Default I watched something about time travel.

    On Discovery channel.

They say If you go faster than the speed of light we would be able to go into the future. It also said there are these particles in space that are time traveling all the time, because they are going faster than the speed of light. I don't know. Morgan Freeman made it sound reasonable. But I dont know.

    Discuss?
Above the lakes, above the vales,
The mountains and the woods, the clouds, the seas,
Beyond the sun, beyond the ether,
Beyond the confines of the starry spheres,
My soul, you move with ease

lol, of course morgan freeman made it sounds fact. travelling at faster than the speed of light sounds more like teleportation than time travel.

everyone knows you have to hit 88mph and use 1.21 gigawatts worth of power if you want to time travel.

Its possible with particles i think, crazy world science. But id imagine any physical material (metal for a ship) would disintagrate or fall apart.

Its worth noting the speed of light still isnt instantanious, somebody 100meters away would be something like 1billionth of a micro second in the future when you look at them

ya and most the stars you see in space are gone but you still see them because of the light still traveling. kinda like time travel i guess.

yea in science it said that how some stars appear is how they appeared 2 million years ago because thats how long it took for the light to reach our eyes

It can be done in theory, but you'd need to be able to collect some exotic matter or some ****; which hasn't even been proved to exist. But if you can harness that then it could be possible in theory.

If you were to travel at the speed of light, you aren't necessarily traveling into the future. If you were to travel out and around in space at the speed of light for 10 Earth years, it would only be about 7 to 9 years to you. That could be considered time travel.

Traveling back to the dinosaurs is impossible.

when talking about time travel, saying anything is possible or impossible is ridiculous, we have no idea. how would anyone know that if time travel is possible, that we couldnt go back or forward as far as we want. why would dinos be out of the question? and until it has actually been done. we wont know that its is possible. spew out as many theories as you want, but it COULD end up a wild goose chase. maybe not

one of the big theories is that the future has already happened, its been set out.

what happens when you hit the speed of light? everything would either go black or freeze frame in the last monent in time, will everything become fuzzy the closer you get to the speed?

i think if you go over the speed of light, you pretty much disintegrate.

my head is spinning thinking about it all, i mean its the big unanswered question but... light is all around us! i'm looking around my living room in awe like i'm high or something

we will learn to time travel, in one way or another, well after our generation is dead and buried. It's a shame we'll miss it, really.

Also, once time travel is a realistic and practical possibility, does the concept of time as we know it cease to exist?

naaaaaaah, world will be a burning rock in about the 1/8th of the time it would take us to possibly work it out.

maybe time travel to us just now, is the same as the world being flat 500 years ago, the same as the earth revolving around the sun.

would travelling faster than the speed of light take you into the future, or just arrive quicker? i cant think my brain has broke :/

Time doesn't exist. It's a relative notion that we base on the rotation of the earth and it's revolutions around the sun. When we send spaceships into space, the main base has it's own clock and the shuttle has it's own clock. Since the space ship is going at such high speeds, time "slows" for them.

The issue with traveling at the speed of light is that our mass becomes infinity or some ridiculous number, and that wouldn't be very savory for our squishy bodies. Faster than light speed travel is something that goes against the most accepted theory at the moment. All types of things can be spun into theory, however. Theories can only be proven false, not true.

Wasn't there a theory that if you traveled fast enough around the earth you could go back in time? Could be the same thing you're talking about, haha.

that would never ever work, silly biscuit head! but, you could speed into outer space and look back at the earth with a high powered telescope at the past, even to when earth began! its so interesting because its so so simple in theory, must be so frustrating for scientists.

To be able to see the earth in the past wouldn't be possible. Unless you go faster than the speed of light, which is pretty much impossible (you need an infinite amount of energy and light [photons] have very little mass so it doesn't need energy to reach the speed of light).
If you do go in a spaceship and go super fast, all you do is just slow down time (relative to the time of the earth), and that's about it. Like if you leave the earth on a spaceship in the year 2000, you won't be able to see anything before 2000. But if you come back at 10:00pm on earth, your clock may read 8:00pm or whatever to you on your ship.
