There has been a lot of ska talk on here lately and thats a great thing.

I think Ska deserves it's own thread.
Discuss ska-core, ska, skate punk, whatever.
God yes, Mighty Mighty Bosstones are ftw.
Streetlight Manifesto is godly.

Can anyone reccomend me some Ska bands?
I'm in a ska band... just played our first show two nights ago. It went OK. We went on first, so I just drank for free the rest of the night. I don't really listen to ska, but it's fun to play. >.>
Any fool can make a rule and any fool will mind it.
Definitely. A mod should rename the thread.
NoSwitch for prez.
Sounds like a sick time, regardless of the show just being ok you got to sip for free. I wouldnt expect anything less from a guy with such Higher-Class <3
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Since this thread died I'll try to post one video of a ska band in here a day or something, and put a little comment of mine underneath. I could list a bunch of bands and toss up a ton of videos... but I'm lazy. Bringing this thread back!
Started listening to this band a few years ago, it was a nice change from the overly nasal sounding vocals of a lot of US (third wave) ska bands.

Ew, Sublime. I'll have to scour the internet for some good stuff later to make up for that..
Double post! This song is from 1995..
Found this band a few years ago on itunes... they're good at suggesting stuff, on there.
This was off their first album, which I thought was their best, granted I've only heard their first, second and fifth album. By the fifth album they were pretty poppy, and were just pretty much a different band, not sure why I prefer the monosyllabic singing to the later stuff...
Edit: This is off of Mighty, 2003
friday was pizza day, the best day of the week
any relationship that matters - a friendship, a family, a romance, a band - anything - is a perilous and fragile thing because along with all the amazing experiences and creations that can come from something so intimate and exhausting comes the possibility for things to crumble and shatter or whither and die. when that happens, it's easy to forget what was precious amidst all the disaster. we should always carry our history with us but never let it bury us.
also "sublime" with rome was never sublime after brad died, he was the soul and core of sublime

My Favorite Ska Bands:
Used to work with a couple of these guys in Huntington. Cary Brown, a former keyboard player, has been in several projects with my brother in law. They attended Berkley together.
Dig these folks too..
Favorite all around Ska mix CD

i don't really like rome.. don't know why, maybe it's because he's kind of in a spot that he can never live up to really

If you were in his place, you would have taken his position.
Almost everyone would have.
