =/

My newest bands songs.
Midnight Fog so far the band is only 3 people
Nikki- Drums, Amy- Keyboards and female vocals, and me on guitar, bass, and male vocals.
We're a gothic type metal band, most of our songs aren't in english but they sound good.
This Lustful Night(unmasted) (http://media.putfile.com/This-lustfull-night)
Ancient Questions (http://media.putfile.com/Unknown-88-45)
The band is mostly influenced by Cradle of Filth and Ancient.

My band Midnight Fog has new songs after our first and last rehersal of 2006 2 weeks ago. I must give fair warning if you don't like bands like Ancient or Cradle of Filth then the chance of you liking my band is down to 5%, and that 5% is maybe you like the music or female vocals. (also see the post above I made)

Eternal Agonia (http://media.putfile.com/Midnight-Frost--Eternal-Agonia) Brand new song the only one listed here with vocals in it worth listening too at least half way in it.

Flower of Death (http://media.putfile.com/Midnight-Frost--Flower-of-death) really the old song Ancient Questions just without vocals, better guitar sound and keyboards

Cerastes of Tears (http://media.putfile.com/Midnight-Frost--Cerastes-of-tears) This song sounds a little bit creepy to me somehow.

Dang, they both sounded really good man. Angel of Death was especially impressive; that's a hard song to play. Too bad Youtube is so crappy, it looked like you were playing it on one string, hahaha. Don't worry, I believe you really played it; youtube isn't too good at playing fast motion stuff. I watched a video of a guy playing bass and it looked like his right hand was staying still.

You'll probably be surprised to hear that I ran my bass straight into my brother's 15 watt guitar amp to record these. =P

I guess I know how to set up an amp, but I really have to give the credit to the bass I'm using. It's a Schecter Stiletto Custom, and it has the best tone I've found for under $1000. I mean each stroke is exactly in the middle, normally each hit on the snare produces a slightly different sound, which is pretty minute, but when you hear the drums being played exactly the same it does sound pretty obvious. But heck, if thats what your drummer can do... wow! Awesome!

Here we go again, Im restarting my first band Suicide Attempt (death metal mostly) http://www.myspace.com/suicideattempt

Those are our newer songs, Open Your Grave (The Coffin Opens) and Mutilate the Dead were recorded a few weeks before we broke up with our session drummer David Decapitated. I Hate You, Untitled, and Kill! were recorded in 2006. As a band we only had 2 live shows in Cedar Falls.

Band line up
Shawn Suicide (me)- Bass and growls
Dani Disembowelment- Lead guitar and screams
AK-ANGER- Rhythm guitar and clean vocals
Will Rot- Drums

Our Death recorded in 2004 (http://media.putfile.com/Our-Death)
Witches and Demons recorded in 2004 (http://media.putfile.com/Witches-and-Demons)
Suicide! recorded in 2006(with Amy Vargablod on keyboards) (http://media.putfile.com/Meat-Eater)
I joined Amy's band Midnight Fog after we recorded this song cause I liked the ideas for songs she had in mind.
The Mung (http://media.putfile.com/The-Mung)
The Mung is the only grindcore song we recored.

Ive been recording new songs on my own in hopes of rebuilding the band back up.
So enjoy!

I used to take my music seriously... makin' beats, recording, and rapping and all. Then I just dropped it for a few years for other priorities. So me and a friend were thinking about how some of the dumbest songs are out now and the stupidest videos end up on TV and me being bored as all hell... I decided why not make the dumbest rap song ever. I wanted to see if it would even get popular just being stupid.. but I think it's just being stupid instead of getting popular, LOL. Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think...

Midnight Fog has a new song, for some reason the link in my sig doesn't work but the url is

http://www.myspace.com/midnightfrost

The new song is called The Path of the Sintar (http://media.putfile.com/The-Path-of-the-Sintar) Our drummer is doing the female vocals since Amy went to Sweden before we finished the song so she could do female vocals.

For those that liked the old songs (from the battle of the bands) I do my growls a little bit in the song and the bass is loud in this song cause it carries the rhythm part mostly in the song.

I haven't recorded/finished writing the demo that I'm working on for my semi-solo project (I'm doing all of the songwriting and three of the instruments right now), Manifest Oblivion. I have a couple in-progress tracks from May recorded directly from Guitar Pro playback on the Manifest Oblivion MySpace that I've set as my home page. Recording begins some time in late July or early August.

ah alright I just clicked it and didn't pay attention, must have been in a rush or something. The song isn't even playing on the page anyway for some reason. I added a new song on Suicide Attempt and it plays fine.

My old Death-metal band "Demonfacture"
We have several new songs up. (http://www.myspace.com/deathhop)

Judging by the default tracks, I have some construcive criticism;
1. The vocal track is mixed too loud. It should be in the foreground, but nowhere near drowning out the instruments/drums like this recording is.
2. Move back from the microphone. The sound is distorted from overloading the microphone's transformer.

3. Buy a new microphone or use what your bandmates are using to record the guitars/drums (they sound much better). You can get a Nady Starpower SP-4C, which is a basic dynamic microphone, for <$10 dollars. I recorded my screaming tutorial (here (http://rapidshare.com/files/38352843/screaming.mp3), recorded if for a member on Skateboard-City - listen to the end for DM growling advice) with it; somewhat air-sensitive, but using a pop filter and keeping the microphone about 1-1.5 feet away helps.

4. The vocal rhythms are too simplistic/repetitive, and don't fit with the instruments at all. Your rapping, especially, needs more dynamic rhythms and matching instruments.

5. Let another band member write the lyrics.

6. Your screams, and some of the growling keeps breaking. Screams are supposed to have a consistent vibration in the vocal cords, and when that fails, the scream degenerates into a forced pseudo-whisper.

7. The mixing is so different between transitions that it sounds like you edited together clips of different death metal songs, which would explain the massive gap between the instrumental and vocal quality. Don't do that.

Well a 3 minute song I did that sounds like Xasthur minus the death metal growls. I have everything he does (minus the time he puts into the music and lyrics). I didn't do the best I could on the vocals it was a testing stage of my raw black metal vocals.

The guitars were recorded first take, no re-recordings so theres screw ups, the lyrics were off the top of my head so any retakes on the vocals are impossible since I remember nothing of the lyrics and I can't even understand myself its that horse sounding.

This did not hurt my throat but Im sure it hurts your ears like Xasthur would

about 6 months old, but I didn't realize this thread exsisted....enjoy, it's me playing the Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess Main Theme on piano. My favorite part starts at 0:50 :)

I love this piece, cause it has so many emotions. Sad and reflective at first, then all of a sudden it seems frantic in the middle, and at the end triumphant.

A little thing I came up with yesterday. Needs work. Recorded in the most primitive way imaginible: mic input of laptop, old minidisc mic, audacity, acoustic guitar and many many tracks (can't hear 'em all, but it does make for the wall of sound, I guess..)

missing_no, that really really rocks. It freaks me out how amazing some of the old nes and snes tunes are - all blips and bleeps but damn good melodies that stick in your head!

FMG, I'm guessing you're playing bass - how come the backing track is on the left channel and you are on the right? Lower the gain on your bass, mix the channels and it'll sound pretty solid!

I'll listen to more later. We should get people commenting as well as just posting - it's no fun when nobody talks about your music, after all..
