*technically no longer classified as vegetative

a little misleading, absolutely astonishing regardless of this though.

Any and all conventional tests would still classify him as "vegetative". Think of how many other seemingly comatose folks there are globally that might be able to actually communicate like that.. I'm not entirely convinced that he's thinking of tennis or anything else predictable. Pretty color flashes on their screen might not mean anything at all..

Yes but now he may be classified as no longer vegetative

A better headline would read something like :

"Man thought to be vegetative tells doctors "I'm not in pain" via MRI machines

I'm not arguing with the point, I'm just being overly picky as I have been trained to do so over the years of a little too much hard science :P

As I said, this is a total game changer of an idea if it gains momentum/further credibility. I really hope it does, though it will really complicate the end-life laws I would imagine.

Note to self. Invest in medical device manufacturers. Sudden spike in life support systems. 20 years out bodies on boards will be rolling all around shopping malls with blinking lights on them to communicate..
