Default is 19 too old to start?

i've been into longboarding for about a year now. (tech sliding and downhill. not just riding around)

but recently i've been wanting to get into regular skateboarding. i'm going to my local shop to get a deck from there today. but is 19 a little too old to learn? i always regretted not getting into it when i was younger.

    and his 2 year progression

"I started skateboarding at age 35 and been at it 1-2hrs a day 7 days a week all year round. I learn slow and small because my body is old. I like to film and just can't watch anymore so I picked up the board 2 years ago. Many cracked ribs, hands, fingers, wrists, ankles, toes and many other bones later, I'm still on the board."

No way you're too old to start skating dude.

    youtube.com/grimcity (a skater well into his 30's)

Your never too old to skate. Tony Hawk, who skated vert (MUCH harder on the joints), skated well into his 30's and even 40's. I don't even think Mullen officially retired yet.

Some people are starting in their 30s. At 19 you should be the cream of the crop in fittness so yeah not old at all.

Never too old to start, and with all that tech sliding and DH you do, you probably already know your way around a board very well. All you'll need is to get the basics down and stuff will fall into place.

It's all about the love for it. Since you probably already love to longboard, regular skating is right up your alley and I'm sure you'll love it no matter if you suck or turn out to be really good.

I hadn't been into skating heavily since the late 80's. I started again late in 2010 when I was 34. Considering how much skateboarding had changed since then I might as well have been starting again from scratch. Mind you my body still kinda looks, moves and acts like it's 22......... Until I smash one of my knees or a hip. Then we're in old man town.

Skateboarding is something that appeals to certain people of all years and age just seems to just be a random factor when it decides to call you up.

    19. I lol'd.

Here some perspective; I was out of skateboarding longer than you've been alive. I think most of the posts above me pretty much answer your ultimate question.

I'm 26 and I started skating about a month ago. There is one thing that all the slams I suffered thought me. I no longer have the same body that I had when I was 18-20. Somehow, injuries hurt more and take more to heal properly.

So no. You're not too old to start skating.

I'm the grimcity guy mentioned earlier in this thread... turn 37 this month. It's the only thing that keeps me from becoming old. Get your skate on, man.

I can relate to Number6 on the skating-longer-than-some-have-lived aspect, too. I was on board in 1985, and can't imagine doing anything else with the time I spend skating. From a mission to a cruise, just gotta do it.
