Raiding this thread for some bands to look up. I've been all over Madness lately and I'm listening to the Scofflaws, right now.

This thread is giving me plenty of new bands that I haven't listened to yet. My GCSE composition for school is going to be a ska piece, or at least with ska elements, so I need to listen to a wider range of stuff. Thanks guys

Not the usual Madness wackiness, but still so awesome. One of my favorite bands, now.

Went to the Streetlight show in Buffalo this past Thursday. We broke the venue. Literally caved in the floor. On the first note of the first song. There was a giant crater in the floor and turns out the crowd broke 7 beams holding the building up. Right when the first song ended some dude ran up and was saying that we needed to be calm for a bit because something just happened, so they started playing a slow acoustic song, and the dude came back out and said everybody needed to calmly leave because the floor was broken. We were all skanking and singing outside the venue until the band came out. They went on to tell us they would come back up to Buffalo at the end of the tour to give us the show we deserved. Craziest show ever haha. Pretty wild to be able to say we literally broke a venue.

Us Rudies gotta do what we can to wreak havoc I suppose haha. Shows rescheduled for November 12 at a different venue, claim it has no basement so we cant break through it, but nothings impossible...

    Mephiskaphales is fucking cool.

I read about a group years ago called Skatley Crew that did Ska covers of Motley Crue songs yet I can't find any youtube videos of them. Have you any links?

really fast, upbeat music with clean electric guitar, sometimes trumpets, a sick bass line, and insane drums

Yeah I usually say something along the lines of reggae mixed with punk/rock. Kind of like a sublime sound but more intense. Its just somewhat difficult to describe to people. Nobody understands what I mean haha.

It came before reggae, and punk (not jazz though), so it's kind of hard to explain. There's generally a guitar upstroke... some horns...

I never really listened to Fishbone, which is weird considering all the other bands I listen to. Going to look into some more by them!

It's kind of hard to call Fishbone just Ska though because its almost like Musical ADD. I also joke that Fishbone is one of those bands that there are more black people on stage than in the audience.

Here's a great cover they did for a Sublime tribute album:

A couple of interesting facts about that line up of Fishbone. John Bingham the left handed guitarist was a percussionist for Miles Davis and the guitarist with the big afro is Rocky George the guitarist from Suicidal Tendencies.
