    Default Skateboarding & Road Traffic Code

    Hi Folks.

    After just about getting run over today by a car while I was (legally!) crossing the road, I did a bit of a search on what the law is regarding skateboarding on/near roads. This is for WA but the Road Traffic Code laws are almost identical between states.

    Skateboards, longboards and scooters are called wheeled recreational devices in the RTC. Wheeled recreational device riders are also pedestrians As pedestrians, cars have to GIVE WAY at crossings.

    The laws are different between each state but they've put a lot of effort into making them similar lately so I think what I've found would probably apply all over Aus.

    But yeah, a divider line on the road or one with more than one lane means no skating.

    Skating should be legal everywhere and every way bike riding is.

    Yeah, that's what it says right next to the 50km rule:

    "A person shall not travel in or on a wheeled recreational device , motorised scooter or wheeled toy

    (a) on a carriageway with a dividing line or median strip;
    "
